INSTALLATION OPTIONS
- Use the Bluetooth app to connect directly to your new downlight.
- Connect to your Philips Hue Hub.

HOW TO INSTALL
Open the light’s junction box, usually a plate will pop up. Run your cable into the box and clamp it. Connect it black to black, white to white and ground to ground. Fold the wires into the box and replace the cover. Now mount your lights. Pull the clips in and slip the can’s box into the hole and push the can body up. With your thumb or screwdriver, pull the each clip up and outwards until it clamps the fixture. Add the trim
HOW TO REPLACE OLD RECESSED LIGHTS
- Cut the power. By tripping the circuit breaker at the electric service panel, turn off the power.
- Check the fixture’s power by opening it.
- Take the fixture out.
- Eliminate the Fixture Hole.
- Take away the old box.
- Connect the Fixture Wires, then the Circuit Cable.
- Place the Recessed Fixture in place.
HOW TO CONNECT VIA BLUETOOTH
The addition (+) icon is located in the top right corner of the screen under Settings > Lights. Your lights will be immediately located by the Hue Bluetooth app. The lights will eventually show up on the Home tab.

Are these ok for bathrooms?****
Yes, they stand up to mist/steam well.
What is the light output for the 5/6″ bulb?****
The box for 5/6 says 700 lumen. the website says 835.
Do you require a can for installation or can you install directly into ceiling?****
These lights require a can in the ceiling. The included wire harness adapter allows them to be retrofit to a regular light socket in the top of the can.
Do these work with in-wall LED dimming switches?****
I have these. They don’t work with my in-wall-mounted dimmer switch. I understood from the electrician that they won’t work that way. You can call Philips to find out for sure if there’s any way. Philips has good customer support that has helped me several times. I have their bulbs (with voice and app control) throughout the house.
Is the color 6-inch new version 1100 lumens? I want to make sure this new version is the updated 2022 brighter 1100 lumens version I saw on reddit.****
I believe that what you are referring to is a new slim fit light and that won’t work with an existing high-hat. It’s meant for use in areas where a traditional high-hat wouldn’t fit. Try searching slim downlight for comparison.
Do I need a dimmable switch upstream of this product, or will a normal on/off switch work?****
A normal light switch works.
can I cut the wire and direct hardwire to hot and return at junction box? I don’t have a E26 socket at my can.****
Yes, you can.
How do I pull out this from the can? It seems like the weird springs are stuck in there and it is pulling the can with it.****
Pull one side of the trim down and ue needle nose pliers to gently unhook one spring (don’t let it ricochet into your eye) and then remove the next spring. Usually there are just two springs.
This is the color ambiance bulb; can you combine these with just the white ambiance bulbs in the same room? don’t need all colored in 1 room.****
Yes, I have 6 can lights in a room, I have 4 colored and two white ambiance, it works very well, more than enough color. When I want a color vibe in the room I set the white ambiance to be off and only use the color ones.
will these 4″ downlights fit in a 4″ can?****
They sell the 4” ones and the 5-6” ones. Just make sure you buy the 4” ones.
I don’t have wi-fi in my home. will this work from the Bluetooth on my cell phone?****
Yes, these are equipped with Bluetooth, so you can control them from your phone. You will have limited range with your phone though, probably won’t be able to control them from other rooms.
Can I adjust the brightness of the lights with Lutron or any other wall mount dimmer switches which we get at home depot?****
They’re absolutely pair-able with Lutron switches, they’re listed as compatible with Philips-Hue on their website, I’ve used them in my own home as well.
My current lights connect via a 2-pin led connector. is there any way to make this work in such a setup?****
The light comes with the 2-pin orange connector which is a standard for all LED lights.
if I connect this to Alexa, is there a control senter on the amazon Alexa show? and will I be able to change colors using the amazon echo show 5?****
Yes, you can connect any hue bulb to Alexa and control everything via voice or screen.
Can the firmware be updated via Bluetooth and the Hue app instead of having the Hue hub?****
Not that I have been able to find. You need the hub.
