Mantis Sirius Wall-Mounted Black Dual Voltage Insect Light Trap

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE.
ALWAYS SWITCH OFF THE SYSTEM BEFORE SERVICING.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
All PestWest flying insect management systems are manufactured with only the highest quality materials. The bodywork is powder coated zintec steel (rust- resistant) with a polished aluminum reflector (Stainless steel 304 grade front cover also available). The system utilizes a PestWest glue board. PestWest systems are engineered with Quantum BL lead-free, FEP coated, shatter resistant lamps.
The Mantis Sirius is a front-of-house/public area, flying insect system that provides optimally energy efficient Quantum T5 lamp technology. A state of the art, energy efficient, high frequency system designed for all public areas. The Sirius is handcrafted with an electronic ballast, so no starters are required. The solid state ballast powers two T5 (5/8”) Quantum lamps thatdramatically increase performance and reliability at a decreased cost.

PRECAUTIONS

All PestWest insect light traps are fully insulated, class 1 appliances, nevertheless, reasonable precautions must be observed:

  • Always switch off the system before servicing.
  • Do not install in wet or damp environments or where dangerous concentrations of flammable gases or dusts are likely to occur.
  • Ensure the system is properly grounded.
  • Do not allow the glue board to become over-filled with dead insects. Change at regular intervals as required by the catch or at least every 6-8 weeks. Use only PestWest replacement glue boards.
  • The system is designed for indoor use only.
  • Not suitable for use in barns, stables or similar locations.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

UNPACKING YOUR SIRIUS
Each system is carefully inspected and packed before leaving our factory. Before discarding the outer carton, examine for obvious signs of transport damage. Remove the system and pay particular attention to the removal of all packing materials before installation.

OPERATION

Insect light traps operate on the principle that most flying insects are attracted to light, particularly to the ultraviolet (UV) end of the light spectrum. Since insects also fly at night and have less competitive lighting, systems must operate 24 hours a day.
LOCATION OF THE SYSTEM
System efficacy can be affected by the intensity of other light sources (overhead lighting and daylight), therefore locate the system where competition from other light sources is minimal. For best results, install all your systems using the PestWest UV-A Meter.
In food areas, mount close to, but not directly over, exposed food or preparation surfaces. Observe where the flies tend to congregate and interception zones, and mount your system close to that area. Mount systems adjacent to fly ingress points (service/overhead doors and windows). Mount the system above head level and clear of
any traffic (do not position the system over lockout, tag-out areas).

INSTALLATION

The PestWest Mantis Sirius is engineered with a 6.6ft (2m) power cord ending in a Nema 5-15 US plug, and operates from a 110-277V 50-60Hz supply. Be certain the power cord is properly secured. A licensed electrician must perform any extensions to the power cord.
Using the screws and masonry rawl plugs provided, the system has 4 keyhole slots on the rear panel to permit wall mounting. The system can be mounted either horizontally or vertically, in any orientation, enabling the power cord to exit the system on whichever side is preferred, to best suit the electrical outlet location, and provide a neat installation.
The system is supplied, as standard, to be mounted with the switch under the main chassis, or vertically in either orientation. If theses mounting options are chosen, there is no need to remove and rotate the front cover.
NOTE: In certain orientations, the cover may need to be rotated, to prevent the glue board dropping out of the system. Refer to ‘FRONT COVER ROTATION’ for instructions. Only 2 Keyholes should be used for horizontal mounting, while 4 keyholes should be used in vertical mounting.
Using the template provided, mark the necessary points onto the mounting surface. Drill to a depth of 1 1/2” using a 7/32” drill bit. Insert the plastic wall anchor into the drilled hole and insert the screw into the wall anchor. DO NOT TIGHTEN. Once the screw is flush with the wall loosen (counterclockwise) 2 complete turns to bring the screw head approx 2/5” above the wall surface. The system will now hook over the screws because of the keyhole feature. Adjust tightness as necessary.
Before installing the glue board, remove the paper backing from the glue surface (do not touch the glue surface).

FRONT COVER ROTATION (OPTIONAL)
Unscrew the 4 screws which are securing the cover to the mount panel using a pozidrive (or phillips) screwdriver. Ensure the cover is rotated so that the ‘board stop’ feature on the board guides is located to whichever face of the system has been selected to be the underside. Failure to do this will result in the glue board falling out of the system.
Replacement of the cover is the opposite procedure of removal.

