Use
- These instructions are provided as a guide only. Always make sure that you have a copy of the appropriate vehicle manufacturer’s service instructions or another appropriate manual that provides the correct information needed to correctly execute the work.
- The circlip must not tilt.
- Always ensure that the drive shaft joint is aligned to the drive shaft.
- Damage to the serration of the drive shaft joint and the drive shaft is avoided.
- If necessary, loosen or remove any attached parts.
- Less effort required when opening the drive shaft joint since the protruding circlip is tensioned in the groove.
- Easier attachment and sliding of the drive shaft joint onto the drive shaft by a special half shell shaping.
Always ensure that the drive shaft joint is aligned to the drive shaft.
Installation
-
Place the circlip in the drive shaft groove. Fig. 1.
-
Measure the outer diameter of the serration. Choose the suitable half shell size which sufficiently encloses the serration.
Note: Size information can be found on the underside of the half shells. Fig. 2
-
Insert the corresponding half shells in the circlip pliers 1847-12 above the cylindrical guide until they engage. Fig. 3
-
Place the circlip pliers over the circlip on the drive shaft serration and secure the circlip pliers. Position the drive shaft joint on the half shells. Always ensure that the drive shaft joint is aligned to the drive shaft.
The serration should be easy to fit. Fig. 4
Note: Ensure that the half shells do not protrude over the drive shaft, as this hinders the insertion of the serration.
-
Strike the drive shaft joint with a soft-faced hammer. This pushes the circlip pliers down onto the serration. Fig. 5
Once the drive shaft joint is in the correct position, you can loosen the circlip pliers and remove them from the drive shaft.
Note: Check that the drive shaft joint is placed correctly. The circlip prevents the drive shaft joint from being pulled off the drive shaft. Note: Vehicle manufacturer information must be strictly observed and followed!
Then install the further components according to the corresponding application notes and manufacturer information.
