Product Information

The product is a lighting fixture manufactured by Cooper Lighting Solutions. The product code is IB51929421. The fixture comes with a gear tray, mounting brackets, and wire management clips. The fixture has a green ground screw provided in the proper location and should not be relocated. The product specifications and dimensions are subject to change without notice.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Before installation, turn off the power at the main fuse/breaker box.
  2. Remove the lens, lamps, driver/ballast cover, lamp holders, and driver/ballast from the existing fixture if applicable.
  3. Carefully open the carton, remove the gear tray from the carton. The mounting brackets come in a folded position from the factory, bend the mounting brackets to roughly 75 degrees for installation.
  4. Using 2 TEK screws, attach the gear tray tethers to the existing fixture.
  5. Connect all of the fixture wires to power supply wires: White to White, Black to Black, and optional Blue wire for EM version. If applicable connect Purple and Pink* wires to dimming system wires. Use provided Green screw to connect ground wire to existing fixture.
  6. Additional wire management clips are provided in hardware bag and can be installed as needed.
  7. Before installation, clean the sides of the existing fixture to remove any oil, dirt, or grease. Then remove the protective cover over the tape by pulling on the tab. The tape will ONLY TEMPORARILY hold the gear tray in place and is NOT designed to hold the gear tray in place permanently.
  8. To install, place the gear tray over existing fixture, making sure the gear tray sits tight against the existing channel and all of the wires are inside of the existing fixture channel. Then FIRMLY press the mounting brackets against the channel to seat the tape properly.
  9. Fasten the mounting brackets to the sides of the existing channel using the TEK screws. Install 1 TEK screw on each side of the mounting brackets, for a total of 4 different places.

  5. Using 2 TEK screws, attach the gear tray tethers to the existing fixture. (Figure 2.)COOPER-LIGHTING-SSRK-Metalux-Surface-Strip-Retrofit-Kit- \(2\)

  6. Connect all of the fixture wires to power supply wires: White to White, Black to Black and optional Blue wire for EM version. If applicable connect Purple and Pink wires to dimming system wires (Figure 3). Use provided Green screw to connect ground wire to existing fixture.COOPER-LIGHTING-SSRK-Metalux-Surface-Strip-Retrofit-Kit- \(3\)
Constructions built before Jan 2022 may have gray wire for 0-10 dimming control present. In these cases, the installer will label the gray building wire as a 0-10 dimming wire and connect to our product’s pink 0-10V dimming control wire. Reference NFPA70 (2020 NEC), section 410.69.

  7. Additional wire management clips are provided in hardware bag and can be installed as needed.

  8. The mounting brackets have tape on each end to help assist with installation. Before installation, clean the sides of the existing fixture to remove any oil, dirt or grease. Then remove the protective cover over the tape by pulling on the tab. The tape will ONLY TEMPORALLY hold the gear tray in place and is NOT designed to hold the gear tray in place permanently. (Figure 4.)

  9. To install, place the gear tray over existing fixture, making sure the gear tray sits tight against the existing channel and all of the wires are inside of the existing fixture channel. Then FIRMLY press the mounting brackets against the channel to seat the tape properly.

  10. Fasten the mounting brackets to the sides of the existing channel using the TEK screws. Install 1 TEK screw on each side of the mounting brackets, for a total of 4 different places. (Figure 5.)

  11. Install lens as applicable.

  12. Turn breaker on and energize the fixture to verify light turns on.
    Optional EM Mounting (Steps 1-4)

  13. EM UNIT – Install EM unit into existing fixture channel. EM unit should be mounted so that there is sufficient cable length to make all connections to LED driver and EM test switch. Mount EM unit on the opposite end of the channel, so it will not interfere with the driver that is attached to the gear tray. (Figure 6.)

  14. Wiring – Remove accessory bracket before installing the gear tray (Figure 7.) Hang SSRK Gear tray to allow for wiring (Figure 8.), make the connection between EM unit and LED Driver. Route the EM unit test switch wire to end of gear tray with slots at the end, feed the wire though a socket track hole if applicable. When mating the gear tray to the channel, guide the EM test switch wire through the corresponding slot on the gear tray to make sure the EM wire is accessible to connect to the EM test switch.

  15. Connect the EM unit white cable connector to the test switch and then reinstall the accessory bracket, making sure the cable is inside of the accessory bracket (Figure 9). Wire incoming power connections (ensure power is off).

  16. Install Lens if applicable, then power the unit and test functionality of all components, do not remove RED Stop sign on EM Test Switch until power is applied to the charging circuit of EM Unit to prevent battery discharge.

Tandem 8Ft Versions Of Product

Install both 4-foot gear trays just like standalone fixtures, but before attaching the gear trays to the existing fixture channels, connect the Blue/Red wire male connector to Blue/ Red wire female connector from LED driver output, to power second gear tray, as shown in (Figure 10). Secure wires with wire clips.COOPER-LIGHTING-SSRK-Metalux-Surface-Strip-Retrofit-
