Introduction
In order to keep you connected while off-grid, the T800 two-way radio functions exactly like any other radio by delivering information over radio frequencies. The Motorola Talk about smartphone app provides additional communication choices beyond push-to-talk once your smartphone is Bluetooth- connected to your radio, which is the T800’s key to success. To communicate with other T800 users, the Motorola Talk about software uses the T800 as a modem to relay messages, locations, and more through radio frequencies.
You can communicate and track locations with your travelling partners using the Talk about T800. No issue if there is any cell service. Simply download the TALKABOUT App, pair your smartphone with it via Bluetooth and you can exchange messages, find a friend’s campground, and communicate where you are when off the grid. The Talk About app allows you to adjust your radio settings as well. The T800 features an IPX4 rating and a range of up to 35 miles to keep you connected no matter where your adventures take you, whether you’re skiing, hunting, or at a music festival. Two radios, two NiMH rechargeable batteries, one Y cable charging adaptor with two micro-USB ports, two belt clips, one user manual, and one accessory brochure are all included in the packing for the T800.

Do Motorola T800 work
The T800 two-way radio functions similarly to any other radio, sending data through radio waves to keep you connected even when you’re not connected to the internet. The Motorola Talk about smartphone software enables you to communicate in methods other than push-to-talk after your smartphone is paired with your radio through Bluetooth.
Not working Motorola walkie-talkie
Try detaching and rejoining the speaker mic or turning the radio off and back on if it is stuck in transmit mode. Return to the proper channel if the problem is with the channel. If you keep a spare battery and a charger on hand, dead batteries won’t be a problem.
Frequently Asked Questions
When off grid can you text anyone or just people within 35 miles who are off grid with the same radio?
There are certainly many different choices available to folks regarding radio choices. Many consumers, however, fall into the trap of believing the misleading advertising that various manufacturer’s use to help sell their products, especially when they are in panic mode due to a natural disaster (like an earthquake) or (currently) various lock-down scenarios due to the latest overseas virus.
Is it required internet service (data/wifi) when send/receive messages?
No. You will be sending / receiving location data and text messages via the radios.
Can it charge with just a regular micro usb cable?
Yes. The charger actually is dual micro USB with a 110v plug.
Can you connect 2 pairs of 2 to each other? Would the four of them be able to talk to one another?
If you are asking how many walkies can communicate with each other, the answer is an unlimited number. Walkie Talkies like this are not paired to each other, they broadcast radio signals and any other walkie talkie on the same channel can receive that signal and respond.
Can someone tell me why voice range is 35mi and data only 20mi? I know that data (digital) range is much better than voice (analog).
Data works in “packets” that a certain amount has to be readable to be understood by the receiving unit. 20 miles is probably the distance where the “keys” start to not be recognizable. Analog voice can still get deciphered with static unlike data
Are they waterproof?
I bought these a few weeks ago and have used them for some outdoor activities. These radios are not waterproof. However, the specifications suggest that they can be used in wet weather.
Does the app allow you to transmit and receive from your phone when it’s connected to the radio via bluetooth?
Yes
Anyone know is there any Wifi (non-sim card) walkie talkie? I need to use in high rise building.
Yes, it’s called a smartphone. Use Facebook messenger or Skype.
Does this have gmrs repeater channels?
It does not unfortunately.
Is there enough light from the display to see the buttons in the dark?
Yes, radios have a bright blue led display in dark black background. great buy, if uuyou download the “Talkabout” app and pair with bluetooth to your phone, you can text with other phones (paired with other talkabout radios) even if there is no service, the radio serves as a modem between phones.
Will these work in other countries?
Only if you’re both in the same country. The signal stops at the border. Something to do with customs I suppose.
What the actual watt — per motorola it is 2 watts, per fcc is 750 mw, who to believe?
This radio contains multiple transceivers. One transceiver will be for radio to radio communication. That is listed at 2 watts on fcc.gov but only on certain channels! Read your manual to see which channels allow the full 2watt output. A second transceiver for Bluetooth is 2.51mw for communication between your phone and the radio. I got my numbers directly from the fcc.gov website. If the domain of the website you are using does not end with fcc.gov it is not the really FCC.
Why do the LED display light stay on when the power off?
Should be off, these even have stealth mode so you can turn the lights off while they are on and in use.
Do these take double AA’s too? And do you need a license, what’s the max range on these in a city with hills, buildings?
They do run on AA batteries. As for the range it’s highly dependent on the terrain. I can tell you the range around my house in Florida does not seem to be all that good. Maybe 1,000 yards is all I could get playing with them. I don’t know about the license. I am told you do not need one.
Can you use a phone earbud/mic combo through the app? Like, can talk through an earbud/mic through your phone, which then sends through the t800?
No, it had it own earbud for these items.
