WARMUP AND COOL DOWN

TO PREVENT INJURIES, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS WARM-UP AND COOL-DOWN WITH VARIOUS STRETCHES BEFORE AND AFTER

EACH WORKOUT.
WE RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING STRETCHES, WHICH WILL REDUCE
THE RISK OF ANY MUSCLE INJURY OR SPASM DURING EXERCISE.
NEVER OVERSTRETCH OR PULL YOUR MUSCLES.

SIDE BENDS

Pass one arm up and over your head, bending your upper body in the same direction. Hold this position for 10 to 15 seconds and slowly straighten yourself back up. Repeat this 3 times for each side.

TOE TOUCH

Slowly bend forward from your waist, letting your back and shoulders relax as you stretch towards your toes. Reach down as far as you can go and hold for 15 seconds. Then relax and repeat 3 times.

CALF-ACHILLES STRETCH

Lean against a wall with your left leg in front of the right and your arms on the wall. Keep your right leg straight and your left foot on the floor, bend the left leg and lean forward by moving your hips toward the wall. Hold, then repeat on the other leg for 15 seconds. Repeat 3 times for each leg.

QUADRICEPS STRETCH

With one hand against a wall for balance, reach behind you and pull your right foot up. Bring your heel as close to your buttocks. Hold for 10-15 seconds. Repeat three times for each foot.

INNER THIGH STRETCH

Sit with the soles of your feet together and your knees pointing outwards. Pull your feet as close to your groin as possible. Gently push your knees towards the floor. Hold for 15 seconds. Then relax and repeat 3 times.

ROWING EXERCISES

USING YOUR ROWING MACHINE REGULARLY WILL:
Improve your overall physical fitness, strengthening the heart and improving circulation as well as exercising all the major muscle groups: the back, waist, arms, shoulders, hips and legs.
Tone your muscles & in conjunction with a calorie-controlled diet: it will help you lose weight. Rowing is an extremely effective form of exercise.

THE BASIC ROWING STROKE
Sit on the saddle and fasten your feet to the pedals using the straps.
Then take hold of the rowing bar.

  • Take up the starting position, leaning forward with your arms straight and knees bent as shown in Fig 1.
  • Push yourself backwards, straightening your back and legs at the same time Fig 2.
  • Continue this movement until you are leaning slightly backwards, during this stage you should bring your arms out of the side Fig 3. Then return to stage 2 and repeat.

TRAINING

Rowing is a strenuous form of exercise, so it’s best to start training with low resistance and for short periods if you are a beginner. As you progress, you can increase the resistance and training time to suit your needs and fitness goals. We recommend you begin training on alternate days, approx. 3 times a week to give your body time to recover between workouts.

ARMS ONLY ROWING

This rowing style will tone the muscles in your arms, shoulders, back and stomach. Sit as shown in Fig 4 with your legs straight, lean forward and grasp the handles. In a gradual and controlled manner lean back to just past the upright position continuing to pull the handles towards your chest. Return to the starting position and repeat.

LEGS ONLY ROWING

This exercise will tone the muscles in your legs and back. With your back straight and arms stretched out, bend your legs until you are grasping the rowing arm handles in the starting position, Fig 7. Use your legs to push your body back whilst keeping your arms and back straight.

MUSCLE TONING

The most effective way to tone your muscles while rowing is to set a high resistance while being mindful not to cause any injury by over-exerting your muscles. We recommend always warming up and cooling down at a light resistance and choosing to increase your resistance in the final part of your training when your muscles have warmed up properly.

WEIGHT LOSS

The more effort you put into your rowing workouts, the more calories you will burn. Look to gradually increase the resistance, duration and effort you put into each workout, as these factors will assist you in losing weight.
