Chapter 2: Installation

2.1 Mounting

To mount the DPM-D510, follow these steps:

  1. Select a suitable location on the DIN rail to mount the power
    meter.

  2. Slide the power meter onto the DIN rail until it clicks into
    place.

  3. Ensure that the power meter is securely mounted and does not
    move or wobble.

2.2 Wiring

1.1 Preface
Thank you for choosing this product. This manual provides installation instructions for the DPM-D510 power meter. The multifunction power meter DPM-D510 is an obvious choice for any application in terms of power monitoring and control for sectors such as power system, industrial mining supply company, and public facility. Before using the meter, read this manual carefully to ensure proper use of this meter. After reading the manual, keep it in a convenient location for quick reference. Before you finish reading this manual, observe the following notes. The installation environment must be free of water vapor, corrosive and flammable gas. Follow the instructions on the diagram in this manual for wiring the device. Grounding must be performed correctly and properly according to provisions for related electric work
regulations currently effective in the country. Do not disassemble the meter or alter its wiring when the power is on. When the power is on, do not touch the terminal area to avoid electric shock.
If you still experience issues when using the device, please contact your distributor or our customer service center. As the product is updated and improved, changes to the specifications will be included in the newest version of the manual which you can get by contacting your distributor or downloading it from the Delta Electronics website (http://www.delta.com.tw/ia/).

Installation Notes Install the power meter according to instructions on the manual. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices. Only qualified electrical workers should install this equipment. Such work should be performed only after reading the entire set of installation instructions. Operate the power meter according to instructions on the manual. Neglecting fundamental installation requirements may lead to personal injury as well as damage to electrical equipment or other property. This equipment should be installed in a suitable insulated and fireproof enclosure.
Operation Notes
DO NOT work alone. Before performing visual inspections, tests, or maintenance on this equipment,
disconnect all electric power sources. Always use a properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm that power is off. Replace all devices, doors and covers before turning on power to this equipment. Carefully inspect the work area for tools and objects that may have been left inside
the equipment.
Operation Notes Never short the secondary of a Power Transformer (PT). Never open circuit a Current Transformer (CT) Ensure that the CT secondary winding is fixed securely on the equipment. It may damage the equipment if the secondary winding becomes loose during operation. When used with CTs, make sure the CTs are UL2808 listed in America and Canada and meet or exceed the accuracy specifications for IEC61869-2 class or accepted by authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) in other areas.
Wiring Notes When the measured current is higher than the rated specification for the device, consider using an external current transformer (CT). When the measured voltage is higher than the rated specification for the device, consider using an external potential transformer (PT) (line voltage: 35 to 690V AC L-L or phase voltage: 20 to 400V AC L-N, 3P4W-690Y400 Vac / 3P3W-600 Vac). Connect only one cord to one plug on the quick connector. For the device is accidently unplugged, check the connecting cord and restart.

Maintenance and Inspection Notes While cleaning the equipment, be sure to unplug all external power sources first. Use a dry cloth to clean the equipment’s exterior. DO NOT open the equipment or touch the wiring inside to prevent personal injury as well as damage to electrical equipment or other property. DO NOT use aerosol sprays, solvents, or abrasives.

250 mA fuse: Either positive or negative charge can be used on L1/+ and L2/-. When using a neutral wire for AC power,
you need to connect the neutral wire to the L2/-. Always use a fuse on L1/+. When using an ungrounded neutral wire to connect to the power, use a fuse on
L2/-. If you are using a Power Transformer (PT) or a Current Transformer (CT), use fuses on the primary and secondary windings. The rated voltage / current of the fuse, breaker, and device should be the same to prevent damage to electrical equipment or other property.

3.1 Installation
3.1.1 Installation Environment
Keep the product in the shipping carton before installation. Store the product properly when it is not to be used for an extended period of time to retain the warranty coverage. Some storage suggestions are listed below. Store the power meter in a clean, dry, and controlled environment. Store DPM-D510 in an ambient temperature range of -30 ~ 70°C (-22 ~ 158°F). Store in a relative humidity range of 5­95%, non-condensing. Do not store the product in a place subjected to corrosive gases or liquids. Place the product on a solid and durable surface. Do not mount the product near heat-radiating elements; or in a location subjected to corrosive gases,
liquids, airborne dust or metallic particles; or where it can be subjected to high levels of electromagnetic radiation.

3.2 Basic Checks

Regularly check for mounting looseness where the power meter and device are

connected.

