Safety Notes
Please note the included General Safety Notes and the following safety notes to avoid malfunctions, damage or physical injury:
- Please read this manual carefully and use the unit only according to this manual.
- Dispose of used packaging material carefully or store it out of the reach of children. There is a danger of suffocation!
- Make sure the voltage corresponds to the type label on the unit.
- Please note the warning triangle. It parks all those instructions which are important for safety reasons. Observe these instructions as failure to do so could result in serious injury!
- Children and adolescents are not allowed to operate the chain saw. This prohibition does not apply to adolescents over the age of 16 under the supervision of training, only pass on the saw to persons who are familiar with this type and its handling. In any case, give instruction manual!
- Only use the chain saw as indicated in this manual for cutting wood or objects made of wood. Do not use the chain saw to saw plastic, masonry, or construction materials that are not made of wood. Use of the chain saw for improper use can lead to dangerous situations.
- The chain saw may only be operated by one person, other persons are forbidden to stay in the swiveling range of the chain saw. Pay special attention to children and pets.
- Make sure the chain saw is not touching anything and moving free. Firmly hold the chain saw in both hands when working. Keep all body parts away from the saw chain while the saw is running. Before starting the saw, make sure that the saw chain does not touch anything. When working with the chain saw, a moment of carelessness can cause clothing or body parts to be caught by the saw chain.
- Cutting with the chain saw when standing on a ladder, in a tree or in any other instable places in not allowed. Do not cut with the chain saw above shoulder height and do not saw with one hand.
- Use only original accessories and original replacement parts.
- When sawing converted timber and thin branches always use a strong support, such as a sawing trestle. Do not stack timber pieces. First time users should first practice cutting round logs on a sawhorse or stand.
- Do not work with the chain saw on a tree. When operating on a tree there is a risk of injury. Always make sure you stand firmly and only use the chain saw when you are standing on firm, safe and level ground. Slippery surfaces or unstable surfaces such as on a ladder can cause loss of balance or loss of control over the chain saw.
- When cutting a live branch, bounce it back. When the tension in the wood fibres is released, the taut branch can hit the operator and/or snatch the chain saw out of control. Do not cut free-hanging branches from below.
- Be particularly careful when cutting undergrowth and young trees. The thin material can get caught in the saw chain and hit you or unbalance you.
- Before cutting logs, secured in position. When working on sloping ground, make sure to work facing upwards.
- When working with a power tool outdoors, use only extension cords that are suitable for outdoor use.
- Damaged cables, couplings and plugs or connection cables that do not comply with the regulations must not be used! If the mains cable is damaged or cut through, pull out the mains plug immediately! If replacement of the connecting cable is required, this must be done by professionals to avoid any safety hazards.
- Never move the chain saw by pulling the cord. Make sure the cord cannot get caught in any way. Do not bend the cord and make sure the cord is always behind the machine.
- Should the appliance become damaged do not use it and have it repaired by a professional or contact our customer support department. Do not disassemble the appliance or try repairing it yourself.
- Keep the power tool by the insulated gripping surfaces, as the saw chain can come into contact with the own mains cable. The contact of the saw chain with a live line can put metal parts of the device under tension and cause an electric shock.
- Place the chain saw on the front handle in the off state, the saw chain away from your body. When transporting or storing the chain saw, always put on the protective cover. Careful handling of the chain saw reduces the likelihood of accidental contact with the running saw chain.
- Follow instructions for lubrication, chain tensioning and changing accessories. An improperly tensioned or lubricated chain can either rip or increase the risk of kickback.
- Keep handles dry, clean and free of oil and grease. Greasy, oily handles are slippery and cause loss of control.
- Switch off the chain saw before releasing the chain brake.
- Switch off the machine before putting it down.
- Before working on the machine, remove the plug from the socket.
- Only insert the plug into the socket when the machine is switched off.
- Working with the chain saw is only allowed to those who are well-rested and healthy, i.e. in good physical condition. If you are tired from work, take a break from work in good time. After drinking alcohol, do not work with the chain saw.
- Do not expose the chain saw to rain or bad weather. Ensure good lighting. Do not use power tools near flammable liquids or gases.
Personal Safety Equipment
- War safety goggles and ear protection. Other protective equipment for the head, hands, legs and feet is recommend-ed. Suitable protective clothing reduces the risk of injury from flying chip material and accidental contact with the saw chain.
