USB cable
We recommend using a USB 2.0 cable (Type A/B) that is no more than 6 feet
(2 meters) long.
Network cable (HL-L3230CDN / HL-L3230CDW / HL-L3270CDW)
Use a straight-through Category 5 (or greater) twisted-pair cable.
- The illustrations in this Quick Setup Guide show the HL-L3230CDW.
- This machine’s Reference Guide is either printed for you or is available on the Brother Installation Disc included in the carton.
Remove the packing materials and re-install the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly
- Remove all the blue packing tape.
- Slide all eight yellow drum locks.
- Remove the orange part from each cartridge.
Load paper in the paper tray
Connect the power cord and turn the machine on
Select your language
(if needed)
- For LCD models
- Press ▼ or ▲ to select [Initial Setup], and then press OK.
- Press ▼ or ▲ to select [Local Language], and then press OK.
- Press ▼ or ▲ to select your language, and then press OK.
- Press Cancel.
For Touchscreen models

On the machine’s Touchscreen, press [Settings] > [All Settings] >
[Initial Setup] > [Local Language]. -

Select a device to connect to your machine
Computer
Go to 6 and follow the instructions.
NOTE

We recommend configuring wireless settings from your computer.

Go to 7 and follow the instructions.
Connect your computer

Put the installation disc into your CD/DVD drive, or download the Full Driver & Software Package at:

If you are using a recently released operating system on your computer, visit the above websites for updated driver and software information.
Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts.
For Windows®:
If the Brother screen does not appear automatically, go to Computer (This PC).
Double-click the CD/DVD-ROM icon, and then double-click start.exe.
For Mac:
For full driver functionality, we recommend choosing the CUPS driver when
adding a printer.

For Network Users:
The best practice is to configure a unique admin password for any network
device. We recommend changing the default Web-Based Management password, init
pass, in order to use network tools/utilities securely.
Can’t Connect? Check the following:
Alternative wireless setup
Find your SSID (Network Name) and Network Key (Password) on your wireless access point/ router and write them in the table provided below.
Even if you do not have a wireless access point/router, you can connect your device and your machine directly. For additional wireless network support, go to support.brother.com/wireless-support
For LCD models
To select each menu option, press ▲ or ▼, and then press OK to confirm.
Select [Network] > [WLAN] > [Setup Wizard].
Print using your mobile device
Your mobile device must be connected to the same wireless network as your Brother machine.
Brother SupportCenter is a mobile app that provides the latest support information for your Brother product. Visit the App Store or Google Play™ to download.
AirPrint is available for all supported iOS devices including iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. You do not need to download any software to use AirPrint. For more information, see the Online User’s Guide.
Download and install the Mopria® Print Service app from Google Play™ using your Android™ device.
Download and install our free application Brother iPrint&Scan from a mobile application store, such as the App Store, Google Play™, or Microsoft® Store using your mobile device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this printer leave roller tracks on the print?
You need to replace the imaging unit. These Brother printers take both toner and an imaging unit/drum. It was frustrating at first, but I'm used to it now. I have the black-and-white version. I have to replace the imaging unit about twice a year when it starts with those roller marks on the outer edges.
What is the maximum card stock thickness that this printer can handle?
The maximum thickness the Brother HL-L3210CW can handle is 43 lbs. from the manual feed slot.
Does this printer support wpa2 aes-based ccmp encryption?
The Brother HLL3210CW does support WPA2-PSK with AES encryption.
Does this also make copies and let you scan documents?
The Brother HLL3210CW does not support scanning or copying. This model is a standalone printer.
Do you need color toner for color pages or does the black toner print color pages?
Yes, the Brother HL-L3210CW requires black and color toner to print black and color pages.
What is the difference between a brother laser printer, and a brother printer that provides 'laser printer quality results'?
The Brother HLL3210CW uses color laser print technology, which in comparison to inkjet print technology does not have nearly as many color options. Also, inkjet print technology is designed for photo printing; while color laser print technology is not. There is no different technology in laser printing.
Do I have to seal it for waterslides?
Waterslides are NOT normally made on inkjet printers as someone mentioned below. They can be done on either type of printer (laser or inkjet) you just need to get the correct waterslide paper. I prefer laser as you don't need to seal the slides like you do with an inkjet.
There was nothing in the box that had a wps pin. how to connect?
The WPS pin is provided by your router/network provider. The Brother HLL3210CW machine can be connected to the network with the Wireless setup Wizard available when installing the drivers or using the control panel.
Will this work on a Mac running High Sierra?
Yes, the Brother HL-L3210CW printer is compatible with Mac computers running Mac OS High Sierra.
Can this printer print white color images on black paper?
Yes, this printer is capable of printing white images on black paper.
Is this a laser printer ? It says digital
Yes, It’s a digital laser printer.
Can you connect multiple laptops to this printet?
Yes, you can connect multiple devices to the Brother HLL3210CW printer. We recommend using a WiFi connection in order to do it.