General Check

Prevent foreign objects, such as oil, water, or metal powder entering the device through the ventilation holes. Prevent drill shavings or other debris entering the power meter.

If the power meter is installed at a location with harmful gas or dust, prevent those

3.3 Wiring
3.3.1 Wiring Diagrams
To avoid electric shock, do not change the wiring when the power is on. Install a breaker switch on the power cord for the meter because there is no power switch on the power
meter. When the measured voltage is higher than the rated specification for the device, it is necessary to use an
external potential transformer (PT). When the measured current is higher than the rated specification for the device, it is necessary to use an
external current transformer (CT).

Use shielded twisted-pair cables for RS485 communication. When connecting multiple devices in series, use the wiring method in the following diagram.

4.1 General Operation
4.1.1 Setting Menu
HOME page (HOME): Values measured by the power meter, including average voltage (Vavg (AVG)), average current (Iavg (AVG)), total real power (Ptot (SUM)).
Phase voltage (VLN): Phase voltage values measured by the power meter, including phase A voltage (VL1N(V)), phase B voltage (VL2N(V)), phase C voltage (VL3N(V)).
Line voltage (VLL): Line voltage values measured by the power meter, including A-B line voltage (VL12(V)), B-C line voltage (VL23(V)), C-A line voltage (VL31(V)).
Electric current page (Current): Electric current measured by the power meter, including phase A current (IL1N(A)), phase B current (IL2N(A)), phase C current (IL3N(A)).
Power factor page (PF/F): Power factors measured by the power meter, including total power factor (PF) and frequency (F(Hz)).
Power page (Power): Values measured by the power meter, including total active power (Ptot(W)), total reactive power (Qtot(var)), and total apparent power (Stot(VA)).
Active power page (Active Power): Active power value measured by the power meter, including active power of phase A (L1N(W)), phase B (L2N(W)) and phase C (L3N(W)).

Energy page (Energy): Energy values measured by the power meter, including positive active energy (Wh+), positive reactive energy (var+), positive apparent energy (VA+), reversed active energy (Wh-), reserved reactive energy (var-) and reserved apparent energy (VA-). (Reversed active/ reactive/ apparent energy are supported by firmware version 1.02 and after.) 1. Use UP and DOWN to switch among setting pages. 2. Press BACK to return to the homepage (Home) on other setting pages. 3. Note(1): When on the homepage, press BACK to enter the correct password and enter setting pages. 4. Note(2): Values of positive reactive energy would be displayed with inductance icon, while values of reversed reactive energy would be displayed with capacitance. For values of reversed active energy and apparent energy, a minus sign would be displayed. 5. Note(3): The real-time status of active/ reactive power would be displayed on all measurement display pages with four P-Q quadrants. Inductive and capacitive state would be shown on the PF value display for positive/ reversed reactive energy. Four P-Q quadrants and inductive/ capacitive state would not be displayed when average current is under 20mA. The following figure is shown with a reversed reactive energy value, which the real-time status of active/ reactive power is displayed with a four P-Q quadrant icon.

4.2 Setups
4.2.1 Password Setup (PASS)
Password: before using power meter, you need to enter the password (default 0000) Steps:
1. Press NEXT key till the first digit starts blinking 2. Use UP and DOWN keys to select the first digit of the password 3. Press NEXT key to confirm the selected digit and you can start to set the next digit 4. Repeat steps 2-3 till you complete the setting of the 4 digit password. 5. After you complete the setting of the 4 digit password, press NEXT key to go to the parameter
setting page. *Note 1: if you need to edit the setting you just set, you can press BACK key and the digit will stop blinking. Press NEXT key to reset a new password.

4.2.2 Communication Setup (COM)
Address (Addr): device ID; its address setting range is 1-254 (default: 1). Baud Rate (BAud): transmission speed; the setting options are 9600 bps (9.6k) (default), 19200(19.2k)
and 38400 bps (38.4k). Parity setting (Prty): odd and even checking bit for communication; the setting options are None (8n1),
Even (8E1), and Odd (8o1); default: None. Steps:
1. Press NEXT key when the COM icon is displayed to enter the setting menu under COM. 2. Use UP and DOWN keys to select the device ID (Addr), baud rate (bAud) and parity (Prty). 3. When Addr is shown on the display, press NEXT key to confirm the setting and start to use UP and
DOWN keys to select the desired device ID. 4. When bAud is shown on the display, press NEXT key to confirm the setting and start to use UP and
DOWN keys to select the desired baud rate. 5. When Prty is shown on the display, press NEXT key to confirm the setting and start to use UP and
DOWN keys to select the desired parity. 6. In steps 3-5, use UP and DOWN key to choose each digit and press NEXT to confirm the setting.
The setting sequence for the three-digit number of device ID is hundreds digit tens digit units digit; you are allowed to set only one digit at a time.

