READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS!
WARNING
- Make all electrical and ground connections in accordance with local codes or the National Electrical Code. If you are not familiar with these codes and requirements, consult a qualified electrician. This Professional should be familiar with the construction and operation of this product and hazards involved. Failure to do so may result in serious personal injury.
- To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, personal injury, or property damage, please read and follow all safety instructions. If you do not understand these instructions or if any additional information is required, contact your local Topaz representative. Retain these instructions for maintenance reference.
- Do not exceed the allowed supply voltage marked on the luminaire label information.
- Disconnect power at the circuit breaker panel before any installation.
CAUTION
- Do not expose wire to any sharp objects such as sheet metal to prevent wiring damage or abrasion.
- While the light is on, please avoid direct eye exposure.
- Combustible material should be kept away from fixture/LENS.
- Do not make or alter any open holes in any enclosure or any electrical component during installation.
- Do not use when the enclosure is damaged or broken in any way.
- Do not alter, relocate or remove wiring, lamp holder power supply or any other electrical component.
- Pursuant to NEC 410.69, “Effective January 1, 2022, where control conductors are spliced, terminated, or connected in the same luminaire or enclosure as the branch-circuit conductors, the field-connected control conductor shall not be of a color reserved for the grounded branch circuit conductor or the equipment grounding conductor.” And NEC 200.6(A)(2), “An insulated grounded conductor of 6 AWG or smaller shall be identified by one of the following means: (2) The insulated conductor shall have a continuous gray outer finish.” For this reason, Topaz® will be transitioning from using Purple and Gray dimming wires, to Purple and Pink dimming wires.

Wattage and CCT Selection:
Remote Driver
- Select the Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) and wattage to best suit the environment. Use the switches either on the back of the fixture (Internal Driver) or on the wiring compartment (Remote Driver). See examples to the left.
Internal Driver
Internal Driver Installation:
-
Turn off electric power at the circuit breaker.
-
For New installations, use the Dimensions chart to mark and cut the mounting hole to the correct size for the fixture being installed. For retrofit application, remove the old fixture and/or fixture housing, then verify the hole is the correct size for the fixture being installed. If not, trim to the correct size.
-
Connect the safety cable to a secure structure such as a junction box (Sold Separately). See Figure 1.
-
Connect the fixture wires to a junction box (Sold Separately) and make the wiring connections according to the Wiring Diagram. See Figure 2.
-
Push up and hold the spring clips against the fixture. Gently guide into the ceiling until the clips are in the hole. Tuck excess wire into the ceiling and be sure not to pinch or crimp the wire. See Figure 3.
-
Let go of the clips and push the fixture up until it is flush with the ceiling. See Figure 4.
Remote Driver Installation:
-
Turn off electric power at the circuit breaker.
-
For new installations, use the Dimensions chart to mark and cut the mounting hole to the correct size for the fixture being installed. For retrofit application, remove the old fixture and/or fixture housing, then verify the hole is the correct size for the fixture being installed. If not, trim the hole to the correct size.
-
Connect the supply wires to the wiring compartment and make wiring connections according to the wiring diagram. Leave the keyed connector end out of the hole and visible. See Figure 5.
-
Connect the keyed connector ends of both the wiring compartment and the fixture and tighten the captive nut to secure the connection. See Figure 6.
-
Push up and hold the spring clips against the fixture. Gently guide into the ceiling until the clips are in the hole. Tuck excess wire into the ceiling and be sure not to pinch or crimp the wire. See Figure 7.
-
Let go of the clips and push the fixture up until it is flush with the ceiling. See **Figure 8.
**
Accessory Installation:
New Construction Drywall Pan Frame Installation:
-
Select the hole size by matching the fixture to the printed ring sizes on the frame kit. Select the ring that is slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the fixture. Using a pair of cutters, cut out the ring that corresponds to the fixture size being installed (See Drywall Pan Frame Dimensions for reference to fixture size). See Figure 12.
-
Mount the J-Box adapter (CDL-J-BOX Sold Separately) (if applicable).
See J-Box Installation. -
Install the 2 hangar bars (CDL-HB Sold Separately) onto the pan (if applicable).
J-Box Installation:
-
The Junction Box accessory comes in three parts (one J-Box cage and two J-Box side covers). Mount the J-Box cage to the Drywall Pan Frame (CDL-DWP sold separately) by lining up the tabs on the bottom of the J-
box cage with the precut holes in the pan. Be sure to mount the J-Box accessory to the top side of the pan – the etched cutout dimensions can be read from the top of the pan. See Figure 9. -
Bend the tabs over to secure the J-Box to the drywall pan frame. See Figure 10.
-
Install one J-Box side cover by inserting the bottom tabs into the precut holes. Then swing the J-box side cover closed using the clips on the top of J-box cage. Be sure the indention faces out so the clipে grip securely to the cover. See Figure 11.
Note: Leave 1 side of the J-Box open to complete the wiring. Once the wiring is complete, install the second cover.
Drywall Pan Ceiling Installation (Without Hangers):
-
Apply the drywall pan to the ceiling joist in the desired fixture location.
Be sure to allow enough space for the J-Box mounted on the pan(If applicable). Screw the frame to the joists using appropriate hardware (Not Included) to secure it in place. See Figure 13. -
Install drywall over the drywall pan. Follow the directions for Internal Driver Installation or Remote Driver Installation.
Hanger Bar Installation:
-
Install the (4) pan head screws into the drywall pan from the bottom (Screw heads should be on the bottom of the pan). Do not fully tighten. Leave a 1/8” space. See Figure 14.
-
Place the keyhole of the slide over 2 pan head screws and slide in. Fully tighten the screws and ensure the hanger bars are secured in place for proper installation.
-
Follow the directions for Internal Driver Installation or Remote Driver Installation.
Drywall Pan Ceiling Installation with Hanger Bars:
-
Secure the assembly between the ceiling studs in the area desired for installation. See Figure 15.
-
Install drywall over the drywall pan. Follow the directions for Internal Driver Installation or Remote Driver Installation.
T-Grid Ceiling Installation with Hanger Bars:
-
Center the pan on the ceiling tile and secure the assembly to the T-Grid placing the hanger bar ends onto the T-Grid and securing them with screws (NOT INCLUDED). See Figure 16.
-
Follow the directions for Internal Driver Installation or Remote Driver Installation.
Color Trim Installation:
-
To ensure a proper fit, make sure the color trim finish is the same size as the downlight fixture.
-
Remove fixture from ceiling (if applicable)
-
Align color trim over the fixture face and push together. See Figure 17.
-
Once together, locate the 4 bend tabs around the trim.
Bend them all inward, by hand, until the trim is tight to the fixture. See Figure 18. -
The fixture is now ready to be installed/reinstalled back into the ceiling.
Emergency Battery Backup Maintenance:
- Allow the battery to discharge/recharge every 3 months (to extend the battery’s functional life) by turning off power at the circuit breaker for 2 hours.
- Monthly, press the push to test button to test the emergency function.
- Battery capacity is >60% from the factory and has a 12-month shelf life.
NOTE: Users are prohibited from replacing the batteries.
**NOTE: THESE INSTRUCTIONS DO NOT ADDRESS ALL PERMUTATIONS THAT MAY EXIST IN INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE, AND OPERATING ENVIRONMENT.
