Frequently Asked Questions

Is this compatible with mac osx Sierra?

I have been on with Brother and apple support for what seems like hours, and no matter what I do, or how many times I go through setting things up, I cannot get this machine to print the two different sizes of paper, it’s a mess…I guess it’s going back. Tried it with my Mac and a Windows laptop.

Can this printer perform duplex printing from the multi-purpose tray?

Yes, it performs duplex printing from the multi-purpose tray…just did so today

Can this printer easily print on card stock?

In addition to the regular paper tray, there is a separate front-facing pull- down multi-purpose (“MP”) tray for printing envelopes, labels, and “thick paper”-which I believe would include card stock; I use 24lb paper (thicker than usual) in the regular tray and the prints are great (except for photos, which are pretty crappy).

Is the dash toner replacement system mandatory? can you opt-out?

As I recall, yes. I believe I unchecked the Dash Toner Replacement System box during setup.

Can this printer use the older tn 720 or tn 750 toner cartridges?

No, the Brother HL-L5200DW is not compatible with the older toner TN720 or TN750.

Does this come with a USB cable?

A USB cable is not included with the purchase of your Brother HL-L5200DW. A list of components included with the machine is printed on the outside of the carton.

Will I be able to install this printer on a computer that does not have internet?

Yes, the Brother HL-L5200DW can be installed on the computer via USB. For more information, feel free to contact Brother Customer Service directly.

Does this take TN 750 replacement toner?

The HL-L5200DW use the TN820 or TN850 toners.

Can I print business checks?

Yes. You’ll need to set print settings to draw from the upper feed (the front panel in the photo here opens up as a 2nd feed) for most business check styles.

What max amps does this printer draw?

The Brother HLl5200DW machine has a power consumption when printing of approximately 620 W at 77 °F (25 °C) .

Does it scan and is it color?

No, it does not have any scanning abilities and it prints in black ink only.
