  • Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the machine on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the machine may result in personal injury.
  • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the machine in unexpected situations.
  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
  • If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
  • Do not let familiarity gained from the frequent use of machines allow you to become complacent and ignore machine safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

MACHINE USE AND CARE

  • Do not force the machine. Use the correct machine for your application. The correct machine will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
  • Do not use the machine if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any machine that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
  • Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the machine before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing machines. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the machine accidentally.
  • Store idle machines out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the machine or these instructions to operate the machine. Machines are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
  • Maintained machines and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the machine’s operation. If damaged, have the machine repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained machines.
  • Keep cutting machines sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting machines with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
  • Use the machine, accessories and machine bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the machine for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
  • Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the machine in unexpected situations.

BATTERY MACHINE USE AND CARE

  • Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
  • Use machines only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
  • When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
  • Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
  • Do not use a battery pack or machine that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.
  • Do not expose a battery pack or machine to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 265 °F (130 °C) may cause an explosion.
  • Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or machine outside the temperature range specified in the instructions.
  • Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

SERVICE

  • Have your machine serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the machine is maintained.
  • Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR EARTH/ICE AUGER

  • Replace augers if cracked, bent, or damaged in any way. Operating the machine with a damaged auger can result in serious injury.
  • Never use the auger with the handles above waist level. This restricts control of the auger and may increase the risk of injury.
  • Hold the machine with both hands at the intended handles. Loss of control can cause personal injury.
  • Hold the machine by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the digging accessory may contact hidden wiring. Digging accessory contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the machine “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.
  • To reduce the risk of electrocution, never use the auger near any buried electrical power cables. Contact with or use near buried electrical power cables may cause serious injury or electric shock resulting in death.
  • Always start the machine at low speed and with the auger bit tip in contact with the ground. At higher speeds, the bit is likely to bend if allowed to rotate freely without contacting the ground, resulting in personal injury.
  • Apply pressure only in direct line with the bit and do not apply excessive pressure. Bits can bend causing breakage or loss of control, resulting in personal injury.
  • Always be sure you have a firm footing. Be sure no one is below when using the machine in high locations.
  • Hold the machine firmly.
  • Keep hands away from rotating parts.
  • Do not leave the machine running. Operate the machine only when handheld.
  • Do not touch the auger bit immediately after the operation. It may be extremely hot and could burn your skin.
  • If something is wrong with the machine, such as abnormal sounds, stop operating immediately and contact your local service center for repair.
  • To reduce the risk of explosion, never use the auger near any buried gas lines, including water lines and pipes. Contact with or use near buried water or gas lines may result in bursting of water lines and explosion from gas lines which may cause serious injury or death.
  • Never operate at higher speed than the maximum speed rating of the auger bit. At higher speeds, the bit is likely to bend if allowed to rotate freely without contacting the workpiece, resulting in personal injury.
  • Battery-operated machines do not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet; therefore, they are always in operating condition. Be aware of possible hazards even when the machine is not operating. Take care when performing maintenance or service.
  • Do not wash with a hose; avoid getting water in motor and electrical connections.
  • The ice blades are very sharp. Use extreme caution when drilling a hole or replacing the blades. Put the blade guard on after each use.

  • f. Lower the auger bit into the surface maintaining the 90°angle (Fig. 8d). Allow the auger bit to bite into the material, letting the machine do the work.
  • g. As the auger bit begins to fill with debris, it is important to constantly clear it to produce a clean cut and reduce the amount of effort required – while the auger is operating at full speed, slowly lift it from the hole and allow the debris to clear from the auger bit.
  • h. After using this machine, release the trigger switch and allow the auger to come to a complete stop.
  • i. When leaving the machine, such as during a break, do not leave the machine inserted in the soil/ice or lean it against a wall. Install the blade guard onto the ice auger bit and store the machine in a stable position.

TIPS FOR USING THE EARTH/ICE AUGER

  • Pressing excessively on the machine will not speed up the digging. Excessive pressure will only serve to damage the tip of the auger bit, decrease the machine performance, and shorten the service life of the machine.
  • When drilling a deep hole or drilling in clay soil, do not try to dig at once. Dig the hole by lifting the machine up and down so that the loose soil in the hole can be discharged.
  • If the rotation speed of the machine slows down due to high load operation, lift the machine up little, and move the machine up and down to drill in small steps.
  • A stuck auger bit can be removed simply by setting the auger into reverse rotation in order to back out. When reversing, brace the machine by your body to prevent a clockwise reaction.
  • Before working with an ice auger bit on frozen ponds, lakes, or steams, check with local authorities and take all necessary precautions to ensure safe ice thickness.
  • When taking the ice auger bit out of the hole, lift the machine vertically so that the bit comes out straight without canting. To minimize splashing when drilling ice holes, release the trigger switch immediately when the ice auger bit breaks  through the ice. Raise the machine slowly. Cover and clearly mark boreholes toprevent anyone from stepping in a hole.

MAINTENANCE

  • WARNING : When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use  of any other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage. To ensure safety and reliability, all repairs should be performed by a qualified service technician.
  • WARNING : Battery-powered machines do not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet; therefore, they are always in operating condition.
  • To prevent serious personal injury, take extra precautions and care when performing maintenance, service or for changing the cutting attachment or other attachments.
