General safety instructions
When using a power tool, basic safety measures must be observed to prevent a risk of fire, electric shock and injury of persons, including the following: Please read and follow all these instructions before putting the appliance into operation. Keep the safety instructions for future reference! The appliance has not been designed to be used by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or with a lack of experience / knowledge, unless being supervised by a person responsible for their safety or having received instructions on how to use the appliancefrom such person. Children should be supervised to make sure they donot play with the appliance. Always tell children and unauthorised person to stay away from the appliance.
The appliance may only be operated with an RCD (max. fault current 30mA). Before putting the appliance into operation, a qualified electrician must check that the required electrical safety measures are taken. In doing so, national regulations must be complied with. Electrical connection must be provided through a socket. Care must be taken to make sure the connecting socket is away from water and moisture and the plug is protected against moisture. Check the voltage. The technical specifications on the type plate must correspond with the mains voltage. Before putting the appliance into operation, check the electric cable and/or socket for damage. To avoid danger, a damaged power cable must be replaced by the manufacturer. Do not repair the cable yourselves under any circumstances. If the appliance starts abnormally vibrating, turn off the engine and locate the cause immediately. Vibrations are usually a warning against a malfunction.
Keep the place of your work clean and tidy!
A mess in the place of work can result in injuries.
Consider the environment
- Do not expose the appliance to rain.
- Do not use the appliance in moist or wet conditions. Provide adequate lighting.
- Do not use the appliance near flammable liquids or gases.
Protect yourself against electric shock!
Avoid body contact with earthed parts.
Keep other persons in safe distance!
Do not let other persons, especially children, to touch the appliance or
cable. Do not let them access the place of your work.
Store your tools and appliances!
Tools and appliances not being used must be kept in a dry, locked place and
out of reach of children.
Do not overload your appliance!
You will work better and safer within the specified output range.
Use the right appliance!
Do not use appliances with weak performance for hard work. Do not use the tool
for purposes for which it has not been designed.
Wear appropriate work clothing!
Do not wear loose clothing or jewels as they could get caught by the rotating
parts. Non-slip shoes are recommended for outdoor works. Wear a hairnet if you
have long hair.
Use protective equipment!
Always wear safety glasses. Use a breathing mask for works where dust is
produced.
Do not use the cable for purposes for which it has not been designed!
Do not use the cable to pull the plug out of the socket. Protect the cable
from heat and sharp edges.
Avoid any abnormal body posture!
Keep a safe posture and keep balance at all times.
Treat your tools and appliances with care!
Keep your tools sharp and clean so that they could work better and safer.
Follow the servicing and tool replacement instructions. At regular intervals,
check the appliance cable and have it replaced by a recognised expert if
damaged. Periodically check the extension cable and replace it if necessary.
Keep the handles dry and with no oil and fat.
Pull the plug out of socket!
Pull the plug out of socket when the appliance is not in use, before servicing
and when changing any tool, e.g. sharpening stones. If an extension cable is
used, make sure the line voltage is equal to or higher than the appliance
voltage and that an earthed cable is used.
Do not leave the tool plug plugged in!
Before starting the appliance, always check that all wrenches and adjustment
tools are removed from the appliance.
Avoid accidental start-up!
When putting the plug to a socket, make sure the switch is off. Be careful!
Pay attention to what you are doing. Use common sense when working. Do not use
the appliance when you are tired.
Check the appliance for damage!
Before using the appliance, it is necessary to carefully check the protective
equipment or slightly damaged parts if functioning perfectly and in accordance
with the designation.
Check the moving parts if working perfectly, whether they are not seized or
damaged. All parts must be fitted properly and meet all conditions to ensure
proper operation of the appliance. Damaged protective equipment and parts must
be professionally repaired and replaced by an authorised specialised service
centre, unless otherwise provided in the Operating Instructions. Have any
damaged switches replaced in a customer service centre. Do not use tools where
the switch cannot be turned on and off.

Using other tools and accessories can pose a risk of injury.
Have your appliance repaired by a qualified electrician!
This appliance complies with the relevant safety regulations. Repairs may only
be executed by a qualified electrician, using original spare parts; otherwise,
the user could get injured.
Appliance-specific safety instructions
- The knife sharpener has exclusively been designed for dry sharpening. In any case, it must not come into contact with liquids.
- The knife sharpener may only be used to sharpen aluminium, steel and stainless steel knives without serrated edge, with a minimum blade length of 10 cm.
- Sparks are produced during sharpening. Keep the knife sharpener in safe distance from flammable liquids and materials.
- Do not touch the sharpening stone and knife immediately after use as they may be very hot.
- When the workpiece turns blue during sharpening, it is overheated and can get damaged. During sharpening, cool the workpiece in water at regular intervals and dry it out before further sharpening.
- The knife sharpener may only be used when the blade guides are fitted.