4.2.3 Wiring Type (tyPE)
Connection types: options are one-phase two-wire (1P2W), one-phase three-wire (1P3W), three-phase three-wire (3P3W), and three-phase four-wire (3P4W); default: three-phase four-wire (3P4W).
Steps: 1. Press NEXT key when the tyPE icon is shown on the left side of the display, then the previous
connection type setting would be displayed (13P234W icon). Press NEXT to configure the setting.
2. Press UP and DOWN keys to select the desired connection type. 3. Press NEXT key to confirm the setting. *Note: You can go back to the previous setting item by pressing BACK key anytime, whether you have completed or canceled the setting.

4.2.4 VT and CT Setup (VT CT)
VT number (VT): The number of voltage transformers that is currently being used. Options are 0 (0VT), 2(2VT) and 3(3VT). The default is 3.
CT number (CT): The number of current transformers that is currently being used. Options are 1 (1VT), 2(2VT) and 3(3VT). The default is 3
VT ratio (VT Pri / VT SEC): Volt for the primary-side current transformer, ranging from 1 to 9999 V; default: 1 V. Volt for the secondary-side current transformer, ranging from 1 to 9999 V; default: 1 V.
CT ratio (CT Pri / CT SEC): Ampere for the primary-side current transformer, ranging from 1 to 9999 A; default: 5 A. Ampere for the secondary-side current transformer, selecting between 1A and 5A; default: 5A.

Steps: 1. When VT CT is shown on the display, press NEXT key to enter the setting menu under VT CT and VT would be shown on the display. 2. Use UP and DOWN keys to select the number of VT (VT no.) and CT (CT no.), VT ratio (VT Pri / VT SEC), CT ratio (CT Pri / CT SEC). 3. Press NEXT when VT no. is displayed. When the option starts blinking, you can use UP and DOWN keys to select the number of voltage transformers you need. 4. Press NEXT when CT no. is displayed. When the option starts blinking, you can use UP and DOWN keys to select the number of current transformers you need. 5. Press NEXT when VT Pri or VT SEC is displayed. When the option starts blinking, you can use UP and DOWN keys to select the desired VT ratio. 6. Press NEXT when CT Pri or CT SEC. is displayed. When the option starts blinking, you can use UP and DOWN keys to select the desired CT ratio.
7. In steps 3-5, you are allowed to set only one digit at a time by using UP and DOWN key to choose each digit and press NEXT to confirm the setting.

4.2.5 Reset (rSt)
No action (nonE): do not reset. Restore to defaults (dEF): restore the power meter parameters to default settings. Reset the energy value: Reset the accumulated value of electric energy (PH) on the meter to zero. Steps:
1. Press NEXT key till the option starts blinking. 2. Use UP and DOWN keys to select the reset options. 3. Press NEXT key to confirm the setting. Note: You can go back to the previous setting item by pressing BACK key anytime, whether you have completed or canceled the setting.

When the protocol is Modbus RTU, the maximum address to be gathered with a single Modbus block read is 50 for function code 0x3, and the maximum address is 49 for function code 0x10. The function code 0xFE can be used only when the protocol is Modbus RTU.

5.2.2 Modbus Communication Protocol
Modbus RTU mode is adopted with Modbus Master sending out the Request, in which the Function Code uses 0x03 to request response from Slave to correspond to values in Modbus address. In Response, Modbus Slave responds to the values of Modbus address in the Master request. The packet format of IEEE754 is used for the address of floating point numbers that corresponds to the register values found in table 5.2, using 2’s complement packet format. The format are as follows:

Example: For Modbus Master, such as PLC or data collector, it uses Modbus protocol to get the value of CT setting (Register address 0x000E) on the power meter (Modbus Slave) (Slave address 0x1). After receiving response from the power meter, Modbus Master acquires the value of currents from the primary-side current transformer (register address 0x000E), which is 1000 (0x3E8).

Should Modbus Slave (power meter) receive an abnormal Request, the format of the abnormal packet responded and the error codes are as follows.
