Operating manual information The operating manual has some important
instructions on handling the energizer. All technical details in the manual
have been prepared and compiled with the greatest possible care. Even so,
errors cannot be excluded. We wish to point out that we cannot assume any
guarantee, legal responsibility or any liability for consequences attributable
to possible lack of details. We would, at all times, welcome any notification
of possible errors. Safe working depends on the indicated safety and handling
instructions being adhered to. Also to be adhered to are those local accident
prevention provisions which are in force where the energizer is used as well
as the general safety requirements. The operating manual is to be studied
carefully before any work begins! As an integral part of the overall product
it is to be securely kept right next to the energizer and for ease of
consultation by the personnel. Do hand over this manual should this product be
sold or passed on to another party. For a better understanding of what is
involved, some of the diagrams in this manual may not be true-to-scale and may
deviate slightly from the actual constructional design.
Description and Construction of the Product
The energizer transmits voltage pulses to a connected pasture fence. Switching
the energizer on and off (and changing between various operating modes) is
undertaken by a push button 1 .
Caution! Only the optional additional parts prescribed by the
manufacturer are to be used.
Installation
Set up the energizer at a preferably moist location. The earthing rod must be
driven as deeply as possible into the ground at a moist location and connected
by a high-voltage resistant connecting cable to the black earthing terminal (
) of the energizer. Connect the high-voltage resistant fence cable to the red
terminal with the lightning symbols . The energizer is only protected against
moisture if it is properly installed. Shield the energizer from direct solar
irradiation. Set the energizer up in a location where there is no firehazard.
Solar panel installation ( <=20W):
Fasten the optional solar panel with the retaining plate at the energizer. The
energizer has an incorporated solar charge regulator (when the energizer is
switched on). Feed the cable into the housing through the cable inlet onthe
back of the energizer and connect in the housing lid. Make sure that the
polarity is correct. Trouble-free solar operation is only possible in
connection with a 12 V rechargeable battery! Align the energizer with the
solar panel toface south. Use the lateral knurled nuts to determine and fix
the alignment and angle position of the solar panel. Operation with the solar
panel means you cannot operate it with a mains adapter.
Earthing:
Good earthing of the fence is extremely important for trouble-free operation
and optimum performance of the energizer; therefore it should be earthed at a
preferably moist and overgrown location. If the ground is dry and the fence is
long, an additional earth conductor with intermediate earths (every 50 m)
should be installed along the fence.
Installation with a 12V rechargeable battery:
Connect the 12V rechargeable battery (red + / black -), ensure clean pole
terminals and correct polarity. If the polarity is incorrect, a fuse is
triggered to protect the unit. This fusemay only be replaced by qualified
persons.
CAUTION!
Only use rechargeable 12 V batteries; only charge rechargeable batteries with
ventilation in well-ventilated rooms. Disconnect the rechargeable battery from
the energizer during the charging process. The rechargeable battery should be
recharged before and after every use as well as during longer periods of
storage (every 2 months) and disconnected from the energizer.
Installation with a 230V/110V mains adapter:
For the operation of 230V power supply only use the mains adapter 47PSU0010EU
/UK /US, as specified on the intermediate plate in the device! Connect the
mains adapter with the energizer, as described in, via the mains connection.
With the mains adapter it is easy to charge a connected 12 V rechargeable
battery in parallel operation. If the 230 V/110V supply fails, the energizer
is then supplied from the rechargeable battery.
Installation with 230V/110V: Insert the energizer’s mains plug into the power socket.
Commissioning
Switch on the energizer with the push button 1 . Keep the button pressed for
longer than 2 seconds to switch on/off. An LED test (LEDs 2 – 9, from left to
right) starts after 1 second. After this test, all LEDs go out and after 1
second you will hear a rhythmic even ticking of the pulses; the energizer is
in operation. The energizer transmits pulses to the fence and the LED display
lights up. If none of the LEDs light up (not even the status LED ), the 12 V
rechargeable battery is depleted or the energizer or the 110-230 V mains
adapter is defective.
Optimal Solar Alignment and Setting
The correct placement of the pasture fencer and the solar panel is crucial for
the best possible operation of the energizer.
-
Position the pasture fencer so that the panel points south.
This positioning enables the panel to absorb a maximum amount of sunlight even during the few light winter days When placing the energizer, consider the position of the sun throughout the day and avoid a location which could cover the energizer with shade from trees, bushes or high grass. -
Determine the correct angle of inclination for the solar panel.
The position of the sun above the horizon changes during the seasons. As a general recommendation, an angle of 50 degrees is optimal for long-term use in most parts of Europe. Nevertheless, the angle can be adjusted conditional upon the season to optimize the output of the solar panel for recharging the rechargeable battery (see Fig. below). The steeper the angle ofinclination, the greater the cleaning effect during rain or snow.- Recommended setting angle of the panel
South Europe / North Africa (South CH & A)It may be the case that in winter (except for southern Europe) there are not enough hours of sunshine to fully charge the rechargeable battery.
- Recommended setting angle of the panel
-
Regularly remove any deposits and dirt from the solar panel
This includes removing cut grass, dust (specifically along gravel paths), leaves and snow, since these can reduce the performance of the module for recharging the rechargeable battery. Only check the rechargeable battery indicator in solar operation at dawn (without sunlight).- WARNING: Do not leave the switched off pasture fencer in the sun with a rechargeable battery and a solar panel for a longer period. Why? This could damage the rechargeable battery.

