  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids or fumes, gases or dust. Power tools could create sparks which may ignite the gases or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders at a safe distance while operating the power tool.

Electrical safety

  • Please make sure that power tool plugs match the outlet. Do not ever modify the plug in any way. Do not use adapter plugs with earthed power tools. Using unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded materials or objects, such as radiators, pipes, ranges and refrigerators. There is an tremendous risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or any other wet conditions. Water entering a power tool could increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not abuse the power cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the electric tool. Keep the cord in a safe distance from heat, oil, sharp edges and any moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • When operating an electric power tool outdoors, use an extension cable which has the appropriate specifications for outdoor use. Use of a an extension cable suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
  • If operating a power tool in a damp location cannot be avoided, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating the power tool. Do not use the power tool if you are feeling tired or are under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating the power tool may result in serious personal injury.

  • Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the power switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the power tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the power switch or connecting power tools that have the switch in the on position to a power source can lead to accidents.
  • Remove any adjusting keys or wrenches before turning on the power tool. An adjusting key or a wrench left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
  • Do not overreach. Keep balance and proper footing at all times. This helps the operator have better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from any moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery and/or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

  • Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle and only when it is turned off.
  • When transporting or storing the hedge trimmer always fit the cutting device cover.
  • Proper handling of the hedge trimmer will reduce the possibility of sustaining an injury from the cutter blades.
  • DANGER Keep hands away from the blade. Contact with the blade will result in serious personal injury.
  • Use both hands when operating the hedge trimmer. Using one hand could cause loss of control and result in serious personal injury.
  • Keep the cable away from the cutting area. During operation the cable may become hidden in shrubs and can be accidentally cut by the blade.
  • Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only to protect yourself in case the cutter blade contacts hidden wiring. Cutter blades contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.
  • Do not overreach and keep your balance at all times. Walk when operating the power tool, never run.
  • Only touch the moving parts if the power tool is disconnected from the power supply and once the moving parts have come to a complete stop.
  • Always wear eye and hearing protection. Wear a protective mask if necessary. Dress properly, do not wear loose clothing or jewellery that could get caught in the moving parts of the unit. Safety non-skid footwear should always be worn. Long hair should be tied back.

General instructions

  • Check the product as well as accessories for damage before each use. Do not use the product if it is damaged or shows wear.
  • Double check that all parts are properly fixed.
  • Always hold the handles of the power tool. Keep the handles dry and free from lubricants to ensure you have a safe grip.
  • Ensure that the air vents are always unobstructed and clear. Clean them if necessary with a soft brush. Blocked air vents may lead to overheating and damage the product.
  • Switch the power tool off immediately if other persons enter the working area. Always let the product come to complete stop before putting it down.

  • It is recommended to cover the blades when your work is finished. Remove this cover before you turn on the machine (Fig. 2).

Cutting procedure
Warning: Always lubricate the cutting blade with protective spray before use and storage.

  • Make sure that the work area is free of rocks, wires, debris and other hard objects. If an object cannot be removed, mark its location so that you can avoid touching it with the blade. Objects such as wires and cords can become entangled in the cutting blade and cause injury.
  • Turn on the machine and wait until it reaches full speed before cutting
  • Keep your body and feet at a safe distance from the cutting head.

Cutting tips
Warning: Never cut near electric cords or lines. If the blade gets stuck on any electrical cord or line, DO NOT TOUCH THE BLADE! IT CAN BECOME ELECTRICALLY LIVE AND VERY DANGEROUS. Continue to hold the hedge trimmer by the insulated rear handle or lay it down and away from you in a safe manner. Only attempt to free the blade from the line or cord once you are certain that the line or cord is no longer electrically live. Touching a live electric cord or line, the blade or other conductive parts of the hedge trimmer while it is electrically live will result in death by electrocution or serious injury.

  • Before starting the hedge trimmer, hold the unit with both hands with the cutting blades directed away from you. Always use the hedge trimmer as intended.
  • Do not force the hedge trimmer through heavy shrubbery. This can cause the blades to bind and slow down. If the blades slow down, reduce the working pace.
  • Do not try to cut stems or twigs that are larger than 3/4 inches (1.9 cm) thick, or those obviously too large to be cut by the power tool. Use a non-powered hand saw or pruning saw to trim large stems.
  • If the blades get jammed, turn off the power tool, wait for the blades to stop moving completely and disconnect it from the power supply. Afterwards, attempt to remove the obstruction.
  • Always hold the hedge trimmer with both hands when operating. Use a firm grip on the handles. Use slow, sweeping movements when cutting with this power tool.
  • Wear gloves when trimming thorny or prickly growth. When trimming new growth, use a wide sweeping movements, so that the stems are fed directly into the cutting blade. Older growth will have thicker stems and will be trimmed easiest by using a sawing movement.

Warning: Never hold shrubs with one hand and operate the hedge trimmer with the other. Improper operation of the hedge trimmer could result in serious injury.

Switching on the power tool

  1. Remove the blade cover.
  2. Connect the power tool to a power source.
  3. Press the front switch and the rear trigger at the same time (Fig. 3).

Note: For safety reasons, this tool starts only when two triggers are pressed.
Note: If an extension cord is required, hook the cord to prevent tripping (Fig. 4).

  • For easier operation and to prolong the blade’s life, lubricate the hedge trimmer blade before and after each use.
  • Disconnect the product from the power supply. Lay the hedge trimmer on a flat surface. Apply light weight machine oil along the edge of the top blade (Fig. 5).

Note: If you will be using the hedge trimmer for an extended period of time, it is advisable to oil the blade periodically.

Sharpening the blade

  • Allow the blades of the hedge trimmer to come to a stop in the position shown in figure 6. This will create space between the cutter teeth and the guard teeth and allow for easy sharpening.
  • Disconnect the power tool from the power supply.
  • Clamp the blade in a vise and sharpen the sharp edges of each tooth with an 8 inch (20 cm) smooth round file, 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) or 7/32 inches (0.55 cm) in diameter. Be sure to retain the original angle of the tooth when filing.
  • Remove the hedge trimmer from the vise, reconnect it to a power source and restart the hedge trimmer.