Operation
- Place the knife sharpener on a stable, flat surface.
- Take the knives that you want to sharpen; before starting to sharpen, clean the knives to make sure no food remains or fat can get on the sharpening stones.
- Connect the knife sharpener to mains.
- Press On/Off with your left thumb.
- Use your right hand to hold firmly the knife you want to sharpen. Caution! Keep your fingers away from the blade so that you do not get injured.
- Drag the blade slowly for 3-4 seconds with slight pressure, three times in turn through the blade slot “1“ for coarse sharpening (pic. 2, 3) and then three times in turn through the blade slot “2“ for fine sharpening (pic. 4,5).
- Start with the end of the blade, i.e. where the blade joins the handle and slowly move the knife towards you. Make sure to apply constant pressure on the knife so that the blade remains in constant contact with the sharpening disc. Sharpen the knife with one move, do not stop half way. When being sharpened, the knife blade should be passing in parallel to the table.
- Check the result and repeat the process if necessary until reaching the required sharpness.
- Knife sharpness can best be checked by cutting a tomato in two or cutting off a piece of paper.
- Press On/Off to stop the sharpening disc.
You must be very careful when handling knives being sharpened! Make sure only the knife blade comes into contact with the rotating sharpening disc. Never put fingers or items other than knives that you want to sharpen to the rotating sharpening disc.
Warranty
The warranty period is 12 months for commercial use, 24 months for consumers. It starts on the appliance purchase date. The warranty only applies to material or manufacturing defects. A proof of purchase clearly suggesting the purchase date must be submitted to claim a defect. The warranty excludes unauthorised use such as appliance overloading, use of force, damage caused by foreign influence, foreign items and a failure to follow these Operating Instructions and normal wear and tear.

Behaviour in case of emergency
Initiate first aid measures in case of injury and seek qualified medical help as soon as possible. Protect the injured person from other injuries and calm him/her down. First aid kit must always be available in the place of your work in case of accident in accordance with DIN 13164. Material taken out of the first aid kit needs to be supplemented right away. If help is needed, please provide the following details:

Use according to designation
The knife sharpeners may only be used to sharpen aluminium, steel and stainless steel knives without serrated edge, with a minimum blade length of 10 cm. The knife sharpener has exclusively been designed for dry sharpening. In any case, it must not come into contact with liquids. This appliance is a SHARPENING APPLIANCE and is not in any case suitable for works that must normally be performed by a bench grinder. No works other than those for which the appliance has been designed and which are described in the Operating Instructions may be performed with this appliance. Any other use is considered a use in conflict with the designations. The manufacturer will not be held liable for such damage. Please note that the appliance has not been designed for commercial use.
Disposal
The disposal instructions are based on icons placed on the machine or on its package. The description of the meanings can be found in the “Marking“ section.
Transport container disposal
The container protects the machine against damage during transport. Container
materials are usually selected based on their environment friendliness and
disposal method and can therefore be recycled. Returning the container back to
circulation saves raw materials and reduces waste disposal costs.Parts of the
container (e.g. foils, styropor) can be dangerous to children. Risk of
suffocation! Keep parts of the container out of reach of children and dispose
them as quickly as possible
Operator requirements
The operator must carefully read the Operating Instructions before using the appliance.
Qualification
No special qualification is necessary to use the appliance apart from detailed instructions by an expert.
Minimum age
The appliance may only be operated by persons over 16 years of age. An exception includes youngsters operating the appliance within their professional education to achieve necessary skills under trainer’s supervision.
Training
Using the appliance only requires appropriate instructions by an expert or reading the Operating Instructions. No special training necessary.

Important information for the customer
Please note that the appliance should in principle be sent back during or
after the warranty period in the original packaging. By this, any unnecessary
damage during transport and their oftencontroversial control will efficiently
be avoided. Only original packaging will optimally protect your appliance and
provide smooth settlement of your claim.
Troubleshooting
Maintenance and storing
Always pull the plug out of socket before performing any work. Only a properly maintained and well treated appliance can be a satisfactory aid. Insufficient maintenance and care may lead to unpredictable accidents and injuries. Keep the housing body free of any dust and dirt. Use a soft cloth and fine soap solution to clean the appliance. Avoid direct contact of aggressive cleaning agents with the appliance. Do not use any aggressive, volatile or corrosive agents. Once a year, have the knife sharpener checked by a qualified authorised professional. The appliance must be protected against moisture and dust. Keep the appliance covered in a dry and safe place, out of reach of children when the appliance is not going to be used any time soon.
Maintenance table
Replacing the sharpening discs
Have the following actions – replacement of sharpening stones – taken by
professionals. Do not forget that any warranty claim ceases to apply by
opening the housing body. To remove the sharpening stones, take out the
housing body cover by removing the six screws on the bottom of the appliance
(pic. 1/8). Use a size 8 open spanner to release the nuts of the sharpening
stones and replace them with new ones (set of sharpening stones for 94188,
product number: 94119). Pay special attention to the proper installation
position of the sharpening stones (coarse grain for knife slot 1 – fine grain
for knife slot 2). Tighten the fastening nuts of the sharpening stones and
screw the housing body.