Kickback
- A kickback is the result of wrong or incorrect use of the power tool. It can be prevented by appropriate precautions, as described below:
- Hold the saw in both hands with your thumb and fingers around the chain saw handles. Bring your body and arms into a position where you can withstand the kickback forces. If appropriate measures are taken, the operator can control the kickback forces. Never let go of the chain saw. Always hold the chain saw with your right hand on the rear handle and your left hand on the front handle. Holding the chain saw in reverse working posture increases the risk of injury and must not be used.
- Avoid abnormal posture and do not saw above shoulder height. This avoids unintentional contact with the rail tip and allows for better control of the chain saw in unexpected situations.
- Always use replacement guide bars and chains specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement guide bars and saw chains can cause chain breakage and/or kickback.
- Follow the instructions for sharpening and maintaining the saw chain. Too low depth limiters increase the tendency to kickback.
- Never touch the wood with the tip of the guide bar or saw with the tip! Always observe the tip of the guide bar. Be careful when resuming already started cuts.
- Start cutting with the saw chain running!
- Always sharpen the saw chain correctly.
- Never saw through more branches at once! When touching make sure that no other branch is touched.
- When cutting to length, pay attention to closely adjacent stems. If possible, use a sawhorse.
Residual Risks
- Even if you operate this power tool correctly, residual risks always remain. The following hazards may occur in connec-tion with the design and construction of this power tool:
- Injuries and property damage caused by flying parts.
- Ear damage if you do not wear suitable hearing protection or use the power tool for a long period of time.
- Health damage resulting from hand-arm vibrations if the power tool is used for an extended period of time or is not properly managed and maintained.

Operation
Before first Use
Remove the chain saw and all accessories out of the packing and check all
parts for damage in transit. Keep packaging materials out of reach of
children. There is risk of suffocation.
Assembling the Guide Bar and the Saw Chain
Always use gloves when handling the chain.
Unplug from power mains before mounting the saw chain on the machine.
-
Place the chain saw on a level surface.
-
Remove the cover (10) by screwing the quick tensioning screw cap (9) counter clockwise.
-
Slide the chain around the chain wheel and into the slot of the guide bar.
Observe the right chain running direction. On the cover you will find a symbol with chain links. Make sure to correctly position the chain links, so the links match the symbol. All chain links must be properly in the guide groove of the guide bar.
-
Re-attach the cover on the motor housing.
-
Now tighten the quick tension screw cap (9) on the housing in order to tighten the saw chain.
Chain Tension
- Adjust the chain tension with the quick tension screw cap (9). Turning the screw cap clockwise will increase the chain tension and turning the screw cap counter clockwise will reduce the chain tension.
- The saw chain should be tensioned that way, so the chain is not too loose, and it should be possible to lift it off the guide bar a few millime-tres.
Chain Saw Oil
The chain saw is delivered without chain saw oil. Fill into the oil tank
chain saw oil before using for the first time. Operating the chain saw without
chain saw oil will damage the chain saw and the guide bar.
- Place the chain saw on a level surface and unscrew the oil tank cap (4).
- Only use bio-degradable chain saw oil. On the flag window of the filling hole you can check the oil level.
- While filling, make sure dirt cannot get into the oil tank. Dirt can damage the built-in oil pump.
- While cutting, make sure the oil level does not drop under the minimum mark.
- Note temperature conditions: Different ambient temperatures require lubricants with a very different viscosity. At low temperatures, you need low viscosity oils to produce proper lubricating. If you now use the same oil in summer, this would be further liquefied by the higher temperatures alone. As a result, the lubricating film can tear off, the chain would be overheated and can be damaged.
- Regularly check the automatic chain lubrication function to prevent overheating and damage to the guide bar and saw chain. To do this, aim the guide bar tip against a smooth surface (board, part of a tree) and let the chainsaw run. If an increasing trace of oil appears during this process, the automatic chain lubrication works properly.
Saw Chain
- Only use sharp chains. Dull chains can easily get jammed.
- The service life of a saw chain mainly depends on enough lubrication and correct tensioning.
- Since the saw chain heats up by sawing and thereby changes its length, check the chain tension and regulate it if necessary. This is especially necessary for new saw chains.
- Do not tension a hot chain. After cooling down, the chain may shorten and become over tensioned. After finishing work, relax the saw chain.
Fix the Extension Cord
First, form a loop into the cord and slide the loop through the opening of the
handle in order to fix the extension cord into the plastic hook. By doing
this, you will avoid an accidental cut-off from power mains while working with
the chain saw.
LED
When the yellow LED turns on, the saw chain is ready for operation.
The green LED turns on during work.
When the red LED turns on, the chain saw is overloaded.
When the LED does not turn on after connecting to power mains, the chain brake
is activated.
Start-up
- After mounting the chain saw and checking the oil level, connect the plug with power mains. The LED turn on yellow.
