INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Always switch off the system before servicing.
Product description
The On-Top ProES system (Product code: 125-000362) is designed to easily fit
into NEMA Type ‘G’ suspended (drop) ceilings with 24” x 24” tiles. A cross bar
is included for easily converting any 48” ceiling tile into 24”.
All PestWest flying insect management systems are constructed using the
highest quality materials. The bodywork is of a conformal zintec steel (rust-
resistant) chassis with a polished aluminum reflector. The cover is brushed
stainless steel and retains one PestWest full-size glue board. The On-Top
ProES system is manufactured with 2-14 W (28 Watts) T5 Quantum
BL lamps with FEP shatter-resistant coating.
The On-Top ProES offers the newest generation of higher energy efficient T5
lamp technology. These lamps are powered by an electronic ballast that is more
energy efficient than a traditional magnetic ballast, and since entirely
automatic, no separate starters are required. Electronic ballasts increase the
operating life of fluorescent lamps.
Unpacking the On-Top ProES system
Each system is carefully inspected and packed before leaving the factory.
Before discarding the outer carton, examine for evidence of transport damage.
Mode of operation
Insect light trap systems operate on the principle that most flying insects
are attracted to light, particularly to the ultraviolet (UVA) end of the light
spectrum. Since insects are still active, and will fly at night, systems
should remain in operation 24 hours a day. All PestWest systems possess a
3-year warranty (excluding lamps and glue boards).
Positioning the system
For optimum performance, use the PestWest UV-A METER to assess both the
ambient or competing light and UVA output for all system deployments.
Depending upon the target insect, installing the system into high ceilings
over 12 ft may reduce catch. For over-wintering insects such as Cluster flies,
Pollenia rudis, the On-Top ProES is especially effective.
For optimium flying insect attraction, the system should be deployed away from
competing light sources (daylight and overhead lighting). Use the PestWest
UV-A METER to assess best placement.
In food areas, refer to the current FDA Food Code or your third party auditor
for rules of deployment. Install the system >3 m away from food surfaces
(never directly over exposed food or preparation surfaces). Install in such a
way as to attract flies away from sensitive areas. Observe where flies tend to
aggregate, and if possible, install your On-Top ProES system close to that
area.
Install systems near areas that allow flying insects to get indoors (doors and
windows to the outside and garbage areas). Ensure UVA light cannot be seen
from the outside.
Position the system where it can be easily reached for service. Do not install
the system over machinery where access may be difficult or hazardous.
Electrical supply
The On-Top ProES is supplied with a 20-foot power cord and operates from a
110-277 V 50/60 Hz electrical supply. The power cord is hard-wired for
electrical safety. Ensure that once installed, the power cord is adequately
secured.
Installation
Possible risk of fire, electrical shock, and/or other hazards. It is
recommended that the electrical portion of this installation be performed by a
licensed electrician. Consult with your local code enforcement officials for
specific regulations regarding installation of this system. PestWest USA
assumes no responsibility for claims resulting from improper or careless
installation or handling of this product.
The system is designed to fit into NEMA Type ‘G’ suspended ceilings with tile
areas of 24” x 24”. If 48” x 24” panels are being used, then a 24” cross bar
is included for converting 48” ceiling tiles into 24”. After determination of
the best deployment location (see positioning section), remove a ceiling
panel. Ensure the ceiling framework is the correct cut-out size to retain the
system safely and securely. Also ensure the framework is strong enough to take
the weight of the system. It is necessary for the system to be securely
fastened to the ceiling-framing member by mechanical means such as bolts,
ties, screws, or rivets, etc.
Remove all protective film from the various metal parts. Fit the system into
the suspended ceiling frame and ensure it is properly secured. Using cable or
zip ties, secure the power cord to the framework from the power supply to the
On Top ProES. Once the system is correctly installed into the ceiling, remove
the backing paper from the glue board and place into the front cover so that
the glue is facing upward toward the lamps. Turn the system on by the
illuminated power-on switch. Secure and hinge the front cover back up onto the
two studs.
No ceiling suspension hardware is provided with this system. Ensure
ceilingframing and selected ceiling suspension hardware are strong enough to
support the weight of the unit or a minimum of 40 pounds.