It may also be beneficial to rotate the cover when mounting the system in the vertical orientation, if for example the system is being located near to the corner of a room, which would otherwise limit access when replacing the glue board.
HARDWIRING THE SYSTEM
CAUTION – Ensure the main power supply is switched off.
For direct wiring, the system has a knockout in the rear panel. For the electrical connections, a terminal block is located inside the enclosure. This option can be used for hardwiring 220-240V 50-60Hz electrical supplies.
This option must be performed by a licensed electrician. The existing power cord should be removed and discarded.
The system must be disassembled by removing both the front cover and reflector components.

Using a grounded pozidrive or phillips screwdriver, remove the 4 screws securing the cover to the mounting panel. Remove the cover. Place the cover front side down on a soft, debris free surface to avoid any scratching. Remove the two lamps and place to one side.

With a grounded screwdriver, remove the 4 remaining screws securing the reflector. Remove the reflector to gain access to the internal wiring. If additional access is required, the lamp holders can be removed by depressing the plastic retaining clips with a small flat screwdriver (depress the clips gently to avoid breaking them).
Using a grounded screwdriver, remove the small screws on the connector block which are holding in place the live and neutral wires leading from the power cord and pull them out of the connector block. Next unfasten the M4 nut which is securing the ground wire. Remove the nut, the top spring washer and the grounding wire leading from the power cord. The power cord can now be removed by compressing the strain relief bushing. Discard the cord.
By wedging a flat head screwdriver into the knockout slit and gently tapping the screwdriver with a hammer, remove the knockout panel. Once the edge of the knockout is bent, you can then grip the corner with pliers and twist until the securing tabs break loose. If the edges of the hole are sharp, they should be gently filed down to ensure no wires will be cut or damaged.

WIRING DIAGRAM

To rewire the system, run the fixed wiring through the knockout. The ground wire should be connected back to the ground stud on the bodywork using an appropriate ring terminal connector, securing it with both the spring washer and M4 nut provided. Check that the system is fully grounded and the wire is secured before
continuing with installation.
Once grounded, the live (black) and neutral (white) wires can then be reconnected to the connector block as before. Ensure all wires are securely fastened by firmly tugging on them.
None of the wires running from the ballast OR between the connector block and the switch should be tampered with.
Once the system is safely rewired, it can be reassembled. Assembly is the opposite procedure of disassembly.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE ALWAYS SWITCH OFF THE SYSTEM BEFORE SERVICING.
To maintain the attractive appearance of the system, wipe down and clean as often as required.
Use a cloth dampened with water and detergent or a proprietary cleaner. Do not use scouring pads or abrasives.
The UVA lamps used in insect light traps should be changed at least once per year. To maintain optimum efficacy, replace with Quantum BL leadfree,FEP coated, shatter resistant lamps. People cannot see UVA light from UVA BL lamps, but can see the blue light from UVA BL lamps. The UVA light diminished over time. Additionally, UVA light decreases proportionately by the distance from the lamps (Inverse Square Law). Therefore, for optimum placement and results, use the PestWest UV-AMETER.
Insect light traps should operate 24/7/365. Change lamps at least once per year (post winter onset of increased fly activity).
Quantum BL lead-free, FEP coated, shatter-resistant lamps are intended for use in glass exclusion zones. PestWest FEP coating is the highest quality available. FEP is both UV and operating temperature tolerant while allowing optimum UVA emission.
CHANGING GLUE BOARDS ALWAYS SWITCH OFF THE SYSTEM BEFORE SERVICING.
Glue boards should be changed when full or at least every 6-8 weeks. Regular inspections of the glue boards are recommended, as they are not visible in normal operation.
Remove the old glue board by lifting it out of the guides on the reverse side of the cover.

(VIEW FROM REAR OF COVER TO SHOW GUIDES AND BOARD POSITION)
Always install PestWest brand glue boards to ensure peak efficiency. To fit the shape of the Mantis Sirius, the glue board has a perforated crease about 3 inches in from one edge. The board must be separated along this perforation with the smaller section being discarded.
Remove the backing paper from the new board and slide into the guides on the reverse side of the  over, inserting the first edge along the separation line. Ensure the glue surface is facing towards the lamp.
CHANGING LAMPS ALWAYS SWITCH OFF THE SYSTEM BEFORE SERVICING.
Grasp and rotate each lamp 90° in either direction until 2 clicks are heard. Remove the lamps by sliding out of the lamp holders. Installation is the opposite procedure to removal.
