Pedal assistance

You’ve got places to be and people to see, so get going.

  • Pedal assistance will be OFF when you turn ON your e-bike. You need to select an assist level to get that extra boost.TREK-Hyena-E-Bike-FIG-21
  • Can be set before you start pedaling or changed while pedaling
  • Stops when:
    • You stop pedaling or reach the maximum assist speed (Maximum speeds vary by region. Check with your local e-bike retailer.)
    • The battery charge drops to 4%. The remaining charge capacity is reserved to power the lights (if equipped)
  • Restarts when:
    • You start pedaling again, and your speed is below the maximum assist speed

Use walk assistance

Walk assistance provides a little push for those times when you are walking or pushing your bike.
Note: In some regions and on some bikes (bikes with drop bars), walk assistance may not be available. Ask your local e-bike retailer if this feature is available on your bike.

WARNING: Only use walk assistance when you are walking your bike. Never use walk assistance when the wheels are not touching the ground (for example, in a bike stand). The wheel spins and you could be injured by moving parts. TREK-Hyena-E-Bike-FIG-18

Care for your battery and e-bike

Along with the fun of having an e-bike comes a few special warnings to keep you and your bike safe.

Install accessories carefully
Consult with an e-bike technician before installing accessories. Using the wrong bolt in the wrong place could cause a short circuit in the electrical system and/or damage the battery which might lead to over-heating. A battery that has been severely impacted could catch fire. If you suspect damage to your battery, visit your local bike shop immediately to have the battery inspected.

Transport your e-bike safely

  • The Hyena drive system adds weight to the bicycle. Overloading a vehicle-mounted bicycle rack can result in serious injury or death. Refer to your vehicle rack manual to be sure it is compatible with your e-bike.
  • Do not leave your e-bike in your car in the summer. The temperature inside your car could exceed 140 °F (60 °C). Extreme heat could damage your battery or cause it to catch fire.

Store your e-bike properly
If you won’t be riding your e-bike for 3 months or more, take the following steps to properly store it:

  • Store your e-bike in a dry, ventilated location away from moisture, heat sources, and combustible or easily flammable objects.

  • Store your e-bike at the recommended temperature. Storing your e-bike outside of this range could damage the battery, affect its performance, or cause the battery to catch fire.

  • Monitor the battery charge. Keep the battery charged to a minimum of 30% to 80%. The battery can be damaged by deep discharge.

  • When the battery charge is restored, disconnect the e-bike from the charger. Do not store your e- bike connected to the charger.

Wash your e-bike gently
Do not submerge your e-bike or its components in water or wash them with a high-pressure hose. Water could contact the electrical system and damage it.

Repair and maintain your e-bike safely
Never attempt to open any parts of the electrical system. Always contact your local bike shop to service any parts of the electrical system. Any unauthorized modification (tampering) of your bike’s drive system is prohibited. If you suspect your bike has been tampered with, or experience a change in the speed at which your drive assistance cuts off, stop riding and contact an authorized e-bike retailer for assistance.

Dispose of components according to local rules
Dispose of the drive unit, battery, speed sensor, remote, wiring, accessories, and packaging in an environmentally correct manner according to local laws and regulations. Do not dispose of an e-bike or its components with household waste. Contact your local e-bike retailer for proper recycling options.
