Safety Notes

General Power Tool Safety Warnings
WARNING Read all safety warnings and all instructions.
Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fi re and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
Work area safety

  • Keep work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres. such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.
Power tools create sparks that may ignile dust or fumes.

  • Keep children and bystanders a way while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical safety

  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet.
Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce therisk of electric shock.

  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

  • Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

  • When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Tus use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

  • If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

  • Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

  • Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to the power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising  power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

  • Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

  • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

  • If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. The Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

  • Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

Power tool use and care

  • Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application.
The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

  • Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

  • Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments ,changing accessories, or storing power tools.
Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

  • Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

  • Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.

  • Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

  • Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits, etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended  could result in a hazardous situation.

  • Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease.

  • Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

Plasma Cutting Machine Safety
Electromagnetic Compatibility Instruction
Before installing and operating the welding equipment, the user must evaluate the possible electromagnetic effects on the surrounding area in the immediate vicinity. Pay attention to:

  • Other network cables, cables and control wires, telephone and security cables in the vicinity of the welding equipment and / or in the immediate vicinity of the welding work.
  • Radio and television receivers and transmitters. Computers and other offi ce equipment.
  • Equipment responsible for the safety of production facilities.
  • Devices related to the health of the surrounding people (eg pacemakers, hearing aids).
  • Electronic instrumentation.

Burn protection

  • Sparks, slag, hot metal and arc radiation can cause serious damage to eyes and skin, and the closer a person is to the welding arc, the more serious injury can be.
  • Therefore, both the welder and other people in the welding area must have appropriate protective equipment.
  • We strongly recommend the use of headgear, welder’s gloves/gaiters, a flame retardant suit/jacket and pants, boots/boots that must cover all areas of the body.

Electric shock protection

  • Any electric shock can be fatal, so always avoid touching exposed conductive parts.
  • Use insulating mats and gloves; clothes should always be dry.
  • Avoid cutting in places with excessive moisture.
  • Ground the equipment in accordance with electrical and safety regulations.
  • When replacing the cable, or when removing the cover from the device, be sure to disconnect the device from the mains.

Respiratory protection

  • The smoke and gas generated during plasma cutting are hazardous to health.
  • The cutting area must be well ventilated.
  • Metals containing or coated with lead, cadmium, zinc, mercury and beryllium can release toxic gases in hazardous concentrations when exposed to a plasma arc.
  • If it is necessary to cut such materials, it is necessary to have exhaust ventilation or personal respiratory protection to ensure filtration or supply of clean air.
  • If the coating of such metals cannot be removed from the welding site and there are no protective equipment, it is strictly forbidden to cut.

Radiation protection

  • The ultraviolet radiation from the plasma arc can cause irreparable harm to the eyes and skin; therefore be sure to use a welding helmet / visor and protective clothing.
  • The mask must be fully functional, otherwise it must be replaced, as the radiation from the plasma arc can harm the eyes.
  • It is dangerous to look at the arc with unprotected eyes at a distance of less than 15 meters. Measures must be taken to protect people in or near the work area.

Fire explosion safety

  • Make sure that fire extinguishing media (fire extinguisher, water, sand, etc.) are available in the near welding area.
  • All flammable, explosive materials must be removed at a minimum distance of 10 meters from the worksite.
  • Never cut open containers containing toxic or potentially explosive substances (for example, a gas tank of a car) – in such cases, thorough preliminary cleaning of the container must be carried out.
  • Never carry out cutting work in an atmosphere with a high concentration of dust, flammable gas or vapors of flammable liquids.
  • After each operation, make sure that the product has cooled down sufficiently before touching it with your hands or with flammable/explosive materials.

Electronic life support devices

  • People using life-supporting electronic devices (eg, pacemakers) are strongly advised to consult with their physician before  carrying out or in the immediate vicinity of plasma cutting.
  • The correct functioning of the equipment is only guaranteed when connected correctly.
  • Make sure the line voltage is within the supply voltage range marked on the equipment.
  • Always use protective earth.

Product Description and Specifications
Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fi re and/or serious injury.
Intended Use
PCUT40-C can be widely applied to cut carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum alloy,  copper and other non-ferrous metals. It is a highly efficient portable inverter air plasma cutting machine that provides stable operation with low power consumption.
Installation of air plasma cutting consists of two parts: a plasma torch (cutter) and a power source.
The plasmatron is the main part and working tool of the system, it creates a high-temperature plasma jet, obtained by compressing the arc with passing air. The source provides a stabilized cutting current and voltage supplied to the plasma torch. Air supplied from the compressor is used as the plasma-forming gas. The inverter of the installation converts the operating frequency of the 50/60 Hz network into a frequency of up to 100 kHz with high effi ciency, after conversion it produces a constant cutting current of high power. Compared to traditional plasma cutting power supplies, inverter technology significantly reduces the weight and size of the main transformer, while increasing efficiency  compared to conventional installations.

