Product Usage Instructions

Checking Handpiece Pressure

  1. Insert the test multi-gauge manometer between the handpiece/coupler and delivery system tubing.
  2. Check the drive air pressure, water pressure, and the spray air pressure.

Connecting Handpiece

  1. 1. Slide the handpiece onto the coupler.
  2. Press firmly until it snaps into place.

Note: The handpiece should swivel freely with slight tension and sit flush on the coupler.

Removing Handpiece
To remove the handpiece, hold the ring on the coupler and pullthe handpiece straight off. Do not hold or pull on the hose.

Changing Burs

  1. Press the release ring on the end cap and remove the bur.
  2. To install a new bur, press the push-button and insert the bur into the head until it stops.
  3. Release pressure on the button; the bur should now be secure.
  4. Firmly tug on the bur to ensure that it is properly secured.

Maintenance

Manual Cleaning and Lubrication

Cleaning and lubrication are required before each sterilization cycle.

  1. Remove the bur.
  2. Detach the handpiece from the delivery system.
  3. Fit the appropriate spray adapter onto the universal cap nozzle of the Brasseler Handpiece Spray.
  4. Insert the nozzle into the back of the handpiece and hold it in place.
  5. Dispense spray for 1-2 seconds, then run the handpiece to purge cleaner/lubricant.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the cleaner/lubricant expelled from the head is clear.
  7. Wipe excess cleaner/lubricant from the handpiece with a dry, lint-free cloth.

Chuck Maintenance

It is recommended to clean the push-button chuck every 3-4 maintenance cycles.

  1. Remove the bur.
  2. Detach the handpiece from the delivery system.
  3. Fit the chuck adapter onto the universal cap nozzle of the Brasseler Handpiece Spray.
  4. Insert the spray adapter into the chuck and dispense spray for 1-2 seconds.

CAUTION

  • Do not run handpiece without bur locked in chuck.
  • Do not disassemble, modify or alter handpiece.
  • Do not press push-button end cap during use since this could result in OVERHEATING of handpiece head. Special caution must be exercised during use to keep cheek tissue away from push-button end cap. Contact with cheek tissue may cause push-button to depress and may result in burn injury to patient.
  • Never attempt to remove bur while handpiece is running.
  • If any abnormalities are found, stop using immediately and contact Brasseler USA.

Checking Handpiece Pressure

  1. Insert the test multi-gauge manometer between the handpiece/coupler and delivery system tubing (Fig. 1).
  2. Check the drive air pressure, water pressure, and the spray air pressure.

CAUTION

  • Exceeding recommended air pressure may result in premature cartridge failure.

OPERATION

Connecting Coupler (Fig. 2)

  1. Align tubes and pins on coupler with holes in delivery system tubing.
  2. Thread tubing nut to bottom of coupler.
  3. Hold coupler and finger tighten nut.

Connecting Handpiece (Fig. 3)

  1. Slide handpiece onto coupler.
  2. Press firmly until it snaps into place.
    Note: Handpiece should swivel freely with slight tension and sit flush on coupler.

Removing Handpiece (Fig. 3)
Hold ring on coupler and pull handpiece straight off. Note: Do not hold or pull on hose.

Changing Burs ( Fig. 4)

CAUTION

  • Only use ISO standard burs with shank diameter of .0628” – .0630” (1.595mm-1.600mm).
  • Do not use bent, worn or damaged burs.
  • Always keep burs clean. Dirt and debris on shank may cause clogging/sticking, loss of grip or premature wear of chuck.
  • For standard head handpiece, use standard shank burs; to prevent bur breaking off in chuck assembly do not use short shank burs.

Installation

  1. Press push-button and insert bur into head until it stops.
  2. Release pressure on button; bur should now be secure.
  3. Firmly tug on bur to ensure that it is properly secured.

Removal

  1. Press push-button on end cap with thumb.
  2. Pull to remove bur.

MAINTENANCE

CAUTION

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment during maintenance process. This should include eye protection and gloves.

Note: For best performance and extended handpiece life, use the EVERclean Handpiece Maintenance Machine to care for your handpieces.

