Preparation of the game
Memories the scene!
Age: 3 years plus
No. of players: 1 to 2 players
Contents: 8 wooden pieces, 2 tree trunks, 20 cards and 1 backdrop.
Educational features: The game develops observation, concentration and
memory.
Aim of the game: To observe a scene and reconstruct it from memory.
Preparation of the game: Assemble the backdrop and give each player a set
of pieces (1 tree trunk, 1 fox, 1 bear, 1 owl and 1 mushroom). The cards are
numbered 1 to 20 according to level of difficulty. It is recommended to start
with the easiest cards, removing the highest numbers. Shuffle the cards and
leave them to one side, face down.
To begin with young children can start by copying the cards or by playing with
the elements freely. To familiarize themselves with the elements and
positions, they can be encouraged to describe the scenes.
How to play
- For 1 player: Take a card and look at it for as long as necessary. Turn it face down and try to reconstruct the scene from memory. Then, check whether it has been reconstructed correctly.
- For 2 players: Each player should sit on the same side of the backdrop with their pieces. Turn over one card and place it between the players; look at it for as long as necessary and –when both players are ready – turn it face down and move the backdrop between the players so they cannot see each other’s construction. Both players should reconstruct the scene at the same time. The first to finish should raise their hand and check the card: if it is correct, they keep the card; if the first-finished is not correct, the other player can win the card if they finish their reconstruction correctly. If neither player reconstructs the card correctly, it should be discarded. The first player to obtain 3 cards is the winner.
Game variant: For 2 players: Sit on opposite sides of the backdrop. Take it in turns to choose a card or construct a scene freely, describing it to the other player, who should try to reconstruct it with their pieces, following the description. This game mode develops expression and oral comprehension.