- To switch on the machine, first press the safety lock-off (13) and then press the ON/OFF switch (3). You can now release the safety lock-off.
- The chain saw is equipped with soft start. The machine will reach its max. speed after 2 – 3 seconds. Wait until the machine has reached high engine speed and then start cutting. During operation the green LED will turn on. If the red LED turns on, the machine is overloaded.
- To switch off the chain saw, release the ON/OFF switch. The chain will immediately stop while the machine is still running out.
Handguard
- The chain brake is a protective mechanism that is triggered by the front hand guard (6). When the chain saw is jerked back by a kickback, the chain brake trips and stops the saw chain immediate-ly. The kickback brake will be activated by a forceful contact with the front hand guard. This strike occurs when the machine is kicked upwards, and the front hand pushes the hand guard.
- Regularly check the function of the chain brake. To do this, fold the hand guard forward (in direction OFF) and briefly switch on the chain saw. The saw chain must not start. Pull back the front hand guard (in direction ON) until it engages, in order to release the chain brake.
- Attention! Do not use the saw if the guards do not work properly. Do not attempt to repair safety-related protective devices yourself but contact our service or a similarly qualified workshop.
General Working Hints
- Before each work, check the condition of the chain saw, the level of the oil tank, the tension and the condition of the saw chain as well as the chain brake.
- Wear close-fitting protective clothing. When felling and forestry work, be sure to wear a protective helmet with integrated hearing and face protection. This provides protection against falling branch-es and rebounding branches.
- Always run the power cord behind the machine. Lay the power cord so that it is not caught by branches or the like during sawing.
- The electric saw must not be used for forestry work (for felling and de-foresting). The necessary mobility and safety of the saw guide is not guaranteed here by the cable connection!
- Do not use the chain saw and the guide bar for lifting and scooping when removing pieces of wood or other.
- Always stand on slopes when working on sloping ground. When felling, only stop sideways from the falling tree. When returning to the felled section, be aware of falling branches. Pay attention to roll-up tree trunks.
- Delimbing work may only be carried out by trained persons! Risk of injury! Do not carry out delimbing work on the trunk.
- Lancing and longitudinal cuts may only be carried out by specially trained persons (increased risk of kickback). Apply longitudinal cuts at as shallow an angle as possible. Here, special care should be taken as the claw stop cannot be used.
- Sawing wood that is under tension requires special care! Under tension wood, which is released by sawing from the tension, sometimes reacts completely uncontrolled. This can lead to severe or even fatal injuries. Such work may only be carried out by trained professionals.
- Do not cut free-hanging branches from below.
- Be careful when cutting splintered wood. Saw-cut pieces of wood can be carried along (risk of injury!)
- Switch off the chain saw before putting it down. Engage the chain brake after switching off the machine. If the machine is temporarily not used, it should be parked in such a way that nobody can be endangered. If multiple cuts are made, switch off the electric saw between cuts
- Try to minimize the impact of vibration as much as possible. Exemplary measures to reduce vibration exposure include wearing gloves while using the chain saw and limiting working time.
- Pull the chain saw out of the wood only with a running saw chain.
- Fix the claw stop firmly before making a cut, then saw into the wood with the saw chain running. The saw is pulled up the rear handle and guided on the front handle. The claw stop serves as a fulcrum. Repositioning is done with light pressure on the front handle. Retract the saw slightly. Lower the claw stop and raise the rear handle again.
Avoiding dangerous Situations while Cutting
The most common reactive forces are: kick-back, pull-in and pushback.
-
Kickback
Kickback may cause deadly injuries.
If kickback occurs, the chain saw will be rapidly kicked back in direction to the operator.
Kickback may occur:- when the tip of the guide bar touches a hard object,
- when the saw chain on the guide bar tip is jammed while cutting.
To avoid the Risk of Kickback,
- make sure no body parts are in the extended swing range of the saw chain,
- always hold the chain saw firmly with both hands. The thumb and the finger should grip the handles of the chain saw,
- always keep safe stand in order to be able to withstand the back- ward motion,
- never cut over shoulder height,
- do not start cutting with the tip of the guide bar or inserting the tip of the guide bar into the wood first.
Pushback
While cutting with the top of the guide bar the saw chain may touch a hard
object in the wood. This will pinch the saw chain and pushback the machine in
direction to the operator.
Pull-in
While cutting with the bottom part of the guide bar, the saw chain may touch a
hard object in the wood. This will rapidly pull the machine into the log.
Reduce the risk of sudden strikes by inserting the claw stops (14) into the
wood first and then start cutting.
