The PNI Escort HP 6550 is a versatile CB radio that can be operated as a mobile station in a car or as a base station with a suitable DC power supply. It complies with the latest European CB standards and can be used throughout Europe, provided that the selected CB standard is allowed in the country of use. The radio features various functions such as squelch control, RF gain activation, emergency channel switching, channel and squelch levelchanges, volume control, AM/FM selection (depending on the supported standard), ASQ activation/deactivation, key lock function, and SCAN function. The display shows the selected channel, AM/FM mode, reception/transmission indicator, SCAN function activation, automatic squelch activation, RF gainactivation, and received signal strength indicator. The back panel includes a power supply cable, external speaker connector, and antenna connector.
Product Usage Instructions
Installation
- Before installing the radio, check all accessories and ensure they are present.
- Power the radio using the included cigarette lighter plug. Make sure the voltage is between 12 – 13.8V.
- If the fuse on the power cord is blown, identify and eliminatethe cause before replacing it with a F3A 250V type fuse.
- Double-check all connections to avoid any risk of shortcircuit.
Note: If operating with an AC adapter, use a stabilized radio power supply that can provide at least 2A at 12 – 13.8V DC. Unregulated power supplies or battery chargers are unsuitable and can cause damage. Connect the red lead to the positive (+) terminal of the power supply and the black wire to the negative (-) terminal.
Antenna Connection
To connect the CB antenna:
- Locate the ANT socket on the back of the radio.
- Ensure that the CB antenna is tuned to the CB radio band using an SWR meter. The SWR value should not exceed 2 for optimal radio range.
- A high SWR may indicate defects in the antenna, cable, or a short circuit in the antenna line.
- Never transmit without a connected antenna.
Note: Install the radio antenna away from other antennas and interference sources as much as possible. For best performance, mount CB antennas on the vehicle’s highest part on ametal surface. Fiberglass cabs or plastic wind deflectors requirespecial antennas.
WARNINGS
- Please read the following precautions to prevent fire, personal injury or the radio destruction.
- Do not attempt to adjust the radio while driving; is dangerous.
- This radio is designed for power supply at 13.8V DC. Do not use a 24V battery to power the radio.
- Do not place the station on an excessively dusty, damp or unstable surface.
- Do not connect the antenna during transmission, risk of burning or electric shock.
- Please keep distance from devices that cause interference (such as TV, generator, etc.)
- People who use pacemakers are advised to keep distance from the antenna during transmission and especially not to touch it.
- Do not connect metal objects to the internal electrical side; danger of electric shock.
- Avoid exposing the radio to temperatures below -30°C and above + 80°C, the temperature ona vehicle may sometimes exceed 80°C, which can cause irreparable damage to electric devices.
- Do not expose the radio to sunlight.
- Do not place anything on the radio, it will prevent it from cooling down. Check to see if you have enough charged battery to avoid rapid discharge.
- It is important to stop the radio before starting the engine, to avoid damage caused by highstarting voltage.
- You must use a 2A 250V fuse type F. Under no circumstances use a higher value.
- If an abnormal odor or smoke is detected as coming from the radio, switch off the appliance immediately.
- Do not transmit for a long time, the radio may warm up.
- Keep the station away from children.
OTHER WARNING:
Before connecting or using this product, please read these operating instructions carefully. Keep this manual for future reference. Before using the radio, please connect the antenna, then check the SWR before transmitting. A too high SWR can cause demage to the CB final output transistors, which is not covered by the warranty. The radio does not includes components that can be repaired by the user. Please contact anauthorized service center. To prevent the risk of fire, use only a suitable power supply.

INSTALLATION
Check the radio and all accessories before installing. Power the radio with
the cigarette lighter plug included in the package. The radio must be powered
at a voltage between 12 – 13.8V. The fuse mounted on the power cord protects
the radio against damage caused by technical defects or wrong polarity. If the
fuse is blown, first eliminate the cause and then replace it using the F3A
250V type. Check the connections correctly before starting the radio. Make
sure there is no risk of shortcircuit.
Operation with AC Adapter
Operate your radio only at a stabilized radio power supply, which is capable
to provide at least 2A at 12 -13.8V DC. Unregulated power supplies or battery
chargers are unsuitable and can cause damage. Connect the red lead to the
positive (+) terminal of the power supply, the black wire to the negative (-)
terminal of the power supply.
ANTENNA CONNECTION
Connect the CB antenna to the ANT socket on the back of your radio. The
antenna must be tuned to the CB radio band. For this use a SWR meter. For a
good radio range, the SWR should not exceed a value of 2. A high SWR also
points to defects in antenna, cable, or a short circuit in the antenna line.
Never transmit without a connected antenna!
Note: The radio antenna must be installed away from other antennas and
interference sources as much as possible. CB antennas must be mounted usually
on the vehicule’s highest part, on a metal surface. A sufficiently large metal
surface is essential for the function of the antenna. For installation on a
fiberglass cabs or plastic wind deflectors, special antennas must be used.
OPERATION
- Power On/Off the radio: Turn the radio on by turning the knob [6] clockwise. The current standard, then the selected channel, will appear on the screen for one second. Turn knob [6] anti-clockwise to stop the radio.
