Product Information
Electric Fencer – Ranger N270
The Electric Fencer – Ranger N270 is a powerful electric fence controller designed for ensuring the safety and security of your premises. It operates with a voltage level of up to 3000V and can be used with SECURA ANIMAL or SECURA SECURITY safety systems. The controller is identical in construction to the intelliSTOP N40 model.
Key Features:
- Installation and connection must be done in a weather-protected location with no risk of fire.
- The controller should be mounted vertically.
- The earth lead must be attached to the earth terminal ( ) and the fence lead to either the fence terminal ( ) or ( ).
- A lightning protection system must be installed if the fence lead is conducted away from the building.
- The controller operates on a 230V power supply.
- The control lamp (1) and fence voltage level (2) indicate proper operation.
- The controller has two fence terminals (Z1 and Z2) for operating separate fence systems simultaneously.
- Testing grounding is recommended for ensuring proper functionality.
- The device is suitable for use by individuals aged eight years or above, with suitable supervision or extensive instruction.
Product Usage Instructions
Installation and Connection
- Choose a location that is protected from weather and has no risk of fire.
- Mount the controller in a vertical position.
- Attach the earth lead to the earth terminal ( ) on the controller.
- Connect the fence lead to either the fence terminal ( ) or ( ).
- If the fence lead is conducted away from the building, install a lightning protection system.
Operating and Control
- Plug the mains cable into a 230V supply socket.
- After a few seconds, a slight tic-tac sound can be heard.
- The control lamp (1) and fence voltage level (2) will flash with the pulses, indicating proper operation.
- If the control lamp (1) is flashing, the energizer is operating correctly. If it is not illuminated or steadily illuminated, there may be a fault with the energizer.
- The 6 control lamps (2) indicate the fence voltage in 1000V steps. At least 3 lamps should flash (3000V) to ensure sufficient voltage and fencing.
- If the voltage is too low, check for heavy vegetation on the fence, insulator flash-over, or a fence that is too long.
Fence Terminal Options
The controller has two fence terminals: Z1 and Z2. These terminals allow for operating separate fences simultaneously.
- Z1 = Maximum output
- Z2 = Reduced output
A short in the Z2 fence will not strongly influence Z1, but a short or deviation in Z1 will further reduce Z2. When operating with two fence systems (Z1 + Z2), the indication lamps will show the reduced output only.
Testing Grounding
To test grounding, follow these steps:
- Produce a short circuit with a metal stake against the fence wire (no plastic) at a distance of approximately 50m from the fencer.
- Observe the lamps on the controller:
- Max. 1 lamp (wet ground) or 2 lamps (dry ground) may shine.
- If more lamps shine, drive in more stakes.
Note: Servicing, cleaning, and maintenance should only be carried out by qualified service personnel. Only use replacement parts commanded by the manufacturer.

Installation and connection
The installation is to be made at a location protected from weather and where
there is no risk of fire. The controller must be mounted in the vertical
position. The earth lead must be attached to the earth terminal ( ), the fence
lead either to the fence terminal
( ).
The power supply cable must not be handled when the temperature is below 5°C.
If the fence lead is conducted away from the building a lightning protection
must be installed.
Operating and control
- Plug the mains cable in a 230 V supply socket. After a few seconds a slight tic-tac can be heard. The control lamp (1) and the fence voltage level (2) flashes with the pulses.
- If the control lamp (1) flashes with the the pulses energizer operates properly. If this lamp is not or steady illuminated the energizer is faulty.
- The 6 controllamps (2) indicate the fence voltage in 1000V steps. At least 3 lamps should flash (3000V) to ensure sufficient voltage and fencing.
- Possible reasons, when the voltage is too low:
- with fence: heavy vegetation on the fence, insulator flash-over or fence too long.
- without fence: the energizer is faulty, see service.
- The energizer has two fence terminals: (page 3 / fig. 2) (Z1) = max output (Z2) = reduced output Both outlets can operate separate fences at the same time. A short in the Z2 fence has no strong influence on Z1 but a short or a deviation in Z1 means a further reduction of Z2. By operating with two fence systems ( Z1 + Z2 ) the indication lamps show the reduced output only.
Testing grounding (3):
Produce with a metal stake against the fence wire (no plastic) a short circuit
(ca. 50m distance to fencer).
Max. 1 lamp (wet ground) or 2 lamps (dry ground) may shine.
Otherwise drive in more stakes (see picture).
Attention: This device may only be used by children aged eight years or above
and persons with restricted physical, sensory or mental capabilities, lack of
experience or lack of knowledge if suitable supervision is present or if
extensive and understandable instruction on using the device has been given.
Children may not play with this device. Cleaning and maintenance may not be
carried out by children without supervision.
Touching electrified fences, especially with the head, neck or upper body,
should be avoided. Do not climb over the fence, through the fence or under the
fence. To pass through the fence, use a gate or other crossing facility.
Service:
Servicing is only to be made by qualified service personell. Only by the
manufacturer commanded replacement parts must be used. If the supply cord of
this energizer is damaged this cord must be replaced by a special supply cord
which is recommended by the manufacturer.
