FAQs

Will this bulb work with a dimmer switch?****

Simplest answer is “don’t use a smart light bulb with a dimmer switch.” It’s much cheaper to purchase any of the Edison style dimmable lights and use an existing dimmer switch.

What is the difference between st119 and a19 (unsure which vintage bulb to get)?****

They both have the same e26 threads. The 19 means diameter in 1/8 of an inch, so 19/8 or 2.375 inches. The A and ST refer to shape. A19 is the size and shape of what was the most common incandescent bulb that we are used to. The ST is taller than the other. My experience with the ST19 is that the threads are a little shorter than most and will not fit in a lamp if the collar of the lamp is a slight bit taller than others.

Does this work with apple homekit?****

Yes, they should work fine with the apple homekit. If not, we would gladly refund you.

Does this work with google assistant?****

Yes, it does, and adding them to google home is easier than the other answer thinks. Once added to the hue app, just open google home app and add it to a room. I tend to use the widget for the hue app myself. just tap a button (icon) to turn them on and off without all the talking.

Is this rated for outdoor use? planning on using it in covered porch.****

Yes, but make sure you place within a fixture that is waterproof. A friend used their bulbs in outdoor lanterns that had wholes in top (wicker style) and they looked beautiful… until it rained. Now, they still work, but are no longer “smart”. To their credit, they are still dimmable but only via a manual switch.

Can I install them outdoor in a driveway? Or its only indoor****

These can be used outdoor and indoor provided they are covered outdoor.

how can I use this bulb in Europe?****

Purchase the bulbs that are sold in Europe. They should be compatible with the power there.

Can you set timers on/off at dusk without having the Hue Hub?****

I automate it using the Hue app. It is a built-in feature, although you’ll need a hub unless you’re using Bluetooth bulbs and you’re in range. I would get the Hub so you can use the features when you aren’t at home or nearby.

Are they dimmable?****

Yes, they are dimmable.

Is this compatible with 250 voltage?****

The bulbs sold in the US are labeled to only 110v, however people have tried them up to 220v and some have worked. There are international versions that should work at higher voltages.

Will this work in a fixture that is E26?****

These bulbs are standard size, not the smaller diameter fitting.

Why can this not be used in a closed fixture?****

I guess you could technically, they really don’t generate heat. However, the question would be why, as you are paying a premium for the style/look.

Is this bulb going to work on a 220V circuit?****

I’m in the United States, so my bulbs are made for 110v 60Hz circuits. I don’t know if there is a 220v 50Hz version. I suggest you look for those specific options on the Phillips website and then search for them.

Can these be used outdoors under covered front porch?****

I imagine they could as long as rain can’t get to them

Do you need the Hue Hub for the bulb to work with Alexa?****

You can use Bluetooth to control the light from the app. While you don’t have to use the hub, it’s seamlessly works with other lights you do have on the hub.
