GENERAL MACHINE SAFETY WARNINGS
WARNING: READ ALL SAFETY WARNINGS, INSTRUCTIONS, ILLUSTRATIONS AND
SPECIFICATIONS PROVIDED WITH THIS MACHINE. Failure to follow all instructions
listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
SAVE ALL WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
The term “machine” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded)
machine or battery-operated (cordless) machine.
PERSONAL SAFETY
Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use
common sense when operating a machine. Do not use a machine while you are
tired or under the
influence of drugs, alcohol medication. A moment
of inattention while operating machines may result in
serious personal injury.
Use personal protective equipment. Always wear
eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust
mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing
protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce
personal injuries.
Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch
WORK AREA SAFETY
Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark
areas invite accidents.
Do not operate machines in explosive atmospheres,
such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Machines create
sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
Keep children and bystanders away while
operating a machine. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
Machine plugs must match the outlet. Never modify
the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded)
machines. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric
shock.
Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded
surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an
increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
Do not expose machines to rain or wet conditions.
Water entering a machine will increase the risk of electric shock.
Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for
carrying, pulling or unplugging the machine. Keep cord away from heat, oil,
sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of
electric shock.
When operating a machine outdoors, use an
extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor
use reduces the risk of electric shock.
If operating a machine in a damp location is
unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an
RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack,
picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying machines with your finger on the
switch or energizing machines that have the switch on invites accidents.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before
turning the machine on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of
the machine may result in personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance
at all times. This enables better control of the machine in unexpected
situations.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or
jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes,
jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
If devices are provided for the connection of dust
extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly
used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of
tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A
careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.
MACHINE USE AND CARE
Do not force the machine. Use the correct machine
for your application. The correct machine will do the job better and safer at
the rate for which it was designed.
Do not use the machine if the switch does not turn
it on and off. Any machine that cannot be controlled with the switch is
dangerous and must be repaired.

SAFETY WARNINGS FOR EARTH AUGER
Replace augers if cracked, bent, or damaged in any
way. Operating the machine with a damaged auger
can result in serious injury.
Never use the auger with the handles above waist
level. This restricts control of the auger and may
increase the risk of injury.
Hold the machine with both hands at the intended
handles. Loss of control can cause personal injury.
Hold the machine by insulated gripping surfaces,
when performing an operation where the digging
accessory may contact hidden wiring. Digging
accessory contacting a “live” wire may make exposed
metal parts of the machine”live” and could give the
operator an electric shock.
To reduce the risk of electrocution, never use the
auger near any buried electrical power cables.
Contact with or use near buried electrical power cables
may cause serious injury or electric shock resulting
in death.
Always start the machine at low speed and with
the auger bit tip in contact with the ground. At
higher speeds, the bit is likely to bend if allowed to
rotate freely without contacting the ground, resulting in
personal injury.
Apply pressure only in direct line with the bit
and do not apply excessive pressure. Bits can
bend causing breakage or loss of control, resulting in
personal injury.
Always be sure you have a firm footing. Be sure
no one is below when using the machine in high
locations.

WORKING WITH THE EARTH AUGER
WARNING:
Contact local utility for underground service
marking before using machine to avoid contact with underground utilities
Do not use the auger for anything other than its
intended purpose.
Use the earth auger only for drilling holes in soil. Avoid digging in material
that you suspect contains
hidden nails or other things that may cause the auger bit to bind or break.
Stay alert to the torque reaction force of the machine.
Always keep the operating position that you can withstand the torque reaction
force.
Be extremely cautious when working on slopes or
uneven surface.
NOTICE: Before operating, check that there is no foreign matter (sand, dirt,
etc.) stuck in the openings or moving parts.
a. Make sure feet are firmly planted above the work surface and stand with the
handles close to waist. Firmly hold the right handle with your right hand and
the left handle with your left hand (Fig. G1)
WARNING: Never hold the right handle with your left hand and the left handle
with your right hand. Improper hand positions may result in serious injury
(Fig. G2).
WARNING: Avoid improper positioning (Fig. G3). Do not stand too far from the
machine. Proper reaction and control may not be achieved in the event of
kickback.
b. Keep the auger bit away from your body and the auger bit pointing downward
at a 90°angle to the surface.
c. Set the direction of rotation and rotation speed.
d. Lift the machine above the surface. Press and hold the lock-off button and
squeeze the switch trigger.
WARNING: Do not touch the auger bit when the product is switched on.
e. Allow the auger to gain full speed.
f. Lower the auger bit into the surface maintaining the 90°angle (Fig. G4).
Allow the auger bit to bite into the material, letting the machine do the
work.
g. As the auger bit begins to fill with debris, it is important to constantly
clear it to produce a clean cut and reduce the amount of effort required
while the auger is operating at full speed, slowly lift it from the hole and
allow the debris to clear from the auger bit.
h. After using this machine, release the trigger switch and allow the auger to
come to a complete stop.
i. When leaving the machine, such as during a break, do not leave the machine
inserted in the soil or lean it against a wall.
TIPS FOR USING THE EARTH AUGER
Pressing excessively on the machine will not speed
up the digging. Excessive pressure will only serve to damage the tip of the
auger bit, decrease the machine performance, and shorten the service life of
the machine.
When drilling a deep hole or drilling in clay soil, do not
try to dig at once. Dig the hole by lifting the machine up and down so that
the loose soil in the hole can be discharged.
If the rotation speed of the machine slows down due to
high load operation, lift the machine up little, and move the machine up and
down to drill in small steps.
A stuck auger bit can be removed simply by setting the
auger into reverse rotation in order to back out. When reversing, brace the
machine by your body to prevent a clockwise reaction.
