Safety Information
- Do not use the thermometer if:
- It appears to be damaged.
- It does not carry out the desired measurement.
- When replacing the battery, make certain of the correct polarity.
- Only use batteries as described in the Specifications section.
- Use the thermometer only as specified in this manual, or the protection provided by the thermometer might be impaired.
- Thermometers must be stored in a dry and closed area. If a thermometer is transported in extreme temperatures, a 2 hour recovery time is required before use.
Warning
Shock danger. Supplied thermometer is not intended for contact with live
electrical circuits.

Introduction
The Amprobe models TPP1 and TPP2 are mini-thermometers with a Negative
Temperature Coefficient (NTC) sensor allowing for simple and quick temperature
measurement. Both models are available in Fahrenheit and Celcius versions.
Model TPP1
Immersion thermometer for measuring the temperature in air, liquid,
or powdery materials.
Model TPP2
Thermometer with flat surface probe.
The manual contains information to allow you to safely operate and maintain
the TPP series of digital mini-thermometers. Please read the manual before
using the mini-thermometer.
Warning
Before making a measurement, verify that the surface to be measured is not
electrically live. Failure to comply can lead to operator injury or instrument
damage.
Caution
Follow the specified thermometer measurement ranges.
Caution
To avoid burns, only touch the unit under test using the measurement probe.
Making a Measurement
- Turn the thermometer on with the ON/OFF button.
- Bring the surface or material to be measured into contact with the temperature sensor.
- Wait until a steady value is displayed. The time required to obtain an accurate measurement depends on the application and may take up to 30 seconds.
- **** Hazardous temperatures maybe present at unit under test if H (HOLD) is present on display.
- You can press the HOLD button to store the measurement value. H appears in the display when the thermometer is in Hold mode.
- Before making a measurement, turn the HOLD function OFF.
- Overload or underload conditions appear as OL or -OL on the thermometer display.
For the most accurate measurement results, follow the guidelines below:
- When measuring liquid, paste, or solid material, the insertion depth of the sensor should be approximately 30 mm (1.18 in).
- For surface temperature measurement, there must be reasonable heat contact between the sensor and the surface to be measured.
The surface and the sensor should be clean and the sensor must be place vertically on the surface. The use of a thermal conductivity paste is suggested.
Cleaning
- Turn the thermometer OFF prior to cleaning.
- Clean the thermometer using a damp cloth and household detergent.
- Never use acid detergents or solvents for cleaning.
- Do not use the thermometer until it is completely dry.
Replacing the Battery
If you can’t turn on the thermometer, or if the display is dim after you turn it on, the battery needs to be replaced.
To replace the battery
- Pry open the upper case cover.
- Remove the discharged battery.
- Insert the new battery.
- Replace the upper case cover.
