SAFETY
- WARNING! Wear eye protection and take care when compressing/decompressing springs as they can become dislodged and fly off.
- DO NOT allow dirt or foreign matter to enter the engine parts.
- Ensure any oil return holes in the cylinder head and spark plug holes are covered to prevent collets or seals entering the engine.
- DO NOT use air or electric tools with this tool.
INTRODUCTION
This tool provides a simple means for replacement of valve stem oil seals, damaged or broken valve springs without having to remove the cylinder head.

APPLICATIONS
Ford CVH engines. Fiesta, Orion 1.4 and 1.6 models including XR3 and RS Turbo models
OPERATION
- Disconnect the battery earth lead.
- Remove the air cleaner unit, cam belt cover, rocker box cover and spark plugs in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Rotate the engine in the normal direction of rotation until the relevant piston is at top dead centre.
- Remove the relevant rocker arm and hydraulic tappet.
- Fit the valve spring compressor claw over the valve spring cap and screw the seating nut onto the M8 rocker nut until the heel of the compressor sits on the empty tappet hole. Fig.1
- Tighten the 22mm nut to compress the valve spring and retaining cap just enough to allow the split collet to be released from the groove in the valve stem.
- With the collets removed, slowly undo the 22mm nut and remove t he compressor tool, valve spring and cap.
- Prise the valve stem oil seal from the valve guide, fit new seal and reassemble in the reverse order of dismantling.
ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
Recycle unwanted materials instead of disposing of them as waste. All tools, accessories, and packaging should be sorted, taken to a recycling center and disposed of in a manner that is compatible with the environment. When the product becomes completely unserviceable and requires disposal, drain any fluids (if applicable) into approved containers and dispose of the product and fluids according to local regulations.