Right Behaviour for Basic Cuts – Felling, Limbing and Cutting
Felling Trees
-
When felling trees make sure not to endanger any person, not to strike any utility lines or cause any property damages.
-
When standing on an uphill terrain always stand on the uphill side of the terrain as the tree is likely to roll or slide downhill.
-
Before felling a tree, plan an escape path and clean the path if necessary. The escape path should extend back and diagonally to the rear of the expected line of fall.
-
Before felling is started, consider the natural lean of the tree, the location of larger branches and the wind direction to judge which way the tree will fall.
-
Remove dirt, stones, loose bark, nails, stables and wire from the tree.
Making the Notching Undercut
- Make a notch of 1/3 of the diameter of the tree. Cut perpendicular to the direction of falls.
- First, make the lower horizontal notching cut. This will help to avoid pinching either the saw chain or the guide bar when the second notching cut in being made.
Making the Dropping Cut
- Make the dropping cut at least 50 mm higher than the horizontal notching cut.
- Make the dropping cut parallel to the horizontal notching cut. Make the dropping cut so enough wood is left to act as a hinge. The hinge wood keeps the tree from falling in the wrong direction. Do not cut through the hinge. As the dropping cut gets close to the hinge the tree should start falling.
- If there is any change in the desired falling direction or the tree may rock back and jam the saw chain, stop cutting before the dropping cut is complete and use wedges of wood, plastic or aluminum to open the cut and drop the tree along the desired line of fall.
- When the tree begins to fall, remove the chain saw from the cut, stop the motor, put down the chain saw and use the planned escape path to retreat. Make sure not to stumble and be alert to overhead falling limbs.
Limbing
Limbing is removing branches from a fallen tree.
- While limbing, do not limb larger lower limbs which support the log off the ground.
- Cut all small limbs in one cut.
- Branches that are under tension should be cut from the bottom up to avoid pinching the chain saw.
Bucking a Log
Bucking is cutting a log into lengths.
-
Make sure that your footing is firm and your weight is evenly distributed on both feet.
-
If possible, raise and support the log by using limbs, logs or chocks. According to the location of the log, cut as follows:
-
When the log is supported along its entire length, start cutting from the top. While cutting, make sure not to touch the ground with the guide bar.
-
When the log is supported on one end, first cut 1/3 of the diameter from the underside. Then make the finished cut by cutting from the top and
-
Meet the first cut.
-
When the log is supported on both ends, first cut 1/3 of the diameter from the top and then make the finished cut by cutting 2/3 of the diameter from the underside to meet the first cut.
-
Chen cutting on a slope away terrain, always stand on the uphill side of the log. When sawing through the log, to maintain complete control, release the cutting pressure near the end of the cut without relaxing your grip on the chain saw handles. Make sure the chain saw does not contact the ground. After completing the cut, wait for the saw chain to stop before removing the machine.
-
When cutting limbs under tension, always be alert for spring back. There is risk of injury! Cut such limbs from the underside in order to avoid jamming the chain saw.
-
Always be alert when cutting young trees. Thin material can be jammed in the saw chain.
-
The chain saw is not designed for trimming bushes.
Cutting thick Branches
- When cutting off larger branches, you should first cut into the branch from below. First cut into the branch from below outside the place where you intend to cut off the branch. The cut should go from one third to halfway through the branch. This prevents the branch from buckling when you cut into the branch from the top outside the first cut. Finally, cut off the stump with one clean cut.
Maintenance
- Before cleaning and maintaining the chain saw, disconnect the plug from power mains.
- The guide bar has to be replaced, if the guide groove is worn.
- Effective working with the chain saw is only possible if the saw chain is in good condition and sharp. This also reduces the risk of kickback.
- The saw chain can be sharpened in a specialist workshop. Do not try to sharpen the saw chain yourself if you do not have the proper tool and experience.
- Always follow the instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning and changing accessories. An improperly tensioned or lubricated chain may either break or increase the risk of kickback.
- Replace dull saw chains and have the chains sharpened professionally.
Cleaning and Storing
- Do not wipe the housing of the machine with sharp detergents or aggressive chemicals in order not to damage the surfaces.
- Always keep the handles free from oil in order to have a secure grip.
- Regularly clean the clamping mechanism by blowing out with compressed air or cleaning with a brush. Do not use tools for cleaning.
- Always switch off the chain saw when transporting or carrying the machine. Place the chain guard over the guide bar.
- If the chain saw is not operated for long period of time, empty the oil tank.
- Store the chain saw indoors in a dry and dust-free place. Protect the machine from dust and extreme temperatures.
