The Laica filter kettle is an appliance for filtering drinking water. The kettle uses a cartridge to filter mains drinking water to improve its taste by removing some unwanted substances that it may contain. All Laica filter cartridges are made in Italy and are always sterilised. Laica filter cartridges consist of silver-coated activated carbon of vegetable origin, and ion exchange resins. Activated carbon is generally effective in reducing chlorine and its derivatives. Ion exchange resins are generally effective in reducing heavy metals in mains water. To ensure that you are properly informed, ask your mains water supplier for more information, or test the water coming out of your home tap prior to use.

CAUTION : Only use the filter cartridge with DRINKING WATER that is microbiologically safe (check with the relevant local authority).

  • DO NOT use the appliance for any purpose other than boiling drinking water. Other liquids can contaminate the inside of the kettle.
  • DO NOT fill the kettle when the power base is already connected to the power socket.

To ensure that the appliance does not start heating when it is dry, wait a few minutes before pressing the button to let the filtered water fill the bottom of the kettle up to the minimum (MIN} level. The kettle has an internal safety cut-out that turns it off if there is not enough water when it is switched on. In this case, disconnect the plug from the power socket and let the appliance cool down.
  1. Place the power base of the kettle on a flat, dry, heat-resistant surface.

  2.  Open the kettle by removing the lid and fill it with water up to the maximum level (“MAX” mark on the tank). Caution! To avoid damaging the heating element, there must be no less than 0.5 litres of filtered water, and it must not exceed the total capacity of 1.5 liters to prevent hot water spilling out during boiling.

  3. Close the lid.

  4. Place the kettle on the base and make sure that it is attached securely.

  5. Connect the power base plug to the power socket; the appliance will beep and “—” will flash on the display. The appliance will turn off automatically if no button is pressed within 30 seconds.

Turning the dial sets the heating temperature from 38°C to 100°C (100° F – 212° F). The appliance beeps twice after a few seconds to indicate that the heating cycle has started. During this process, the display will show the actual water temperature. When the water reaches the temperature selected previously, the appliance

    • will beep 3 times and the kettle will turn off. The display will show the actual water temperature for about 5 minutes before turning off. To switch the kettle off at any time, press the button.

    • To switch off the kettle before the boiling cycle has finished, press the button.

    • To ensure that the kettle works efficiently, it is advisable to filter no more than 5 liters per day (taking care to wait a few minutes between one filtration cycle and the next). Replace the filter cartridge every 150 litres/30 days of filtration (this will ensure maximum appliance efficiency and safety).

    • DO NOT open the lid when the kettle is hot.

    • If you want to use the kettle again, let the safety cut-out cool down for 60 seconds, then press the DO NOT open the lid when the kettle is hot.

    • If you want to use the kettle again, let the safety cut-out cool down for 60 seconds, then press the button.

If this happens, “E4” will appear on the display; press the C) button and immediately disconnect the kettle. Let the kettle cool down before refilling it. button.

    • If the kettle is switched on by mistake when it is empty, the thermostat automatically performs an on off cycle to prevent the kettle from overheating. If this happens, “E4” will appear on the display; press the C) button and immediately disconnect the kettle. Let the kettle cool down before refilling it.

  8. After use, return the kettle to its base or put it on a heat-resistant surface.

  9. Disconnect the power cable from the power socket when not in use.

HOW TO HOLD THE WATER AT A CONSTANT TEMPERATURE
After the boiling cycle, the filter kettle can hold the water at a set temperature for up to 2 hours.

  1. With the appliance on, turn the dial to select the hold temperature for the filtered water (38°C to 100°C/100° F-212° F).
  2. Press the button; the  symbol and the pre-set time of 30 minutes will appear on the display. The time can be reduced or increased up to 2 hours by turning the dial. If the temperature of the water in the kettle is lower than the selected temperature, the kettle automatically heats it, then beeps and holds it constant. The set time will count down on the appliance display.
  • If the temperature of the water in the kettle is higher than the selected temperature, the set time will only start to count down when the water has cooled down to the set temperature. The appliance will beep 3 times when the set hold time has elapsed.
  • During intermittent heating, the actual water temperature, the set temperature and the set hold temperature will appear on the display in succession.

REPLACING THE FILTER CARTRIDGE
