Safety instructions

Battery safety

  1. Keep the batteries out of reach of children.

  2. Batteries must not be thrown into a fire, short-circuited or taken apart.

  3. Batteries contain harmful acids. Low batteries should be changed as soon as possible to prevent damage caused by leaking.

  4. Never use a combination of old and new batteries together, nor batteries of different types. Wearchemical-resistant protective gloves and safety glasses when handling leaking batteries.
    General safety

  5. Do not place the product near extreme temperatures or expose tovibrations or shocks.

  6. The outdoor sensor is protected against splashes of water, but it isnot waterproof. Choose a shady and dry position for the outdoor sensor.

Weather symbols from left to right: sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, rainy. The weather symbols only indicate a general weather trend within 12 to 24 hours. For example, if the current weather is cloudy and the rain symbol is displayed, it does not mean the product is faulty because it is not raining. Instead it means that the air pressure has dropped, and the weather is expected to get worse, but it is not necessarily rainy. The sun symbol also appears at night if it is a starry night. Please note: We take no responsibility for any incorrect readings or for any consequences which may result from them.

Use

  1. Place the weather station and the outdoor sensor on a table with a distance of about 2.5 meter. Avoid possible interference sources (electronic devices and radio signals).
  2. Insert 2 x AAA (1.5V) batteries into the battery compartment of the outdoor sensor. Make sure the polarities are correct.
  3. Connect the weather station to the USB-A to DC cable, connect the cable to both devices.
  4. A sound will be played, and all symbols will be displayed for a short moment.
  5. The display is activated. The indoor temperature will be displayed, and it will scan the outdoor temperature and the reception symbol (A2) will flash. If the reception of the outdoor temperature fails, then ”- -” will be displayed. Check if there is any source of interference. When you have radio time reception, you can manually scan the outdoor temperature. Press and hold down the down button (B5) for 2 seconds.

Radio time reception While scanning for signal, the DCF symbol will be flashing. When reception is successful (after 3-7 minutes), time and the DCF symbol will be displayed steadily in the display.
Note: while scanning, the display turns off and outdoor temperature will not be transmitted. If there is no reception possible, manual scan might help. Press the wave button (B6). The DCF symbol will flash. Cancel the scan by pressing the wave button (B6) again. The DCF symbol disappears. A scan always occurs at 1:00 o’clock in the morning until 5:00 o’clock. If the scan is not successful at 5:00 o’clock, scans will be made again at 1:00 o’clock in the morning. If the scan for DCF signal failed (for example due to disturbances, transmitting distance, etc.), the time can be set manually. The DCF symbol disappears and the clock will work as a quartz clock.

The DCF signal
The radio time signal (DCF) is from the National Metrology Institute of Germany (PTB), Braunschweig. It is transmitted from Mainflingen via signal DCF-77 (77.5 kHz) with a range of about 2000 km. Summertime and wintertime changes are automatic. When summertime is active the 3 letters “DST” will be displayed. “DST” is short for American English: “Daylight-Saving Time”, which means summertime. The quality of the signal depends mainly on the geographic location. Normally there should be no reception problems within a 1900 km (daytime) radius around Frankfurt. Range map is available online from National Metrology Institute of Germany (PTB) or can be found on Wikipedia.

Set time and calendar

  1. Press and hold the mode button (B2) to set time manually.
  2. After adjusting each setting, press the mode button (B2) to setthe next setting. Press the up or down buttons (B4,B5) to adjust each setting. The order of settings are (default in parenthesis): year (2015), day and month (English language), time zone (00), 12 or 24 hours(24h), hours and minutes.

Note: Manually set time will be overwritten by radio time when signal is received successfully.

Time zone
Time zone can be changed with up to -12/+12.Time zone change is needed where the DCF signal can be received but the time zone is different from German time.

Alarm
Press and hold the alarm button (B3). The letters “AL” and 6:00 (default) will be displayed. Press the up or down buttons (B4, B5) to adjust hours, minutes and snooze and on the alarm button (B3) to confirm each change. The order is: hours, minutes, snooze interval 1-60(10 is default). When the alarm goes off it will play a sound and the alarm symbol will flash.

Press any button to stop the alarm, pressing the light and snooze button (B1 or B7) will snooze instead. If the alarm is not stopped manually, the alarm will automatically turn off after one minute and will be reactivated after one minute. Press the light and snooze button (B1 or B7) on the front or on the back to use the snooze function. The letters “Zz” and the alarm symbol will be flashing. While snooze is active, the alarm will not sound. Press the alarm button (B3) once to deactivate the snooze function. Press the alarm button (B3) again to deactivate the alarm function. Press the mode button (B2), to show current set alarm time.

Temperature
The maximum and minimum values are automatically reset at midnight. Press and hold the up button (B4) for 3 seconds to manually reset the maximum and minimum values for the outdoor temperature. Press the down button (B5) to change between °C (Celsius) or °F (Fahrenheit).

Positioning
Choose a shady and dry position for the outdoor sensor. (Direct sunshine creates false measurements and continuous humidity strains the electronic components unnecessarily). Place the weather station in the living room with the stand folded out. Avoid interference from computers, monitors or TVs or solid metal objects. The range is up to 60 m from the outdoor sensor to the weather station with free vision. If there are concrete walls with steel armatures in between, the range will be shortened, and the signal will be weakened. Check if you get signal in your chosen positions and if needed try other positions for the outdoor sensor and/or weather station. If the signal is successful you can wall mount the outdoor sensor (optional). The outdoor sensor can be hung on a wall, or you can place it on a flat surface.

Cleaning and maintenance

Clean the devices with a soft damp cloth. Do not use solvents or scouring agents. if you do not use the product for a long period of time, remove the batteries. Keep the devices in a dry place.

Battery replacement

Low battery of the outdoor sensor is indicated on the display with the battery symbol next to the outdoor temperature. To change the battery, open the battery compartment of the outdoor sensor. Insert 2 x AAA (1.5V) batteries into the battery compartment. Make sure the polarities are correct. To change the batteries on the weather station, open the battery compartment. Insert 3 x AAA (1.5V) batteries. Make sure the polarities are correct.
Note: when the batteries are changed, the weather station and outdoor sensor must reconnect, so insert new batteries into both devices or start a manual scan.

Troubleshooting

Problem
No response/nothing displayed onweather station.

Possible solutions
If the device is powered by battery:Ensure that the batteries polarities are correct or change the batteries. If it is powered by power adapter: Try reconnecting the power adapter and USB cable.

Problem
No reception of the outdoor sensor, display shows: ”—”.

Possible solutions
Reinstall the outdoor sensor. Check the batteries of the outdoor sensor (Rechargeable batteries might cause problems) Power both devices on and off. Make a manual scan for the outdoor sensor. Choose another location for the outdoor sensor and/or the weather station. Reduce the distance between the outdoor sensor and the weather station. Check if there is any possible interference.

Problem
No radio signal.

Possible solutions
Press the wave button (B6) and to scan manually. The signal is stronger during night. Try at nighttime. Choose another location for the weather station. Manually set the time. Check if there is any possible interference. Power the weather station on and off.

 Never dispose of empty batteries and rechargeable batteries in household waste. As a consumer, you are legally required to take them to a retail store or to an appropriate collection site depending on national or local regulations, in order to protect the environment.
The symbols for the heavy metals contained are:
Cd =cadmium,
Hg = mercury;
Pb =lead
