Use

Preconditions for use

WARNING! Danger to life or risk of injury!
Improper use and failure to observe the following instructions can result in injury or death.

  • Only use the filtering devices if there are no doubts about the intended use or the conditions of use.
  • Observe the instructions below.
  • Strictly follow the applicable national regulations for using filtering devices (in Germany, e.g., BGR 190, in Australia and New Zealand, e.g., AS/NZS 1715:2009).
  • The ambient conditions (particularly the types and concentrations of contaminants) must be known. Use corresponding respiratory filters. If the contaminant is unknown, use only a self-contained (open-circuit) breathing apparatus or airline breathing apparatus.
  • Only use filtering devices if the air does not directly endanger the health or life of the user.
  • It must be ensured that the ambient atmosphere cannot change to the worse.
  • Do not use filtering devices for entering unventilated tanks, mines, canals, etc.
  • Do not use in oxygen-enriched atmospheres.
  • For use in potentially explosive atmospheres, treat the half mask with anti-static spray or use a water screen.
  • The oxygen content of the ambient air must not drop below the following limit values:
  • at least 17 vol.% oxygen in all European countries except the Netherlands, Belgium, and UK and
  • at least 19 vol.% oxygen in the Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • In other countries, observe the applicable national regulations. – Before first use, the entrepreneur/user must ensure the following (see European Directive 89/656/EEC):
  • the fit must be perfect, e.g. to ensure an absolutely tight fit,
  • the personal protective equipment must match other types of protective equipment worn at the same time (e.g., a protective jacket),
  • the personal protective equipment must be suitable for respective workplace conditions,
  • the personal protective equipment must meet the ergonomic and health requirements of the respective wearer of respiratory protective equipment.

Prior to Use

Inserting the respiratory filter

  1. Lift the tongues on the cap and remove the cap (see Figure B).
  2. Insert the particle filter into the receptacle of the mask. The collar of the filter must lie evenly on the receptacle brim.
  3. Place the cap the right way round on the mask body (see Figure C).
  4. Attach the mask to the mask body. To do so, push the 4 tongues over the 4 ribs of the mask body. Press the tongues firmly until they snap in.

Donning the half mask

  1. Pull the sewn ends of the harness up to the head harness.
  2. Pull the other ends of the harness through the cap until the locking hooks lie against the cap.
  3. Close the locking hooks.
  4. Place the lower harness around your neck (see Figure D).
  5. Place the mask body over your mouth and nose (see Figure E-1).
  6. Place the head harness on the back of your head, guiding the harness above your ears (see Figure E-2).
  7. Pull the ends of the harness until the half mask sits tight on your face (see Figure F).
  8. Check the air-tight fit of the half mask (see Figure G):
Hold the cap as tight as possible with both hands and exhale forcefully. If air escapes between your face and the mask body, retighten the harness or use a different size.

WARNING! Risk of poisoning!
Facial hair or features may impair the required tight fit of the half mask.

  • Only start the mission if the half masks fit tightly and the respiratory filters have been inserted.

Maintenance

Maintenance intervals

  1. For half masks in air-tight packaging, otherwise every 6 months.
  2. For half masks in air-tight packaging, every 2 years.

Cleaning and disinfecting
Clean and disinfect the half mask after each use.
WARNING! Risk of poisoning or death!
The elasticity in the sealing area could be reduced and the mask no longer fits properly.

  • Clean the mask body thoroughly so that there are no residues of skin care products on the mask body.

CAUTION! Risk of material damage!
Do not use solvents (e.g., acetone, alcohol) or cleaning agents with abrasive particles for cleaning and disinfection.

  • Only apply the described procedures and use the specified cleaning agents and disinfectants. Other agents, doses and exposure times may cause damage to the product.

NOTICE

Skin irritation!
Silicone is prone to absorb cleaning agents and disinfectants. In case of repeated cleaning or disinfection the agents can accumulate in the silicone.

  • Follow the cleaning and disinfection procedure exactly. Rinse all parts thoroughly under running water for 10 minutes.

For information on suitable cleaning agents and disinfectants and their specifications, see document 9100081 at www.draeger.com/IFU.

  1. Remove the respiratory filter.
  2. Prepare a cleaning solution consisting of water and a cleaning agent.
  3. Clean all parts with a soft cloth and cleaning solution.
  4. Thoroughly rinse all parts under running water.
  5. Prepare a disinfectant bath consisting of water and a disinfectant.
  6. Place all parts that require disinfection in the disinfectant bath.
  7. Thoroughly rinse all parts under running water.
  8. Allow all parts to air-dry or be dried in the drying cabinet (temperature: max. 60 °C). Keep out of direct sunlight.

Maintenance Work

Inspecting the half mask

  • Inspect all parts for cracks, brittleness or deformation.

Inspecting the exhalation valve disk

  1. Press the valve seat into the inner mask body and remove it from the mask.
  2. Grasp the exhalation valve disk at the edge and remove it from the valve seat.
  3. Check the valve seat for contamination and damage. If necessary, wipe it clean with a disposable cloth.
  4. Press the exhalation valve disk into the valve seat until it engages. The disk should lie flat and even on the valve seat. Replace the valve disk if necessary.
  5. Insert the valve seat into the mask body so that the valve disk points to the outside.
  6. Press the valve seat into the groove of the mask body.

Transport

Transport the product in its original packaging.

Storage

Store the half mask without deformations in a dry and dust-free place. Storage temperature: -10 °C to 60 °C at <90 % relative humidity. Protect from direct sunlight and heat. Observe ISO 2230 and national regulations for the storage, maintenance, and cleaning of rubber products.
