Kickback safety precautions for chain saw users

DANGER!

  1. Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Tip contact in some cases may cause a lightning fast reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the operator. Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator. Either of these reactions may cause you to Iose control of the saw, which could result in serious personal injury.
  2. Do not rely exclusively on the safety devices built into your saw. As a chain saw user you should take several steps to keep cutting jobs free from accident or injury

With a basic understanding of kickback, you can reduce or eliminate the element of surprise. Sudden surprise contributes to accidents

  1.  Keep a good grip on the saw with both hands when the engine is running. Use a firm grip with thumbs and fingers encircling the handles. A firm grip will help you reduce kickback and maintain control of the saw.
  2. Make certain that the area in which you are cutting is free from obstructions. Do not let the nose of the guide bar contact a log, branch, or any other obstruction which could be hit while you are operating the saw.
  3. Cut at high engine speeds.
  4. Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain.
  5. Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer or the equivalent.
  6. Always make sure the cutting attachment is properly installed and firmly tightened before operation.
  7. Never use a cracked or warped guide bar: replace it with a new one and make sure it fits properly.
  8. If a saw blade should bind fast in a cut, shut off the engine immediately. Push the branch or tree to ease the bind and free the blade.
  9. Do not operate the pole chain saw with the muffler removed.
  10.  When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert for spring back so that you will not be struck by the moving limb.
  11.  Always stop the engine immediately and check for damage if you strike a foreign object or if the machine becomes tangled. Do not use broken or damaged equipment.

  7. Move the choke lever down to open the choke. Restart the engine.

  8. Allow the engine to warm up for a several minutes before starting operation.

WARNING! The product is equipped with a centrifugal clutch mechanism so that the cutting attachment starts to rotate as soon as the engine is started by moving the throttle to the start position. When starting the engine, place the product on the ground in a flat, clear area and hold it firmly to ensure that neither the cutting part nor the throttle will come into contact with any obstacle when the engine starts.
CAUTION! Do not pull the starter rope too far. Watch the cutting/mowing head while pulling the starter rope.

NOTE

  1. When restarting the engine immediately after stopping it, leave the choke open.
  2. Over choking can make the engine hard to start due to excess fuel. When the engine failed to start after several attempts, open the choke and repeat pulling the rope, or remove the spark plug and dry it.

Stopping the engine

  1. Release the throttle lever and run the engine for half a minute.
  2. Shift the stop switch to the STOP position.

WARNING!

  • Except in an emergency, avoid stopping the engine while pulling the throttle lever.
  • If the engine does not stop with the stop switch, move the choke to the closed position.

POLE SAW OPERATION

DANGER!

  • Always wear leather or other strong material gloves when using the pole saw.
  • Falling branches can hit your face or eyes, causing injuries, scratches and cuts, so always wear a helmet and face guard when using your pole saw.

Checking oil supply
After starting the engine, run the chain at medium speed and see if chain oil has scattered off, as shown in the figure.

NOTE!
The oil reservoir has sufficient capacity to provide approximately 40 minutes of cutting time (when set at the minimum flow rate) or approximately the time you will get from one tank of fuel. Be sure to refill the oil tank each time you refuel the saw.

Adjusting oil flow rate

CAUTION! Never fill the oil reservoir or adjust the oil flow with the engine running.
An increase in bar oil flow rate will speed oil consumption, requiring more frequent checks on the oil reservoir. To ensure sufficient lubrication, it may be necessary to check the oil level more frequently than when refilling the fuel tank.
The guide bar and chain are lubricated automatically by a pump that operates whenever the chain rotates. The pump is set at the factory to deliver a minimum flow rate, but this can be adjusted in the field to suit the application. A temporary increase in oil flow is often desirable when cutting things like hardwood or wood with a lot of resin.

Adjust the pump as follows:

  1. Stop the engine and make sure the stop switch is in the OFF position.
  2. Place the unit on its side with the oil reservoir up.
  3. With a screwdriver, push in on the oil flow rate adjusting screw and turn in the desired direction.

POLE HEDGE TRIMMER OPERATION
DANGER! This product is equipped with extremely sharp blades which, if used incorrectly, can be extremely dangerous. Improper handling can cause accidents, resulting in serious injury or death. For this reason, you should always take care to follow the instructions below when using your trimmer.

  • Never hold the trimmer with the blades are pointed towards someone else.
  • Never allow the blades to come into proximity with your body while the engine of the trimmer is in operation.
  • Always be sure to turn off the engine before changing the angle of the blades, removing branches which have become stuck in the blades, or at any other time when coming into close proximity with the blades.
  • Always wear work gloves made of leather or some other sturdy material when using the trimmer.
  • Always place the blade cover provided with the trimmer over the blades when not in use.
  • Falling branches may fall onto the face or into the eyes, resulting in injuries, scratches, and cuts, and for this reason you should always be sure to wear a helmet and face protector when using your trimmer.

CAUTION! The thickness of branches, which may be cut using this trimmer, is limited to up to approximately 5 mm. Never try to cut branches thicker than this, as doing so may result in damage to the trimmer.

Adjusting the angle of the cutting blades

  1. Stop the engine.
  2.  Lift the lock lever and press down the adjusting lever.
  3. Adjust the angle of the blades to the desired angle and remove your hand.

  • Do not mow during generally accepted rest periods.
  • All hard objects – stones, metal parts, etc. – must be removed. They could be thrown and cause personal injury or material damage.
  • When working in tall shrubs or bushes, the minimum working height should be 15 cm to avoid endangering small animals.

