General Aire GF4400A Fan Assist Evaporative Humidifiers
Product Information
Model GF4400A
The Model GF4400A is a fan-assist evaporative humidifier designed for installation on the supply plenum of a forced air handling system. It is an automatic humidifier that helps maintain optimal humidity levels in your home or office.

Installation Instructions – Supply (ONLY)
- Cut a rectangular hole using the manufacturer-supplied template.
- Install the humidifier chassis, ensuring the drain spout is pointing downward.
- Level the chassis and secure it using the included six mounting screws.
- Connect the 1/4″ water supply tube to the brass inlet of the solenoid.
- Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.
- Connect the 1/2″ ID drain hose to the spout on the humidifier cabinet using the provided flat spring clip.
- Run the drain hose to a suitable drain such as a floor drain, laundry sink, or condensate pump.
GFX4 Digital Automatic Control
The GF4400A comes with the GFX4 Digital Automatic Control for easy operation and humidity level adjustment.
Product Usage Instructions
- Turn on the water supply.
- Set the humidistat to the desired relative humidity (RH%) level, preferably 60% or higher.
- Turn on the furnace and ensure the blower motor is running.
- Once the solenoid valve is energized, it should open, allowing water to flow through the distributor trough.
- Check the flow of water through the distributor trough to ensure proper operation.
FAQ
Q: Can I install the GF4400A on any part of the air handling system?
A: No, the GF4400A can only be installed on the supply plenum of a forced air handling system.
Q: Can I use plastic tubing in contact with hot plenum surfaces or ducts?
A: No, plastic tubing should not be used in contact with any hot plenum surface or duct.
Q: How much water does the standard preassembled stainless steel tube and orifice assembly supply?
A: The standard preassembled stainless steel tube and orifice assembly supplies approximately 3.5 gallons per hour (GPH) of water at a line water pressure of 60 PSI.
Instructions
Supply Plenum Installation Location:
The model 4400A fan-assist evaporative humidifier may be installed on the supply plenum (ONLY) of a forced air handling system. Select a location for the humidifier that allows for service and maintenance.

CAUTION! 24V Transformer is Factory Installed. Do NOT Install a Separate 24Vac Supply Source to the External Yellow & Red Wires.
Not Included (Contractor Supplied):
- 1/4″ Diameter plastic supply tubing for cold water applications, or 1/4″ copper supply tubing for hot water applications
- Electrical wire and (2) wire nuts

WARNING: DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER BEFORE BEGINNING INSTALLATION.
IMPORTANT: To ensure your safety and the longevity of your unit, we recommend:
- Contacting a licensed contractor to perform maintenance or repairs.
- Changing your Vapor Pad® at the start of each heating season.
WARNING: Do not install where ambient temperatures fall below 32°F / 0° C or where plenum temperatures exceed 200° F / 93° C. For maximum evaporative capacity, install this humidifier on the warm air supply plenum.
INSTALLATION
INSTALLATION – SUPPLY (ONLY)

Cut a rectangular hole using the manufacturer-supplied template.

Install the humidifier chassis, making sure the drain spout is pointing downward, as shown. Level the chassis and install using the included six mounting screws.

A. Utilizing copper tubing requires a brass compression nut and brass sleeve.
B. Utilizing plastic tubing requires a brass insert inside the tubing, and a plastic sleeve on the outside with a brass compression nut.
C. Follow the included T-Valve Instructions -
Connect 1/4″ water supply tube to brass inlet of solenoid. Turn on water supply and check for leaks.
CAUTION: Do not use plastic tubing in contact with any hot plenum surface or duct.
The standard preassembled stainless steel tube and orifice assembly (part number 4200-21;) will supply approximately 3.5 GPH of water at a line water pressure of 60 PSI.
Installing the T-Valve
- Cut the pipe square removing rough edges and debris.
- Mark the pipe to the correct insertion depth.
- Push pipe and fitting together up to the depth mark.
- You’re finished.
- Connect the 1/2″ ID drain hose to the spout on the humidifier cabinet using the provided flat spring clip. Run the drain hose to a suitable drain such as floor drain, laundry sink or to a condensate pump (sold separately). Be sure the hose has continuous slope and is not kinked at any point.
- Test the Operation of the Unit
- Turn on the water supply.
- Turn the humidistat RH% to 60% or higher.
- Turn the furnace on; heat cycle. Make sure the furnace blower motor is on.
- Once the solenoid valve is energized the valve should open.
- Check flow of water through distributor trough and evaporator pad.
- Check fan operation (ON).
- Reduce RH% to desired setting after test completion.
- Connect the Humidistat (Typical Humidistat & Humidifier Installation Wiring Diagram)

MAINTENANCE
Replace your GA35 Vapor Pad® at the beginning of each heating season.
- Remove Cover
- Release & Open Door
- Remove Vapor Pad Assembly
- Remove & Discard Used Vapor Pad
- Remove Scale Buildup, If Present, On Frame
- Reinsert Vapor Pad Assembly
- Close Door
- Reinstall Cover
