  • Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Only use adaptors and attachments recommended or sold by PestWest.
  • Do not use outdoors. To disconnect this appliance, remove plug from outlet.
  • Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
  • Unplug from outlet before serving or cleaning.
  • Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or is dropped or damaged in any manner. Please contact PestWest: 866.476.7378 We have no authorized service facilities.
  • To reduce the risk of electrical shock, do not put the appliance in water or other liquid. Do not place or store appliance where it can fall or be pulled into a tub or sink.
  • Always unplug before replacing the lamp. Replace bulb with same type rated 18 Watts. See REPLACEMENT PARTS section.
  • The lamp is made of glass. Extra care should be given when replacing and ALWAYS use protective gloves to prevent injury should the glass break.
    • Connect to a properly grounded outlet only.
    See GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS section.

CAUTION
PestWest systems are fully insulated, Class I appliances, nevertheless, sensible precautions should be observed:

  • Do not install in wet or damp environments or where dangerous concentrations of flammable gases or dusts are likely to occur.
  • Ensure the system is properly grounded.
  • Unplug the system prior to any maintenance.
  • Ensure that operators have an adequate and secure working platform when working on the machines.
  • Do not allow the glue board to become overfilled with dead insects. Change at regular intervals as required by the catch or at least every 8 weeks.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This PestWest Sunburst flying insect control system is made using the highest quality materials. The bodywork is sprayed with conformal polyester powder- coated finish over a zintex (rust-resistant) steel frame. The Sunburst can be wall mounted or free standing on a table top or cabinet. The Sunburst has a universal input range meaning it can operate from a wide range of supply voltages from 100-277V 50/60Hz, this allows the system to be used in many different countries (by simply changing the power cord to a type with a plug suited to the local outlet sockets)

UNPACKING YOUR SYSTEM

Each system is carefully inspected and packed before leaving our factory. Before discarding the outer carton, examine for obvious evidence of transport damage. Remove the system and pay particular attention to the removal of all packing materials including any transit packing. Including the release paper off the glue board.

OPERATION

The PestWest Sunburst fly trap operates on the principal that most flying insects are attracted to light, particularly to the ultraviolet (UV) end of the light spectrum. Since insects are still very active and will fly at night, traps should be left operating continuously, i.e.: 24 hours a day.

FINDING THE BEST PLACEMENT FOR YOUR SUNBURST

System efficacy can be affected by the intensity of other light sources (overhead lighting and daylight). Place or mount the system where competition from other light sources is minimal.
In food areas, place or mount close to, but not directly over, exposed food or preparation surfaces. Observe where flies tend to congregate and/or fly and then place or mount your system close to that area.
Place or mount the system(s) adjacent to fly ingress point(s), such as service and/or overhead doors and windows.

COVERAGE

Keep is mind that the brighter the surrounding indoor light and daylight, the greater the number of systems needed for optimum fly attraction.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

The PestWest Sunburst has 2 keyhole slots on the rear panel for wall mounting. The Sunburst can be placed (free-standing) on a table or cabinet.
The system comes with a 6-foot power cord with IEC C14 connector at one end and a 3 pin grounded USA plug on the other end. The system will operate from a 100-277 volt 50/60Hz supply.
If the moulded-on plug is removed from the supplied cord, dispose of safely. Ensure that once installed, the power cord is adequately secured. Before installing any system, please remove all packaging.
Using the system as a template, mark off 2 drill holes onto the mounting surface. Using the screws and plastic plugs provided, hold the system in place at level. Note: If the wall is of drywall/sheetrock, appropriate hardware must be used to ensure the system is be secure.
Once installed, you will need to remove backing paper from the glue board to reveal the glued surface. Then slot the glue into the system.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

This appliance must be grounded. In the event of malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment -grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
DANGER Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. The conductor with insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without yellow stripes is the equipment- grounding conductor. If repair or replacement of the cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the equipment grounding conductor to a live terminal. Check with a licensed electrician or serviceman if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if in doubt as to whether the appliance is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the appliance if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a licensed electrician.

This appliance is for use on a 100-277V circuit, and has a grounding plug that looks like the adaptor illustrated in sketch above. A temporary adaptor, which looks like the adaptor illustrated in sketches B and C, may be used to connect this plug to a 2-pole receptacle a shown in sketch B if a properly grounded outlet is not available. The temporary adaptor should be used only until a properly grounded outlet can be installed by a licensed electrician. The green colored rigid ear, lug, and the like, extending from the adaptor must be connected to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover. Whenever the adaptor is used, it must be held in place by the metal screw.

USER-MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

DISCONNECT THE POWER BEFORE UNDERTAKING ANY SERVICING OR MAINTENANCE
To maintain the attractive appearance of the system, it should be cleaned/wiped down as often as required. Use a cloth dampened with water and detergent or a proprietary cleaner. Do not use scouring pads or abrasives.

GLUE BOARD REPLACEMENT

Due to insect contamination the glue boards should be changed when full or at least every eight weeks. Always use PestWest glue boards to ensure peak efficacy. Remove the backing paper from the new board in a single swift motion; otherwise it will tend to remain firmly attached. Should this occur, re-apply the peeled back section and repeat.
Other glue boards may not have effective UV inhibitors that PestWest brand incorporates in this system, therefore, ONLY PestWest brand glue boards and components must be installed in the system. PestWest recommends an eight-week glue board replacement cycle. Your system may capture a wide range of insect pests.
Simply remove the used glue board from the machine by pulling out of the front cover. Remove the release paper from the new glue board before putting it in the system. Insert the new glue board into the system by sliding it into the curved front so that the sticky surface is facing the lamp.

UV LAMP REPLACEMENT

Lamps are most attractive to the target flying insects when less than one year old. This is because the UV light emitted by the lamps at a wavelength of 365 nanometers diminishes with use. Light of this wavelength is invisible to the human eye. The blue/violet colored light, which we can see is not at all representative of the actual UV light emissions. Daily switching on and off of the lamps results in an even faster loss of the effective UV emission.

THEREFORE IT IS MOST EFFECTIVE TO LEAVE THE SYSTEMS SWITCHED ON CONTINUOUSLY AND TO CHANGE THE LAMPS AT LEAST ONCE PER YEAR (PREFERABLY AT THE ONSET OF INCREASED FLIGHT ACTIVITY AFTER THE WINTER).
Disconnect the power to the system before attempting to change the lamp. Wait for the lamp to cool before touching. The lamp has a push fit base, to remove the lamp, simply pull it upwards and it will unclip from the lamp holder. Installing the new lamp is a reversal of the above procedure.