Energizer Operating Description
The energizer is in the “Normal” mode the first time that it is switched on. If the energizer is switched off or the rechargeable battery is changed, then the energizer continues to run in the last set mode. Solar operation: The solar panel produces electricity as soon as it is exposed to usable sunlight. The pasture fencer constantly requires electricity – by day as well as by night. The electricity generated in this way by the panel is stored in a rechargeable 12V battery, which means the energizer can operate without sunlight or can be supplied directly by a 12V battery. The solar panel may not always have a sufficiently large output to fully recharge a rechargeable battery – especially in dark, grey and misty months (e.g. October to February). The energizer is operated primarily from the solar panel. If the solar panel does not have sufficient output, the energizer switches automatically to the 12 volt rechargeable battery. Rechargeable battery indicator: The rechargeable battery indicator (Fig. 5 LED 2) provides information about the rechargeable battery or battery voltage. The solar display lights up constantly in green when the solar panel charging voltage is greater than the voltage of the rechargeable battery/battery. Whilst the solar panel charges the 12V rechargeable battery.
Fence voltage indicator
The 6 LEDs (LED4 – LED9) indicate the fence output voltage in 1000V steps. The
indicator builds up from the left.
For herding security purposes at least 3 LEDs (3000V) should light up
otherwise the voltage is too low. Possible causes:
-
With fence: Marked growth at fence, poor insulators, short-circuit at metal posts, or fence too long
-
Without fence: Device is defective, see Service
-
Power economiser:
A fitted power economiser matches power consumption to the state of the fence. This means less current consumption with well insulated fences and a greater current consumption with poorly insulated fences (leakages due to plant growth, etc.). -
Argutector display:
The 6 LEDs (LEDs 4 to 9) indicate fence insulation by way of the Argutector display in 6 steps. The display builds up from the right. If all 6 LEDs light up, the fence insulation is good and little energy is required to maintain herding security. The fewer the number of lit up LEDs, the poorer the fence insulation is due to leakages (plant growth, branches fallen onto the fence system, short-circuit, poor earthing). Increased energy is required to keep the fence herding-secure.
Various modes can be set with press button 1 . The currently set mode is displayed by pressing the button briefly. All modes can then be selected one by one with each additional button pressing. The mode selected last remains set after exiting the menu. The energizer again shows the fence voltage and Argutector values after 5 seconds.
Table 2
APN (Automatic Power Niveau): The output energy of the energizer is set initially, for instance, to 50% and the actual fence voltage is measured continuously. If the output voltage is below 5,000 V or drops below this value, the energizer gradually increases the output energy until the output voltage is above 5,000 V or the maximum energy of the energizer (100%) is reached. In order to ensure herding security with the lowest possible energy requirement, the output power can also be turned down automatically when the fence voltage is above the minimum herding voltage of 5,000 V. This intelligent control ensures that the set voltage or minimum herding voltage at the energizer of 5,000V is always maintained at the same time as the energizer’s energy requirement is optimized.
POWER Regulator:
The output energy can be set between 50% and 100% of maximum energy with the
POWER regulator. The LEDs of the fence voltage display show the currently set
value during the setting. For example, one lit LED indicates an output energy
of 50%, 3 lit LEDs an output energy of 70% and 6 lit LEDs an output energy of
100%. After 2 seconds this display is extinguished and the last output energy
set is adopted.
Maintenance
Table 13 (12V rechargeable battery)
The rechargeable battery must be recharged at the latest when discharged down
to 80% (only 20% remaining capacity left) to prevent a flat battery. The
rechargeable battery indicator (LED2) lights up: Do note that temperature and
measurement deviation may cause these figures to vary.
Caution!
When using a solar system Only carry out a battery or rechargeable battery
test at start of the day ( no solar power supplied – cover panel )
Disassembly
Disassembly, Dismantling, Storage and Transport
Disassembly, Dismantling
Before starting disassembly:
- Switch off energizer
- Disconnect entire energy supply from the energizer.
- Remove operating/auxiliary materials and any remaining working materials and dispose of in an environmentally-compatible manner.
Then properly clean sub-assemblies and parts and disassemble them in taking
account of the local industrial safety & environmental protection provisions
in force.
Storage, Transport
Ensure that the energizer is both stored and transported only when switched
off.
NOTE! Ensure that rechargeable batteries are stored in ventilated and dry
rooms.
Faults and Repairs
WARNING! Repairs may only be carried out by qualified persons. Only the
spare parts prescribed by the manufacturer may be used. Subject to technical
alterations!
Cycle sequence monitoring
The energizer has a cycle sequence monitoring unit to stop any undue energy
being supplied to the fence, cycle pulses failing and to ensure that herding
security is maintained. The effect of the cycle sequence rate falling to under
1 second or for no pulses to occur for more than 5 seconds is for LED3 to
flash in red. This could be due to lightning strikes, continuous flash-overs
at the fence and a defective energizer. The cycle sequence monitoring unit
operates to attain a preferably high degree of security – and fully
independently of pulse generation. For this reason, the display may be
incorrect under certain operating modes. Send the energizer in for repair if
the cycle sequence monitoring indicates a fault either following an energizer
restart or in the “Normal“ operating mode. The CONTROL LED (LED1) lights up
green when the energizer is working trouble-free. If the LED lights red, there
is a fault.
