INSTRUCTIONS

INSTRUCTIONS AND WARNINGS FOR VENTED AND NON-VENTED, TYPE I HARD HAT

WARNING

  • 3M™ Hard Hats help provide LIMITED head protection only. Misuse or failure to follow warnings and User Instructions may result in serious personal injury or death. For proper use, see supervisor, User Instructions, or call 3M Personal Safety Division (PSD) Technical Service in the U.S.A. at 1-800-243-4630. In Canada, call 1-800-267-4414.

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE. Failure to follow these warnings and instructions may result in serious bodily injury or death. Refer to label and/or markings inside hard hat for specific required information and performance standard(s).

  • Type I hard hats are designed to help provide limited head protection from small falling objects, such as small tools, nuts and bolts, etc., striking the top of the hard hat. Do not rely on a Type I hard hat to provide front, side, or rear impact protection.

  • Do not use for protection against larger objects, severe impact or penetration, or for objects travelling at accelerated speeds – avoid
    those areas.

  • If the hard hat has sustained an impact, dispose of it immediately, even if damage is not visible.

  • The hard hat must be properly assembled, fit securely on the head, and suspension must be adjusted to a snug fit.

  • Never alter, puncture, modify or engrave the shell or suspension.

  • Do not use paints, solvents, chemicals, adhesives, gasoline or like substances on this hard hat – doing so can lessen the protection from impact and penetration.

  • Electrical warning: Avoid areas where the chance of severe electrical shock exists. Vented helmets do not meet the Class G (General) or

  • Class E (Electrical) requirements and provide no electrical protection. Non-vented versions meet Class G and E requirements as providing limited electrical protection.

  • Do not use this hard hat as a vehicular or recreational hard hat.

  • Do not store objects between the suspension and the shell, as the hard hat will not function as intended, and you will receive less head protection.

  • Inspect the hard hat, including the suspension and shell before and after each use. Replace the hard hat immediately if you notice any signs of wear, damage, abuse or degradation as this may be a sign that protection is reduced.

  • Do not use by an open flame.

  • Keep this plastic bag out of the hands of infants and children. It is not a toy and infants and children should not play with the bag. Wrapping of the bag around or over the head can cause serious injury or death.

CAUTION

Only 3M™ Hard Hat Accessories used in conjunction with 3M™ Hard Hats have been tested to applicable safety standards.
Exposure to direct sunlight and heat over time can lessen the ability of the hard hat to withstand impact and penetration. Store hard hat out of direct sunlight, including the dashboard or rear window shelf of a vehicle, and extreme heat over 120°F (49°C).

These 3M hard hats meet ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 Type I requirements.

  • Non-Vented Class G and E hard hats meet the requirements of ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 as providing limited electrical protection.
  • Vented Class C hard hats provide no electrical protection.

Refer to label and/or markings inside hard hat for specific required information and performance standard(s).

Cleaning and Storage

  • Clean the hard hat and suspension with mild soap and water. Rinse and wipe dry.
  • Do not use paints, solvents, chemicals, adhesives, gasoline or like substances on this hard hat – doing so can lessen the protection from impact and penetration.
  • Never alter, puncture, modify or engrave the shell or the suspension.
  • Exposure to direct sun light and heat over time can lessen the ability of the hard hat to withstand impact and penetration. Store hard hat out of direct sunlight, including the dashboard or rear window shelf of a vehicle, and extreme heat over 120°F (49°C).

Inspection and Replacement Recommendations
Inspect the hard hat, including the suspension and shell, before and after each use. Replace the hard hat immediately if you notice any signs of wear, damage, abuse or degradation as this may be a sign that protection is reduced.

  • If the hard hat has sustained an impact, dispose of it immediately, even if damage is not visible.
  • Inspect hard hat shell for any signs of breakage, gouges, cracks, dents, chalky appearance, discoloration or loss of color, craze pattern or any other signs of wear. Replace shell immediately if any signs of wear are present. Certain hard hat shells include a 3M™ Uvicator™ Sensor designed to change color when exposed to certain amounts of UV light (Figure 10). Replace hard hat shell when sensor turns white or immediately if any of the signs of wear described above are present. Even with no visible signs of wear and if the Uvicator sensor has not changed to white, 3M recommends the shell be replaced within five years depending on work environment.
  • Inspect head suspension plastic parts for breaks, cracks or loss of flexibility. Inspect straps for fraying or stitching that is loose or damaged. Replace suspension immediately if these or other signs of wear are present. Even with no visible signs of wear, 3M recommends to replace the hard hat suspension at least every twelve months.
  • Always use 3M replacement parts. This product works as a system, and use of unauthorized suspensions will reduce the protection you receive from this hard hat.
  • Never alter, puncture, modify or engrave the shell or the suspension. Any such change or structural modification will reduce the protection you receive from this hard hat.

Assembly Instructions – Suspension Installation
