4.1 Function
Application range
The panel mounting devices are approved for use in hazardous areas of Zones 1 and 2.
The devices are available in 3 versions:

  • Type 8003/1.1: with spring clamp terminal and connection chamber
  • Type 8003/1.2: with spring clamp terminal
  • Type 8003/1.3: with connection line and connection chamber

Types 8003/1.1 and 8003/1.3 are completely certified explosion-protected equipment.
They are suitable for installation on enclosure walls, electrical device covers, panels or control cabinets.
Types 8003/1.2 are incomplete, explosion-protected electrical equipment suitable for installation in enclosures of type of protection “increased safety” according to IEC/EN 60079-7.
Mode of operation
The panel mounting devices switch load, control and signal circuits.
They are designed for single-hole mounting D30 to EN 50007 in combination with type 8602/2 actuators. The standard switches and standard key-operated switches are
“latching” in all positions. In the standard key-operated buttons, the key is detachable in all positions. Due to integration of coding elements, the switches can be  converted to the “spring return” or “latching, key non- detachable” functions.

  • Do not drop the device.

Mounting and Installation

The device is approved for use in gas explosion hazardous areas of Zones 1 and 2 and in safe areas.
DANGER
Explosion hazard due to installation without approved field enclosure!
Non-compliance results in severe or fatal injuries!

  • If used in Zone 1, the device must be installed in an enclosure that meets the requirements of IEC/EN 60079-11 and IEC/EN 60079-7.
  • If used in Zone 2, the device must be installed in an enclosure that meets the requirements of IEC/EN 60079-15.

DANGER
Explosion hazard due to incorrect installation of the device!
Non-compliance results in severe or fatal injuries.

  • Carry out installation strictly according to the instructions and national safety and accident prevention regulations to maintain the explosion protection.
  • Select and install the electrical device so that explosion protection is not affected due to external influences, i.e. pressure conditions, chemical, mechanical, thermal and electric impact such as vibration, humidity and corrosion (see IEC/EN 60079-14).
  • The device must only be installed by trained qualified personnel who is familiar with the relevant standards.

7.2.1 Operating Position
The devices are suitable for installation on enclosure walls or panels with a wall thickness of 1.0 to 6.5 mm. The mounting hole diameter is 30.5 mm.
7.2.2 Assembly Single hole mounting

  • Push the actuator (1) into the installation wall (2) and lock it into position. Ensure that the seal (4) is seated precisely when doing so.
  • Push the panel mounting device (3) onto the actuator (1) from the back of the installation wall. Observe the position of the snap fit when doing so.
  • Tighten the actuator (1) against the installation wall (2) to which it is fitted by turning the threaded nut (8). (Tightening torque of the threaded nut: 2.5 Nm)
  • Ensure that the panel mounting device (3) and the actuator (1) are firmly attached in the installation wall (2).

NOTICE
Malfunction of the device due to improper mounting of the key-operated switches 8003/1..-008 and the rotary actuators 8003/1..-726 and -727.
Non-compliance may lead to material damage!

  • Fit the rib (5) exactly into the groove (6) of the installation wall (2).
  • Insert the panel mounting device (3) in such a way that the cable gland (7) is rotated by 180° relative to the groove (see single hole mounting figure: groove at the top, cable gland downward).

7.3 Installation
DANGER
Explosion hazard due to incorrect selection of the type of protection!
Non-compliance results in severe or fatal injuries.

  • Within a hazardous area, connect only conductors in a type of protection corresponding to the zone.

CAUTION
Danger of electric shock due to energised parts!
Non-compliance can result in minor injuries!

  • All connections must be disconnected from the power supply.
  • Secure the connections against unauthorized switching.

Operation under difficult conditions, such as, in particular, on ships, requires additional measures to be taken for correct installation, depending on the place of use. Further information and instructions on this can be obtained from your regional sales contact on request.
7.3.1 Electrical Connections

  • Please observe the information given in chapter “Technical Data”.
  • The conductor must be connected carefully.
  • The conductor insulation must reach to the clamping units.
  • Do not damage the conductor (nicking) when stripping it.
  • Ensure that the maximum permissible conductor temperatures and the maximum permissible surface temperature are not exceeded by selecting suitable electric lines and means of running them.
  • Avoid mechanical damage to the conductor insulation due to rubbing against sharp-edged metal parts.

Connection cross-sections (8003/1.1 and 8003/1.2):

  • 0.75 to 1.5 mm 2
    Usable copper conductors:

  • single wire, stranded, finely or extra finely stranded

7.3.2 Cable Connection for Type 8003/1.1 Cable entry

  • Use only cables with an outer diameter of 5 to 9 mm in the clamping range of the cable entry.
  • Comply precisely with the specified stripping length of the wires (6 mm) in order to ensure the required creepage distances and clearances.
  • Permanently install the cables and check that they are securely seated when finished.

STAHL Reihe 80031 Panel Mounting Devices - Dimensions3

  • Push the cable into the cable gland (1) from behind.
  • Push the cable into the connection chamber cover until there is a sufficient length left free on the other side to enable connections to be prepared (2).

Cable preparation

STAHL Reihe 80031 Panel Mounting Devices - Dimensions4

  • Strip 40 mm of the insulation of the conductor.
  • Strip 6 mm of the insulation of the wires.

Conductor connection

STAHL Reihe 80031 Panel Mounting Devices - Conductor
connection

  • Sectional view of the terminal (1).
  • Open the terminal with a slotted screwdriver (0.6 x 3.5 mm Form A according to DIN 5264/ISO 2380-1) (2). The screwdriver blade holds the terminal open, thus enabling the conductor to be introduced.
  • Introduce the prepared conductor (3).
  • Remove the screwdriver.
  • Check that the conductor is seated securely. The conductor is securely clamped (4).

Closing the connection chamber

STAHL Reihe 80031 Panel Mounting Devices - chamber

  • Push the connection cover onto the terminal support (1) until it snaps into place.
  • Push the cable toward the connection chamber cover (2).
  • Tighten the gland nut to a torque of approx. 1.3 Nm. The connection chamber is now tightly sealed.

Opening the connection chamber

  • Open the connection chamber only if you have a suitable tool, for example a slotted screwdriver 0.6 x 3.5.
  • Loosen the cable entry.
  • Position the screwdriver against one of the lugs and turn it by 90° (1).
  • Slightly pull back the connection chamber cover and hold it in this position.
  • Position the screwdriver against the second lug and turn it by 90°.
  • Remove the connection chamber cover. The connection chamber is open (2).
