Multi-Dongle Control
- For Elite and Select controllers, it is possible using the HM7090: Club Adapter (R7404) & R8237 to have multiple Legacy Dongles installed for multi-user control. Each user will be able to control a Legacy Dongle with their own phone or tablet via the HM I DCC app and control any DCC locomotives on a given layout. More Legacy Dongles can be added into a
‘Christmas Tree’ arrangement with additional adapters, for up to D Legacy Dongle user(s).

Quick Start Guide
Getting to know the HM7040
Initial setup / Configuration
- The HM7040: Legacy Dongle connects to a Hornby Select (R8213) or Hornby Elite Controller (R8214) for proper function and will allow control of DCC decoders via the HM | DCC app. Please ensure that the instructional manual for your Elite or Select controller has been read and is correctly setup prior to the Legacy Dongle install.
- Plug the Power Supply Plug from the power supply provided with your Elite (15V …. 4A) or Select (15V …. 1A) into your controller and into the mains socket. Switch on the mains power.
- Allow your Elite or Select controller to power up and finish the start-up sequence. Your Legacy Dongle should have the Power LED as solid ‘Red’
- Place your DCC decoder fitted locomotive onto the track. Ensure that you remember the Loco Address of your DCC locomotive (CV1).
Connect HM7040 to HM
Download the HM | DCC application.
- A. Scan the QR code [A.] with a compatible Android / iOS phone or tablet.
- B. You will be directed to the HM | DCC app in your app store. You can also search for “HM DCC” in your app store to find the HM | DCC app.
- C. Tap on ‘GET’ or ‘Install’ next to the HM | DCC app icon and follow the on-screen instructions.
- D. Wait for the app to download and install on your phone or tablet.
- E. Open the app and login to HM | DCC using your Hornby.com account. A Hornby account can be created via the Hornby.com website; scan the QR code [E.] to register.
Connect your HM7040: Legacy Dongle to HM | DCC.
- A. Ensure steps have been followed and your DCC locomotive is powered.
- B. On the compatible phone or tablet you wish to use, ensure that your Bluetooth® is turned on.
- C. Ensure you allow HM | DCC access to Bluetooth® permissions on your device. Ensure ALL other permissions are granted and for Android users, Nearby Device Scanning & Location Services are turned on.
- D. Follow the ‘Device Link’ process on the HM | DCC app. Once complete, the Bluetooth® Connection LED will be solid or strobing ‘Blue’ on the Legacy Dongle. Please ensure that your DCC locomotive is setup on the HM | DCC app with the same address as your fitted decoder (default Loco Address = 3′, CV1 = ‘3″). Your locomotive will now respond to inputs on the ‘Control Screen’.
Hard Reset
To Hard Reset on HM | DCO
- It is advised to first go through the ‘Unlink & Delete Device’ process on the HM | DCC app.
- This is the primary method for a Hard Reset and will prepare your Legacy Dongle for ‘Device Link’ to a new phone or tablet.

To Hard Reset on your HM7040.
- A. Ensure your Legacy Dongle is powered.
- B. Using a thin tool (e.g., a paperclip), press and hold in the Reset Button until both the Power LED and Bluetooth Connection LED begin flashing.
- C. The Power LED will return to solid ‘Red”‘ and Bluetooth Connection LED will be set to off. Your Legacy Dongle will be reset to default settings.
Please note: A Hard Reset of the HM7040: Legacy Dongle will not remove the device from the HM | DCC application. Please first perform the Unlink & Delete Device process; if this is not possible, ensure to ‘Force Delete’ the HM7040 from the HM I DCC. annidation first
Dual-Donale Control (Elites prior to 2018)
- Featured on some previous generation Elite controllers are 2 XPRESSNET ports. Users with this setup can plug 2 Legacy Dongles into the Elite controller and gain function for up to 2 users on a layout. Each user will be able to control a Legacy Dongle with their own phone or tablet via the HM | DCC app, allowing for both users to control any DCC fitted locomotives on the layout
