RUGGED RADIOS MAVERICK-696-M1-HK Glove Box Mount

Setting up the Glovebox and Mount

Parts List

  • Hot Knife, Utility Knife or Dremel
  • Marker
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Screwdriver
  • QTY (1) MT-MAVERICK-MM-RM Mounting kit
  • QTY (1) MAVERICK-696-M1-HK (or your choice of Rugged Radios Mobile Radio and Intercom)

Step 1

Remove the glovebox from the vehicle. Place Mount on the glovebox see Fig. 1 and trace the center large opening onto the box with a pen

Step 2

Carefully, without cutting yourself, use a hot knife, utility knife or dremel to cut out the traced hole from the glovebox. Drill a ¼” to ½” hole on the wall opposite of the one just cut that will be used to run cabling into the box.

Note: Be careful not to cut too high around the thin upper bar with the tabs on the mount.

Fig. 2 shows the mount placed on the glove box.

Fig. 3 shows the mount removed highlighting the traced cutline shape and locations.

Once cut out, reposition the mount back on the glovebox to line up with the cut hole to first check fit and make adjustments as needed. With the mount still held on it is optional to make pilot holes to line up with the four outer corners of the mount. See Fig. 4

Otherwise proceed to screw in the self tapping screws provided into the outer mount corners and the glovebox to hold them together. See Fig. 5

Step 4

The mount and glove box is now ready for the insert. The insert includes the mount with the intercom and radio attached. If this has not already been assembled, do so now. You can find the instructions for the insert under MT- DMU-RUGGED.

Adding the Radio and Intercom

Step 5

Once assembled, take the radio and intercom insert, and slide it in through the large center mount hole, with the wires to pass through the box first and the radio and intercom facing outwards. See Fig. 8 & 9

Step 6

Next, when in place, take the provided 4mm screws and insert them into the frame of the radio and intercom insert in order to attach the corners of the insert to the glove box mount. Tighten all by hand first before using a ratchet to make snug. Do not over tighten. See Fig. 10

Step 7

This step is optional. After installing the insert, place the false bottom into the glove box and let it settle on top of the radio and intercom as far as it naturally can. Mark and cut screw holes where the false bottom rests and install with screws to secure it. See Fig 11 & 12.

Vehicle Installation

Step 8

With everything on the glovebox installed and secured, the glovebox can now be replaced back into the vehicle as it was before removal.

Step 9

Finish routing cabling from the vehicle into the glovebox and to the respected ports. Make sure cables are not coiled, pinched, or tangled. Clean up any of the cable with cable ties as desired (R-WRAP-6).

Performance Check

Now it’s time to test. It’s always best to check performance in an outdoor open area. Turn on the radio and intercom system. Turn on each device one at a time. Check operation separately to assure each device is functioning properly.
Once all devices are on and functioning properly, re-check with the engine running. If any electronic noise is introduced in the system while the engine is running make sure all devices are not connected to 12V power. If you have any other questions, our team is ready to help give us a call.