Cleaning and Lubrication with EVERclean Handpiece Maintenance Machine Handpiece maintenance

Note: Cleaning and lubrication is required before each sterilization cycle.

  1. Remove bur.
  2. Detach handpiece from delivery system.
  3. Attach handpiece to appropriate connector in EVERclean Maintenance Machine (5028208U0).
  4. Run maintenance cycle. See EVERclean instructions for further information.
  5. Remove handpiece from EVERclean Maintenance Machine after cycle completes.
  6. Wipe excess cleaner/lubricant from handpiece with dry, lint-free cloth.

Chuck maintenance

Note: It is recommended that the push-button chuck be cleaned every 3 – 4 maintenance cycles.

  1. Remove bur.
  2. Place chuck opening against tapered end of chuck cleaning nozzle.
  3. Press start. Keep handpiece in place until beep sounds indicating that cleaning cycle is completed. See EVERclean instructions for additional information.

Manual Cleaning and Lubrication Handpiece Maintenance

Note: Cleaning and lubrication is required before each sterilization cycle.

  1. Remove bur.
  2. Detach handpiece from delivery system.
  3. Fit spray-appropriate adapter onto universal cap nozzle of Brasseler Handpiece Spray (5029861U0) (Fig. 5).
  4. Insert nozzle into back of handpiece and hold it in place (Fig. 6).
  5. Dispense spray for 1-2 seconds, then run handpiece to purge cleaner/lubricant.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until cleaner/lubricant expelled from head is clear.
  7. Wipe excess cleaner/lubricant from handpiece with dry, lint-free cloth.

Chuck Maintenance

Note: It is recommended that the push-button chuck be cleaned every 3 – 4 maintenance cycles.

  1. Remove bur.
  2. Detach handpiece from delivery system.
  3. Fit chuck adapter onto universal cap nozzle of Brasseler Handpiece Spray.
  4. Insert spray adapter into chuck and dispense spray for 1 – 2 seconds (Fig. 7).
  5. Work chuck mechanism to distribute cleaner/lubricant by repeatedly pressing button.
  6. With push button depressed, insert and remove bur several times to break-up remaining debris.
  7. Wipe off excess cleaner/lubricant with a dry, lint-free cloth.

Cleaning Water Spray Ports

Note: It is recommended that spray ports be periodically cleaned.

  1. Carefully clean ports using cleaning wire supplied with handpiece (Fig. 8).
  2. Connect handpiece and run with water flow activated to confirm ports have been fully cleared of debris.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as necessary.

Cleaning Optic Rod

  1. Clear optic surfaces of particulates by spraying with air syringe.
  2. Wipe optic surfaces with a soft cloth or cotton swab moist with alcohol.

Changing Coupler O-rings

CAUTION

  • Improper care of o-rings may cause handpiece to malfunction.
  • When changing/replacing coupler o-rings, always replace complete set.

Note: Coupler o-rings may be lubricated with Brasseler Handpiece Spray.

  1. Use an explorer to gently remove old/worn o-rings.
  2. Slide on new o-rings using only fingers to not cause damage.
STERILIZATION

WARNING

  • Sterilize with autoclave after each patient use.
  • Sterilization is required before first use.

CAUTION

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment during sterilization and lubrication process. This should include eye protection and gloves.
  • Do not use ultrasonic bath or cold sterile/disinfectant chemicals to clean handpiece.
  • Do not autoclave handpieces together with other instruments.
  • Do not use dry heat sterilization.
  • Keep handpiece in sterilization pouch until ready to use.
  • Do not cool handpiece manually as damage may occur.
  • Do not autoclave at temperatures that exceed 275º F (135º C).
    • Remove bur, then wipe external surface with dry paper towel to remove any excess lubricant and debris. Place paper towel in bio-hazard bin when finished.
    • Place handpiece in sterilization pouch and seal. Bag handpieces individually; no more than 1 per pouch.
    • Sterilize in a gravity type autoclave for a minimum of 15 minutes or in a pre-vacuum autoclave for a minimum of 4 minutes at 270° F (132° C). Let autoclave cycle completely. Do not remove before handpiece is completely cool and pouch is dry.