Mowing grass
When working on lawns, hold the brushcutter at an angle of about 30° and make semicircular turns to the left and right.
The best results are achieved with grass up to 15 cm high. If the grass is higher, it is recommended to repeat the mowing several times.

WARNING! Never place the mowing head on the ground when the machine is running.

If the mowing performance decreases:

  1. Hold the running machine over the grass and tap the ground several times with the mowing head to lengthen the nylon cutting line.
  2. The blade in the protective cover will cut the line to the required length.

CAUTION! Nylon line fragments may be ejected and cause injury.

  • If the machine is vibrating, clean it or, if necessary, remove the grass that is stuck to the mowing head and guard.
  • Hold the machine firmly and securely with both hands.
  • Only cut grass and weeds, low bushes can be cut with a thick blade.
  • Take care not to endanger anyone while mowing. Work quietly and considerately. Ensure the safety of others.
  • Only work when there is sufficient visibility and light.
  • Be aware of the cutting head.
  • Never mow/cut above shoulder height.
  • Never replace the nylon cord with steel wire – risk of injury and destruction.
  • Never work standing on a ladder.
  • Work on a solid and stable surface.
  • Use the machine only after carefully reading the instruction manual. Follow all the safety instructions in the manual.

Engine

Air cleaner
A clogged air cleaner will reduce engine performance. Check the filter element and clean if necessary in warm soapy water. Dry completely before reinstalling. If the element is broken or shrunk, replace with a new one.

Spark plug
Failure to start and misfiring are often caused by a dirty spark plug. Clean the spark plug and check that the gap is in the correct range.
Replace spark plug, when necessary. Recommended spark plugs: NHSP, LD L8RTF, NGK BPMR7A.

To install the spark plug, first turn it finger-tight, then tighten it a quarter turn using a socket wrench.
Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1 ~ 1.2 kg.m)

  • CAUTION! Note that the use of spark plugs other than those specified may cause the engine to malfunction or overheat and cause damage.

Muffler
WARNING! Periodically inspect the muffler for loose fasteners, damage or corrosion. If any sign of exhaust leakage is found, stop using the machine and have it repaired immediately. Failure to do so may cause the engine to catch fire.

Remove the muffler, insert a screwdriver into the exhaust port and wipe away any carbon deposits. At the same time, wipe off any carbon build-up on the muffler exhaust port and cylinder exhaust port.

Hedge trimmer

  1. Loosen the lock nut (A) as shown in the diagram.
  2. Tighten the screw (B) completely, then turn it back a third to one half turn.
  3. Tighten the locknut while holding the screw to keep it in position.
  4.  Check that the flat washer (C) is loose enough that it can be turned by pressing on it.

Blade
When refilling the tank or resting, it is often a good idea to use the time to oil the cutting blades.
If a gap exists between the upper and lower blades, follow the procedure below to adjust them so that they fit closer together.

NOTE:

  • Tightening the screw too much can prevent the blades from moving. Conversely, if the screw is not tight enough, the trimmer blades may not work properly and leaves and twigs may get caught in the trimmer blades.
  • If the blades are so worn that it is no longer possible to close the gap between them, you should contact an authorised service center to have the blades sharpened or replaced.

Transmission
The reduction gears are lubricated by multi-purpose grease in the gearbox.
Add new grease every 25 hours of use or more often depending on the operating conditions. When adding grease, use a grease gun to inject grease into the three grease slots on the gearbox.

Chain saw

  • Oiling port
Remove the guide bar and check that the oil port is not blocked.

  • Guide bar
Remove sawdust from the bar groove and oil hole.
The bar should always be square. Check the bar for wear. Place a ruler against the bar and the outside of a cutter. If there is a gap between them, the bar is normal. If not, the bar is worn. Such a bar must be corrected or replaced.

  • Sprocket
Check for extensive wear and replace if the teeth are worn by more than 0.3 mm.

  • Saw chain
CAUTION! It is very important for smooth and safe operation that the blades are kept sharp at all times.

Your cutters need to be sharpened when:

  •  The sawdust becomes powdery.
  • You need extra force to cut.
  • The cut is not straight.
  • Vibration increases.
  • Fuel consumption increases.

Cutter setting standards
WARNING! Be sure to wear safety gloves.

Before filing

  • Make sure the saw chain is held securely.
  • Make sure the engine is stopped.
  • Use a round file of proper size for your chain.
  • Chain type : 3/8LP 050 45DL
  • File size : 5/32 in (4.0 mm)

Place the file on the cutter and press straight down. Keep the file positioned as shown.

After setting each cutter, check the depth gauge and file to the correct level as shown.

NOTE: It is important to round the front edge to reduce the risk of kickback or breakage. Make sure that each cutter has the same length and edge angles as shown.

Transmission
The reduction gears are lubricated by multi-purpose, lithium-based grease in the gearbox.
Supply new grease every 25 hours of use or more often depending on operating conditions.
When adding lubricant, use a grease gun to insert lubricant into the three grease fittings located on the gearbox.

STORAGE
Old fuel is one of the main causes of engine starting failure. Before storing the machine, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until all the fuel in the fuel line and carburettor has been used up.
Clean and service the machine before storing.
Store the unit indoors, taking the necessary measures to prevent rust.

DISPOSAL
When disposing of the machine, fuel or oil for the machine, make sure that you comply with national legislation and local regulations.
