BS BATTERY Conventional Dry Battery
WARNING
Please read the instructions carefully before using the battery.
-
The brand could not be held responsible for the consequences of improper installation and/or misuse of the battery inside your vehicle. If you have any problem or doubt, for your security we recommend you to contact a professional.
-
Instructions must be followed for a safe use.
-
Wear eye protection.
-
Keep children away from acid and batteries.
-
Explosion hazard:
- A highly-explosive oxyhydrogen gas mixture occurs when charging batteries.
-
Fire, sparks, naked lights and smoking are prohibited:
- Avoid causing sparks when dealing with cables and electrical equipment and beware of electrostatic discharges.
- Avoid short-circuits.
-
Corrosive hazard:
Battery acid is highly corrosive:- Wear protective gloves and eye protection.
- Do not tilt battery, acid can escape from the degassing openings or vents.
-
First aid:
- EYES > Immediately hold eyes open and rinse immediately with plain water for at least 15 minutes. Consult a doctor without delay.
- SKIN > Quickly, but gently, wipe acid from skin. Remove any contaminated clothing or footwear and thoroughly wash the affected area with soap and water for at least 15 minutes. Consult a doctor without delay.
- SWALLOWED > Do not induce vomiting. Rinse out mouth with water, and if conscious, induce copious drinking of water or milk. Consult a doctor without delay.
-
Warning note:
- Do not expose batteries in direct daylight without protection.
- Discharged batteries can freeze, therefore it must be stored in an area free from frost.
-
Disposal:
- Take old batteries to a proper collection point.
- The instructions listed under part 1 must be followed during transportation.
- Never dispose old batteries in a domestic waste bin.
PRECAUTION BEFORE INSTALLATION
PREPARATION FOR FILLING
If your battery is equipped with, take off sealing and remove vent plugs only
right before filling with the electrolyte. If your battery is equipped with a
long exhaust tube, cut off its sealed end at about 3cm (1inch) from the lip.
If your battery has a short sealing tube, and is supplied with a separate long
tube, pull off the short one and replace with the long one. Cut the new tube
at the same length of the old one.
FILLING WITH ELECTROLYTE
Fill the battery with electrolyte (dilute sulphuric acid) with a density of
1,280.
Fill to the “upper level” as indicated on the battery.
The electrolyte temperature should not be more than 30°C (86°F) when filling.
Leave the battery standing for half an hour after filling.
Electrolyte level may fall during standing. Refill again to the “upper level”.
FIRST CHARGE
In order to optimize the life and power of your battery, an initial charge is
highly recommended.
Charge the battery with a Motorcycle battery charger that suits for this
size/type of battery with an output current 1/10th of the battery’s rated
capacity.
Let the battery settle for 1 or 2 hours after charging before checking the
voltage.
If the voltage is less than 12.8 volts, additional charging is necessary.
If the electrolyte level is found fallen has dropped after charging, fill with
distilled water up to the “upper level”.
After charging replace the vents plugs firmly, wash off acid spillage with
water, and dry the battery.
INSTALLATION
Fasten the battery firmly to vehicle. Be sure not to wrongly connect battery’s
positive and negative terminals. Do not fold or crimp the battery’s exhaust
tube.
It may cause explosion if the tube is crimped
MAINTENANCE SERVICE
- Check electrolyte level once a month.
- Add distilled water to restore the level.
- Never use electrolyte to restore the level.
- Keep the battery always clean.
- Apply grease around the terminals to prevent corrosion.
- Keep the exhaust tube free of folds and obstructions.
RECHARGING
Recharging is necessary when you find out that the lights get dim, the horn
get weak and/or when you keep the battery unused during more than one month.
Charge the battery with an output current of 1/10th of the battery’s rated
capacity.
Charge until the battery starts gassing freely and the specific gravity of
electrolyte rises to higher than 1,270.
NOTE
Many batteries contain a special chemical component that has been added to
reduce sulfate crystal deposits (which eventually prevents the battery from
accepting a charge).
It is a white chemical powder that may be visible before the battery is
activated, but it dissolves once the electrolyte is added. After charging the
battery, the specific gravity of electrolyte rises to 1,290 (at 20°C/86°F).
If the battery has not been used for a quite long time, extended recharging
time is required.