Equipment connection

  • Connect the nut of the plasma torch main cable to the connection socket on the front panel of the device. Check and, if necessary, replace the working consumable parts of the plasmatron: cathode, nozzle, diffuser, protective cap. When installing the cathode and guard, do not use tools – a little finger force is sufficient. Attention! Disassemble the plasma torch only with the device turned off. Make sure that the parts of the torch are cool!
  • Connect the control cable from the plasma torch button to the front panel connector.
  • Connect the hose from the compressor/ compressed air system to the inlet of the supplied gas reducer-dryer (air preparation unit). Set the pressure on the pressure gauge of the reducer-dryer to 0.5 MPa.
  • Connect the grounding cable insert to the connector on the front panel of the device, and fasten the earth clamp to the part. Make sure there is good electrical contact between the clamp and the part.
  • Ground the part and the body of the device. If possible, check with a voltmeter whether the supply voltage is correct. Make sure there are no cuts or breaks in all cables and sleeves. Connect the mains plug to the mains socket.

Beginning of work

  • Turn on the power with the power switch on the back of the machine to the “On” position.
  • Set the cutting current according to the thickness of the part to be cut.
  • To check, briefly press the button on the plasma torch – the valve should open.
  • Touch the part with the nozzle, press the button on the plasma torch, after the arc has ignited, start cutting.

Special features when working with compressed air
The used compressed air from the compressor must have a pressure of at least 6 atmospheres (bar) (0.6 MPa) with a minimum flow rate of 200 l /min.
If the air is supplied from a compressor or central system, the regulator must be set to the maximum outlet pressure, which, however, must not exceed 8 atmospheres (bar) (0.8 MPa).
If the air is supplied from a compressed air cylinder, the compressed air cylinder must be equipped with a pressure regulator.
A common problem with many budget compressors is that small-bore fittings and adapters are installed at the compressor outlet, which, at high air flow rates, leads to a pressure drop.
This can be avoided by connecting the hose, not to the outlet of the compressor, but directly to the receiver (for many models, this requires removing the plug on the side and inserting a fitting instead; however, it is not recommended to  use the plug at the bottom to remove condensate for this).
The compressed air cylinder must never be directly connected to the inlet of the plasma system, only through a reducer-dryer!

Cutting tips

  • While cutting, move the torch perpendicular to the surface to be cut.
  • If it is necessary to burn through a hole (“breakdown”), tilt the torch slightly to reduce the risk of backspatter and their adhesion to the torch nozzle. In case of frequent breakdowns of holes, promptly clean the nozzle from adhering metal. It should be remembered that ignition of the arc “for breakdown” reduces the service life of the nozzle, cathode and protective cap.
  • If you place a bath with water under the product, you can almost completely remove the harmful effects of smoke and metal splashes.
  • If the arc does not strike well, check that the grounding clamp has a good contact (check for paint, oil, dirt, rust at the connection point).
  • If the arc “breaks” during cutting, the arc burns unstably – check the air pressure on the reducer-dryer, as a rule, the most stable result is given by an operating pressure of 0.5 MPa. However, depending on the productivity, cutting thickness, you can increase the pressure, while monitoring the stability of the work. The best cutting result and minimum wear on the nozzle and cathode will be at maximum pressure, but if the arc begins to break, reduce the pressure on the reducer until the breaks stop.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES! Any connection and disconnection of the connectors and contacts of the plasma torch, grounding cable, mains cable during cutting is prohibited, this can cause harm to both human health and equipment.

Operating conditions

  • Operation of this unit should be carried out in relatively dry air, humidity not more than 80%.
  • The ambient temperature should be between -10 and 40 ° C.
  • Avoid working in the rain, do not expose to water or raindrops.
  • Avoid working in dusty or airy environments with corrosive gases. Do not allow conductive dust from the plasma jet to enter the interior of the apparatus.
  • Operating beyond the specifi ed conditions or prolonged operation at maximum currents can damage the unit, therefore pay attention to the following:
    – Make sure the fans are not blocked or covered. The distance between the devices and the surrounding objects (wall, partition, etc.) must be at least 0.3 m.
    – If the working time at the set current exceeds the calculated one, the machine can go into protection mode and stop working. This triggers the overheating indicator on the front panel. Under these circumstances, it is not necessary to disconnect the unit from the mains in order for the fan to continue to operate. When the temperature drops to working temperature, the indicator will turn off and you can continue working.
    – Avoid high input voltage and power surges!

Maintenance and Service

Maintenance and Cleaning
ATTENTION: All maintenance and inspection work must be carried out with the power supply disconnected. Make sure the network cable is unplugged before you open the case.

  • Use dry, clean compressed air to periodically remove dust from the machine.
If the machine is operated in a highly  polluted environment, clean it twice a month.

  • Be careful when blowing out – strong air pressure can damage small parts of the machine.

  • Check the condition of the terminals and contacts inside the device: if there is rust or loose contacts, use sandpaper to remove rust or oxides, and re-fix them.

  • Do not allow water or steam to enter the interior of the machine. If this happens, dry and then measure the resistance between the case and the current-carrying elements. Do not continue work until you are sure that there are no  atypical phenomena.

  • If the device is not used for a long time, place it in a box, store it in a dry place.
