Product Information

The product is a commercial water heater designed to fit into tight retrofit applications. It comes in capacities ranging from 35 to 100 gallons. The water heater is manufactured by Ruud and can be found at Ruud.com/CommercialWaterHeating. It features a space-saving design and multiple connections for easier replacement, installation, and maintenance. The compact size and multiple water connections of the Universal water heater make installations in commercial retrofits simpler.

Product Usage Instructions

To replace or install the Universal water heater, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that the water heater is suitable for your retrofit application in terms of capacity and dimensions.
  2. Prepare the installation location, ensuring proper ventilation and access to the necessary water connections.
  3. Carefully position the water heater in the desired location, taking note of the top, front, and rear water connections.
  4. Connect the water supply pipes to the appropriate water connections on the water heater.
  5. Connect the gas or LP supply line to the water heater, following the manufacturer’s instructions and local codes.
  6. Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free.
  7. Provide a 120V power source with 0.3 amps for the water heater to operate.
  8. Perform a quick inspection to verify proper installation and functionality.

Note: For LP models, use a 3/4-inch gas supply line. Increase the height by 3-5/8 inches for NSF models. All models require a 120V power source with 0.3 amps.

  1. Universal’s short height and narrow jacket diameters, plus top, front and rear water inlets/outlets offer the ultimate in installation flexibility.

Certification and Ratings
EFFICIENCY All models tested according to ANSI test procedures, and meet or exceed the thermal efficiency and standby loss requirements of ASHRAE standard (EPact). Also exceeds energy efficiency codes of all states including California Energy Commission (CEC).

Safety and Construction

These products are design certified by the CSA:

  1. For operation at 180°F.
  2. To meet all safety and construction requirements of ANSI Z21.10.3.
  3. As an automatic storage or instantaneous water heater.
  4. As an automatic circulating tank water heater.
  5. For operation on combustible floors and in alcove installations. All models are North Carolina Code compliant.

Certified for a 150 PSI Maximum Working Pressure (160 PSI for ASME Models)

Optional Constructions
ASME construction is available on designated models. UL Sanitation (NSF5) compliant models are available when equipped with optional leg kit. (Part No. AM35450)