The unit must be securely fastened to the ceiling-framing or the roof framing
structure by mechanical means such as non-corroding hardware and cable(s).
For increased stability, it is recommended the system be anchored using the
two tabs on the back (or top) of the system housing (see image “A” for
attachment area)
IMAGE A
- Using a pair of pliers, fold the tabs up vertically
- Insert the suspension wire or cable through the holes in the tabs
- Secure in place and anchor the wire or cable to the ceiling beam
Caution: Never fasten the unit to sprinkler system fixtures, water pipes, or electrical lines. Consult a qualified professional to be in compliance with local codes and regulations. For additional installation questions contact our customer satisfaction team at 866.476.7378 or info@pestwest.com.
Precautions
All PestWest systems are fully insulated Class I appliances. Observe the following precautions.
-
Risk of Fire, Electric Shock, Cuts and/or other hazards.
-
Recommend this product is installed by a licensed electrician.
-
The system operates from a 110-277 Volt supply – always switch off the machine before servicing.
-
Do not install where dangerous concentrations of flammable gases or dusts are likely to occur.
-
Caution Risk of Fire – Do not install insulation within 76 mm (3 in) of any part of the On Top ProES.
-
This system is thermally protected. The fluorescent lamps will blink if newer or fresh lamps have been installed and the system has overheated.
-
Ensure the system is properly grounded.
-
Avoid working on the system if it is still connected to the main power supply.
-
Ensure that operators have an adequate and secure working platform when installing or maintaining equipment.
-
Do not allow the glue board to become over-filled with dead insects.
Pest Identification is key in your IPM program. The On Top ProES is the ideal pest monitoring system that will give you a wealth of information. Change glue board at regular intervals as required by the catch or at least every 6-8 weeks. Use only PestWest replacement glue boards. -
This system is designed for indoor use or limited outdoor use. If used outdoors, install in dry areas ONLY, so that the system and electrical connections are fully protected from moisture. Comply to all fire codes.
Cleaning and maintenance
To maintain the attractive appearance of the system, wipe down and clean as
often as required. Use a cloth dampened with water and detergent or a
proprietary cleaner. Do not use scouring pads or abrasives. The UVA lamps
within the On-Top ProES system should be changed at least once per year. For
optimum performance and maintaining the warranty, replace with PestWest
Quantum BL lamps.
Lamps are most attractive to target flying insects when less than one year
old. UVA light emitted by the lamps at a wavelength of 350-375 nanometers (nm)
diminishes with use. Light of this wavelength is invisible to the human eye.
For optimum performance, routinely assess lamps with the PestWest UV-A METER.
Daily switching on and off of lamps results in faster loss of effective UVA
emission. Therefore, leave the lamps switched on continuously, and change them
at least once per year (preferably at the onset of increased flying insect
activity or in the spring).
Since the On-Top ProES system is designed to be installed overhead, PestWest
offers only FEP coated shatter resistant Quantum BL lamps.
The shatter-resistant lamp is intended for use in glass exclusion zones.
PestWest supplies the highest quality lamp coating available. FEP lamp coating
is both UV and operating temperature tolerant while allowing high UVA
emission. For ptimum performance, use only PestWest lamps.
Replacing the glue board
Always switch off the system before servicing. Glue boards should be changed
when full or at least every 6-8 weeks. Use only PestWest glue boards. PestWest
cannot guarantee efficacy of the system if other glue boards are used. Regular
inspections of the glue boards are recommended, as they are not visible in
normal operation.
Unclip the front cover from the switch side and let it hinge downwards. Remove
the old glue board by lifting it out of the cover. Remove the backing paper
from the new board and place it into position on the cover, sticky side up.
Before installing, it may be neccessary to bend the board into a curved shape
(similar to the cover). Replacing the cover is the opposite procedure to
removal.
Changing the lamps
Always switch off the system before servicing. Unclip the front cover from the
switch side and let it hinge downwards. Grasp and rotate each lamp 90° until 2
clicks are heard. The lamps can then be withdrawn by sliding out of the lamp
holders. Replacing the cover is the opposite procedure to removal.
