Product Information:
The RTU-4000 is a test platform designed to constantly evolve to keep up with new applications and advanced capabilities. It is equipped with factory- installed modules (RTU-4100) that can be upgraded to their respective versions through firmware/software updates available on www.veexinc.com.

The RTU-4000/4100 is designed to operate in standalone mode or in a centralized monitoring system such as VeSion. It supports access to the standalone management web-interface over HTTPS and all communications with VeSion server can be secured using the mTLS encryption scheme. Both the web- interface and the mTLS certificate can be obtained from the RFC7030 compatible server.

Product Usage Instructions

To keep the RTU-4000/4100 up to date, download the full upgrade packages from www.veexinc.com and follow the software upgrade procedure mentioned at the end of the user manual. Please note that Probe Configuration Tool 1.5.0 or later is required for software version 02.01.0000 and Probe Configuration Tool 1.4.7 or later is required for software version 01.00.0009.

If connecting via serial interface, the Serial-to-USB driver will need to be installed on PC. Additionally, all test modules (RTU4100) must be upgraded to their respective versions to assure compatibility.

The RTU-4000/4100 can operate in standalone mode or in a centralized monitoring system such as VeSion. For VeSion, the Vesion Server version should be 4.3.3.25515, Vesion RTU410 Server should be version 4.3.0.25515, and VeSion HTML5 Web should be version 7.0.9547. For software version 01.00.0009, all test modules (RTU4100) must be upgraded to their respective 01.02.0040 versions to assure compatibility.

For software version 02.00.0001, it is required for compatibility with new major RTU-4100 module release 02.00.xxxx to support newer and faster host CPU in newly-shipped platform and test modules. IPV6 support is added in this version.

Please note that software version 02.00.0001 is limited to new RTU-4000/4100 units shipped since January 2022 and is currently under regression and beta testing for modules shipped prior to 2022.

Major Release. General availability

Note: Probe Configuration Tool 1.5.0 or later is required for this version to install/upgrade all RTU software. The Serial-to-USB driver will need to be installed on PC if connecting via serial interface. All test modules (RTU-4100) must be upgraded to their respective 02.04.0000 versions to assure compatibility.
RTU-4000/4100 is designed to operate in Standalone mode or in a centralized monitoring system such as VeSion which requires:

  • Vesion Server version: 4.3.3.25515
  • Vesion RTU410 Server: version 4.3.0.25515
  • VeSion HTML5 Web: version 7.0.9547

General features:

  1. Supports access to the standalone management web-interface over HTTPS.

Updating the RTU4000/4100 System Software using the Probe Configuration Tool

Warning: The system update procedure reformats the platform’s internal storage and all results and profiles are erased. Please follow the Section 16.0 procedure documented in the RTU4000/4100 User manual. Remember to save all important files prior to updating the system software.
Once you have obtained and uncompressed the update package files (install_rtu4000_platform.sh for the Platform and install_rtu4100_otdr.sh for the OTDR module), the software update procedure can be performed using the Probe Configuration Tool application. VeEX, Inc. will provide VeSion upgrade software to any customer with a current, active software maintenance license. Contact VeEX CustomerCare to renew your license if it has expired and to get the latest VeSion system software.

Note: If installed in your PC, some file compression agents (applications) may show the resulting file as a compressed SH file, but there is no need to expand the file anymore. Keep it as is.

The RTU-4000 must be connected to the power supply (using AC adapter or -48 VDC) during the entire upgrade process. DO NOT turn it off at any time during the upgrade process.

  • Open the Probe Configuration Tool application.

  • Follow the upgrading procedure described in Section 16.1 of the RTU-4000/RTU-4100 User Manual.

  • First, install the platform software.
    Warning: The system update procedure reformats the platform’s internal storage and all results and profiles are erased. Please save all important files prior to updating the system software.

    Note: The module software must be re-installed after any Platform software upgrade has occurred even if no upgrade is required for the module.

  • Reconnect to RTU-4000 using Probe Configuration Tool to check that the software was properly installed.
