VeEX RTU-600x Module Remote Test Unit

RTU-600x Module (QSFP28/SFP28) Product Information

The RTU-600x module is a component of the RTU-300 test platform, designed to constantly evolve and keep up with new applications and advanced capabilities. It can operate in Standalone mode or in a centralized monitoring system such as VeSion. The module requires
RTU-300 Platform version 03.03.16 or later for software version 03.03.03, version 04.00.02 for software version 04.00.03, and version 04.00.04 for software version 04.00.06.

To keep the test set and modules up to date, download the full upgrade packages from www.veexinc.com. For VeSion implementation, the following versions are required:

• VeSion Server version 4.3.3.25344 or later
• VeSion RTU-320 Server version 3.2.1.25344 or later
• VeSion HTML5 version 7.0.9421 or later
• Test Scheduler Server 1.0.4.25344 or later
• GeoServer 2.0.0.475 (for compatibility with RTU-4000/4100)
• VeSion RTU410 4.3.0.25344 (for compatibility with RTU-4000/4100)

The product has new features and improvements for Standalone mode and VeSion mode, as well as known issues or limitations.

RTU-600x Module (QSFP28/SFP28) Product Usage Instructions

To use the RTU-600x module, follow these instructions:

1. Ensure that the RTU-300 Platform version is compatible with the software version of the module.
2. Download the full upgrade packages from www.veexinc.com to keep the test set and modules up to date.
3. If using VeSion implementation, ensure that the required versions are installed.
4. For scheduled tests in VeSion mode, a PDF file of the test report is added and an email notification feature is available for all or failed tests
5. For Remote Loop Up feature in VeSion mode, MAC Address field was added and a shortcut to go to the Result Page from the Scheduler Test Page and vice versa is available.
6. For Standalone mode, an L2 X-Loop bug was fixed when it was not working without IP connection and an issue that caused the system to reboot during the 100GE testing, which led to the subsequent IP connectivity issue was fixed.
7. Intermittent fail on 25G Throughput Test and Ping Test is a known issue in software version 04.00.06 and will be fixed in the upcoming release.

RTU-600x Firmware/Software Updates

The RTU-300 test platform and its factory-installed modules (RTU-320/RTU-600x) constantly evolve to keep up with new applications and advanced capabilities. Requires RTU-300 Platform version 04.00.04
RTU-300/RTU-320/RTU-600x is designed to operate in Standalone mode or in a centralized monitoring system such as VeSion. For VeSion implementation it requires:

• VeSion Server version 4.3.3.25344 or later,
• VeSion RTU-320 Server version 3.2.1.25344 or later,
• VeSion HTML5 version 7.0.9421or later
• Test Scheduler Server 1.0.4.25344 or later
• GeoServer 2.0.0.475 (for compatibility with RTU-4000/4100)
• VeSion RTU410 4.3.0.25344 (for compatibility with RTU-4000/4100)

New features and improvements for Standalone mode:

1. Fixed an L2 X-Loop bug when it was not working without IP connection
2. Fixed an issue that caused the system to reboot during the 100GE testing, which led to the subsequent IP connectivity issue

New Packet features and improvements for VeSion Mode:

1. For the scheduled test a PDF file of the test report is added
2. MAC Address field was added for the Remote Loop Up feature
3. Remote Loop Up feature was added to the Scheduler Test Page
4. Shortcut to go to the Result Page from the Scheduler Test Page and vice versa

Known issues or limitations:
Intermittent fail on 25G Throughput Test and Ping Test. It will be fixed in the upcoming release.

• VeSion RTU-320 Server version 3.2.0.25070 or later,
• VeSion HTML5 version 7.0.9225 or later
• Test Scheduler Server 1.0.4.25070 or later
• GeoServer 2.0.0.475 (for compatibility with RTU-4000/4100)
• VeSion RTU410 4.3.0.25070 (for compatibility with RTU-4000/4100)

New Packet features and improvements for VeSion Mode:

1. Added Remote Loop Up Support
2. Added Email Notification feature for the Scheduled Tests (all or failed only)
3. Fixed V-SAM Scheduled 24h duration bag

RTU-300/RTU-320/RTU-600x is designed to operate in Standalone mode or in a centralized monitoring system such as VeSion. For VeSion implementation it requires:

• VeSion Server version 4.2.2.24546 or later,
• VeSion RTU-320 Server version 3.1.9.24546 or later,
• VeSion HTML5 version 7.0.6318 or later
• Test Scheduler Server 1.0.2.24546 or later

New features and improvements for Standalone mode:

Added Independent Multiple Sessions option (499-05-867)
• Pre-requisites are the standard 100GE bundle (Z33-00-027) and 100GE V-PERF software option (499-05-805).

New Packet features and improvements for VeSion Mode:

1. QSFP28/QSFP+ port and test mode options for Ethernet testing at 40GBASE-X and 100GBASE-X. Includes Throughput, BERT, RFC2544, V-SAM (Y.1564), multi-stream, Loopback, Lane BERT, PCS, and IP test features.
2. Added Independent Multiple Sessions option

Initial Public Release. General availability.
Requires RTU-300 Platform version 03.03.13 or later.
RTU-600x is not supported in VeSion at this time.

1. QSFP28/QSFP+ port and test mode options for Ethernet testing at 40GBASE-X and 100GBASE-X. Includes Throughput, BERT, RFC2544, V-SAM (Y.1564), multi-stream, Loopback, Lane BERT, PCS and IP test features.
2. 100GE V-PERF (RFC6349 with iPerf and iPerf3 compatibility)
3. 100G EoE and Transceiver testing options.
4. SFP28/SFP+ port and test mode options for 100BASE-FX, 1000BASE-X, 10GBASE-X, 10GBASE-T and 25GBASE-X. Includes Throughput, BERT, RFC2544, V-SAM (Y.1564), Loopback and IP test features. All data rates and interfaces require compatible transceivers.

6. Optional Layer 4+ advanced test suite, including hardware-based line rate tests: V-TEST (http throughput speed test), V-PERF (RFC6349), V-FTP.
7. Concurrent Dual Test application support, with test card summaries.
8. Fibre Channel test suite options supporting 1/2/4/8GFC and 10/16/32GFC testing.
9. OTU4-ODU4-100GE Ethernet over OTN

Upgrading the RTU-600x Software via Web Remote Access/VNC (Standalone Mode)
Note: The Platform and Module SW upgrade process is intrusive, and any test will be interrupted; make sure to save any configuration or test results before proceeding.

Module Upgrade

1. Download and unzip the required software from https://www.veexinc.com/support/software. Make sure to enter first 4 characters of the RTU-600x serial number to find the correct file.
2. The Module SW (install_rtu300_600x.sh for RTU-600x) has to be upgraded after the Platform SW upgrade completed. Refer to the Reference section of RTU-300 Platform Release Notes for details
3. Click Module Upgrade under the Web Remote Access option.
4. Browse the software image file by clicking the select file button.
5. Click upload button to send the file to the RTU Module.
6. Once the upload process is completed and file verification is successful, click upgrade button.
7. Users will be asked to confirm if the upgrade procedure should continue, as a reboot will be performed during the upgrading process.
8. When the upgrade process has been completed, log back in to the RTU-300 and verify that the Module software version was updated on the home screen.
