INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Keep instructions for future reference.
This pamphlet explains correct use and some common misuses for the equipment
depicted in the illustrations. Other possible misuses exist. If you lack
experience, use this equipment under proper supervision or obtain proper
training before use. Black Diamond Probes are used for companion rescue to
help locate buried people in snow or avalanche debris. When in avalanche
terrain, always carry an avalanche rescue shovel and probe and wear an
avalanche transceiver. Practice using your transceiver, shovel, and probe
prior to skiing in avalanche terrain.

LIFESPAN, INSPECTION AND RETIREMENT
Equipment does not last forever. Inspect your gear before and after each use and retire it when it fails inspection or when it reaches its maximum lifespan – 10 years after the date of manufacture for plastic and textile products/components, even if unused and properly stored. The maximum lifespan of metal parts is not limited by age. Refer to the Markings section of these instructions in order to determine the date of manufacture of this equipment.
- Damage and extreme conditions may shorten your equipment’s useful life and could conceivably require retiring the gear during its first use. Inspect your gear immediately whenever you suspect damage during use.
- See the accompanying inspection illustrations. Retire immediately if any of the illustrated conditions are found.
- If you have any doubts about the dependability of your gear, retire it.
- Destroy retired gear to prevent future use. Dispose or recycle per local regulations.
