Introduction

Your Essential III turntable has been handcrafted and rigorously tested by skilled technicians to give you years of enjoyable, trouble-free service.  One of the most influential musicians in modern history, George Harrison, is featured on this unique Pro-Ject Audio Systems and Universal Music Group collaboration! Essential III, an evolution of a milestone, serves as the turntable. A top-notch MDF frame, an acrylic platter, an Ortofon OM10 cartridge, a precision diamond-cut aluminum pulley, and a totally reworked motor control are just a few of the high-end, audiophile components it includes. Like George Harrison’s music, it has a dynamic yet soothing tone that is both musical and intricate, making them the ideal partners in crime.

Important
Your turntable was shipped partially disassembled in order to avoid damage to sensitive parts. Please check immediately to make sure that neither the packaging nor the device was damaged in transit. If you are missing parts or if the unit is damaged, please do not operate and contact your dealer.

SETUP

Platter and drive belt installation
Please remove the brown paper insert which holds the platter in the transport position. Put the felt mat on the top of the platter. Install the drive belt as shown in the following illustration.

Cartridge installation, stylus exchange
If you purchased this turntable in a package that included the cartridge, this has already been done for you. Install the cartridge into the aluminum headshell, using the appropriate hardware included with your cartridge. All cartridges with half-inch mounting holes can be fitted.

Switching on and off
Pressing the ON/OFF switch alternately starts or stops the motor.

Changing replay speed
To play 45 r.p.m., put the drive belt over the larger diameter part of the motor pulley. To revert to 33 r.p.m. repeat the proceedings using the smaller step on the pulley.

Connection to the amplifier
The record player has a captive tonearm signal lead for connection to the amplifier. Use the Phono input on your amplifier. Make sure that the phono input offers correct matching and amplification for the type of cartridge used. Line inputs (such as CD, Tuner, Tape, or Video) are not suitable. Take care to connect the left and right channels correctly. The right channel is usually marked red, the
left channel black or white. Check the manual supplied with your amplifier for relevant information. The earthing wire of the tonearm lead should be connected to the earth terminal on your amplifier (if provided).

If your amplifier does not have an input suitable for phono cartridges you will require a separate phono amplifier stage for MM or MC cartridges which is then connected between the record player and a free line level input of the amplifier.

Service
Should you encounter a problem that you are not able to alleviate or identify despite the above information, please contact your dealer for further advice. Only when the problem cannot be resolved
there should the unit be sent to the responsible distributor in your country. Guarantee repairs will only be affected if the unit is returned correctly packaged. For this reason, we recommend keeping the original packaging.

Never return a record player without making sure that is it safely disassembled and correctly packaged in the original packaging according to the diagrams on the last page of this user guide. Please remove these parts and pack them separately: lid, counterweight, anti-skating weight, and belt. Fit the cartridge protection cap and the transport lock for the tonearm tube, prior to carefully packaging the record player.

Warranty
The manufacturer accepts no responsibility for damage caused by not adhering to these instructions for use and/or by transportation without the original packaging. Modification or change to any part of the product by unauthorized persons, release the manufacturer from any liability over and above the lawful rights of the customer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it come with a dust cover?

Yes, it comes with a dust cover. It’s a great turntable.

Is there a Bluetooth version with an acrylic platter and carbon tonearm?

No, there is not a model that offers a Bluetooth Audio output with that feature set. You can always add a Phono preamp with a built-in Bluetooth transmitter if you’d like to add Bluetooth Capability and Acrylic platters are available as an upgrade for most Pro-Ject turntables

How does it compare to the project debut esprit sb?

Sorry, I have no idea. This is my first Pro-Ject turntable. I mainly purchased it because of the George Harrison aspect but I had read great reviews about the Pro-Ject turntables so I had no doubts about purchasing this model. I’ve been very pleased with the turntable. Sorry I couldn’t provide you with a comparison review.

Can you use Bluetooth speakers?

No, this model does not offer a Bluetooth Audio output. You can always add a Phono preamp with a built-in Bluetooth transmitter if you’d like to add Bluetooth Capability

Is it any different than the Sgt pepper version of the project essential iii? there’s a $100 difference.

No difference other than artwork.

I’ve had the direct drive tt Staton t92 USB and it has done very well for me over the years, how well does this belt drive compare overall?

Honestly, I have no idea as this is my very first turntable and I have never heard the audio from a Staton. I did dabble with two older Technic direct drive turntables but did not own them . What I can tell you is that it is an amazing-sounding piece of equipment. The first album I played was the first pressing of George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass and the sheer dynamic range made it sound like I was using some of the older Dynaudio speakers with a Krell separate system ( I worked at a hi-fi shop named The Sound Factor in Encino, CA in the early 2000s). And all I was using was a Rotel integrated amp and B&W 603s.

Does this turntable come with a built-in phono preamp?

No, you’ll need a stereo receiver with a phono input or better an external phono preamp like our Phono Box S2.

I’m setting up this stylus (Ortofon om10) its recommended weight is 1.5 from what i read on the official page, should my scale read 1.5 or 1.50

Not sure what type of scale you’re using but when I weigh mine on my digital it reads 1.50

Hi, do you know if this turntable has a built-in pre-amp?

No it doesn’t. I purchased a Pro-Ject Tube Pre-Amp with this turntable and together it’s a very warm, full sound.

is this a full fledge Essential 3? Why is the price so low?

Yes, it’s the real McCoy alright! Price is low because a lot of people would feel that the artwork is too wild.

Does this turntable accept Bluetooth speakers?

This turntable has no Bluetooth sender built in. To connect it to a Bluetooth speaker use a Phono stage with Bluetooth, f.e. our Phono Box E BT.

Does this come with a hard plastic dustcover?

Yes

Is this just 33/45 or will it do 78’s also?

It’s just for 33/45 rpm records. Not made for 78 rpm. Overall, a great turntable.
