Basic safety instructions
To ensure safe operation of the appliance, follow the safety guidelines set
out below:
- Prior to use, check the appliance for visible external damage. Do not use an appliance that has been damaged or dropped.
- To prevent accidents, have defective plugs and/or power cables replaced immediately by an authorised specialist, or our Customer Service or a similarly qualified person.
- This appliance may be used by children of the age of 8 years or more and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and/or knowledge if they are being supervised or have been instructed with regard to the safe use of the appliance and have understood the potential risks.
- Children must not be allowed to play with the appliance.
- Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by children unless they are older than 8 years of age and are supervised.
- Children younger than 8 years of age are to be kept away from the appliance and the power cable.
- All repairs must be carried out by authorised specialist companies or by the Customer Service department. Improper repairs may put the user at risk. They will also invalidate any warranty claim.
- Defective components must always be replaced with genuine replacement parts. Compliance with safety requirements can only be guaranteed if original replacement parts are used.
- Protect the mains cable from contact with hot appliance parts. Never use the appliance near naked flames, a hotplate or a heated oven.
- Set up the appliance as close as possible to an electrical power socket. Make sure that the power plug is quickly reachable in case of danger and that there is no danger of tripping over the cable.
- Provide a stable location for the appliance.
DANGER! ELECTRIC SHOCK!
- The appliance should only be connected to a correctly installed and earthed mains power socket. Ensure that the rating for your local power supply corresponds with the details on the rating plate of the appliance.
- Arrange for Customer Services to repair or replace connecting cables and/or appliances that are not functioning properly or have been damaged.
- Do not expose the appliance to rain, and never use it in a humid or wet environment.
- Make sure that the power cable does not get wet or damp during use.
- Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids! There is a risk of a potentially fatal electric shock if residual moisture comes into contact with live components during operation.
- Always take hold of the plug when handling the power cable. Do not pull on the cable itself and never touch the power cable with wet hands, as this could result in either a short circuit or an electric shock.
- Do not place the appliance itself, furniture items or similar objects on the power cable and make sure it cannot become jammed or trapped in any way.
- Do not open the appliance housing or attempt to repair or modify the appliance. Opening the housing and/or making improper modifications increases the risk of a potentially fatal electric shock and will invalidate the warranty.
- Protect the appliance from drips or splashes of water. Do not place any vessels containing liquid (e.g. flower vases) on or near the appliance.
- Always pull the plug out of the power socket during each break in use, as well as after use and before any cleaning.

- Heating element
- Drip tray
- Housing
- 4 cooking grill fixtures (top/bottom)
- Heat level control
- Operating light
Setting up
-
When using the appliance for the first time, clean all accessories as described in the section Cleaning.
-
Set up the housing 4 in accordance with the safety instructions.
-
Place the drip tray 3 into the housing 4 so that the recess in the edge faces towards the front (see fold-out page).
-
Fill the drip tray 3 with approx. 1 litre of cold water up to the MAX mark.
-
Place the heating element 2 into the housing 4 so that the heat level control 6 faces forwards. Make sure that the pin on the housing 4 is inserted into the corresponding opening on the heating element 2.
NOTE
► The heating element 2 is fitted with a safety switch. The appliance can only be started if this is inserted correctly. -
Place the cooking grill 1 on the housing 4 so that the four feet are in the respective cooking grid fixtures 5. You can choose between two settings:
– If your food is to be cooked quickly at a high temperature, place the cooking grill 1 in the deeper left half of the fixtures 5. This setting is particularly suitable for thin foods, such as shrimps or thin steak, and for searing meat.
– Place the cooking grill 1 in the right, higher halves if your food is to be cooked slowly or kept warm. This setting is recommended for grilling sensitive foods such as vegetables or fish or for thicker foods.
NOTE
► In general, thin foods should be cooked hot and quickly. The thicker the food, the more gently and slowly it should be grilled so that it does not burn on the outside and is evenly cooked through. -
Plug the mains plug into an easily accessible mains socket.
-
For first use only: Turn the heat level control 6 to MAX and let the appliance heat up for approx. 15 minutes without food. The operating light 7 lights up to show that the appliance is heating up.
NOTE
► The operating light 7 switches off as soon as the selected temperature level has been reached.
► The operating light 7 may switch on and off several times during this process. This is not a malfunction of the appliance! It merely indicates that the appliance is maintaining the temperature.
► The thermostat only operates from the beginning of the temperature setting scale. Depending on the room temperature, heating up will start at different positions on the scale.
► When the appliance is heated up for the first time, the protective layer on the heating element 2 burns off. You may notice a small amount of smoke and a slight smell. This is normal and dissipates after a short time. Ensure that there is adequate ventilation. For example, open a window.
The appliance is now ready for use.
Grilling
WARNING!
- To prevent the appliance from overheating, do not place any materials such as aluminium foil, aluminium trays, plates or the like on the cooking grill 1. There is a risk of fire!
- Never operate the appliance without sufficient water in the drip tray 3; otherwise, it may overheat. There is a risk of fire! See section “Topping up the water”.
- The surfaces of the appliance become very hot during use. During operation, touch the appliance only on the heat level control 6 or on the side handles. There is a risk of burns!
-
Proceed as described in the section “Setting up” (steps 2–7).
-
Turn the heat level control 6 to MAX and let the appliance heat up for approx. 5 minutes without food.
-
After preheating, set the heat level control 6 for the desired use:
– Choose a high or the highest setting for cooking thin grill food or for searing meat. Grill it for a few minutes at maximum temperature on both sides and then adjust the heat to a lower setting to ensure gentle cooking.
– Choose a medium or low setting for gentle further cooking of the food or for slow cooking delicate foods such as vegetables or fish.
– To keep ready-cooked food warm, select a low temperature setting right at the beginning of the scale.
NOTE
► The operating light 7 goes out as soon as the selected temperature has been reached.
► The operating light 7 may come on and go out several times during this process. This is not a malfunction of the appliance! It merely indicates that the appliance is maintaining the set temperature.
► The thermostat only operates from the beginning of the temperature setting scale. Depending on the room temperature, heating up will start at different positions on the scale. -
Tip: Oil the cooking grill 1 with a little vegetable oil so that the food does not stick to the cooking grill 1.
-
Place the food directly on the cooking grill 1 and turn it over occasionally.
Topping up the water
As soon as the water level falls below the MIN mark after extended use, top up
the water. It is not necessary to remove the cooking grill 1 or the heating
element 2 to do this. Proceed as follows:
-
Remove the plug from the mains power socket.
CAUTION! PROPERTY DAMAGE!
► Do not pour water over the hot heating elements, as this could damage them. -
Carefully pour the water into the drip tray 3 close to the edge of the cooking grill 1 until it reaches the MAX marking.
After grilling
- Turn the heat level control 6 to 0 and remove the plug from the power socket.
- Allow the appliance to cool down, remove the cooking grill 1 and the heating element 2 and carefully pour out the water from the drip tray 3.
- Clean all accessories as described in the section Cleaning.
Cleaning
DANGER! ELECTRIC SHOCK!
- Always pull out the plug before cleaning the appliance!
- Never immerse the heating element 2 in water or other liquids!
