Baby monitor setup and use

• Determine a location for the baby unit that will allow you to hear your baby in his/her cot.
• Place the baby unit on a flat surface, such as a dresser, bureau, or shelf.
• NEVER place the baby unit or cords within the cot.

Getting started

Location
Important
Do not place your PIP15 or PIP15 MULTI in the bathroom or other humid areas.
Place your units within reach of the AC power outlet and wall socket. The socket-outlet should be installed near the equipment and should be easily accessible.
Installing batteries into the baby unit

Important
Warning! Use only the approved rechargeable Ni-MH battery cells (2 x AAA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries) supplied with your PIP15 or PIP15 MULTI.

1. Lift up the battery cover to remove it from the baby unit.
2. Insert the rechargeable Ni-MH battery cells supplied. Note the ’+’ and ’-’ markings beside the battery compartment and insert in the correct direction.
3. Place the battery cover back into place.
4. To install batteries into another baby unit, repeat the above steps.

Connecting and charging the baby unit

1. Plug the supplied USB type-C cable into the USB-C power socket.
2. Plug the USB-C power socket cable into the power jack on the side of the parent unit and plug the other end into the wall socket.
3. Switch on the AC power (if your AC power outlet has a switch). The battery charging LED indicator will light up in red and turn dim when the batteries are fully charged.
4. To connect another baby unit, repeat the above steps.

Installing batteries into the parent unit

Important
Warning! Use only the approved rechargeable Ni-MH battery cells (2 x AAA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries) supplied with your PIP15 or PIP15 MULTI.

1. Lift up the battery cover to remove it from the parent unit.
2. Insert the rechargeable Ni-MH battery cells supplied. Note the ’+’ and ’-’ markings inside the battery compartment and insert in the correct direction.
3. Place the battery cover back into place.

Connecting and charging the parent unit

1. Plug the supplied USB type-C cable into the USB-C power socket.
2. Plug the USB-C power socket cable into the power jack on the side of the parent unit and plug the other end into the wall socket.
3. Switch on the AC power (if your AC power outlet has a switch). When the parent unit is fully charged, will appear steadily on the screen display.

Battery low warning

• On the baby units, if the battery charging LED indicator flashes red when turning on the power button, it means the battery level is low and needs recharging.
• On the parent unit, if flashes on the screen display when turning on the  power button, it means the battery level is low and needs recharging.

Battery performance

When charging the batteries for the first time, charge for at least 16 hours continuously. After charging for the first time, subsequent charging time is about 8 to 10 hours a day. In normal conditions, fully charged batteries should give around 10 hours usage time for the baby unit and 9 hours usage time for the parent unit. For detailed information on battery performance, see Technical Specifications on page 20.
Note that new batteries do not reach their full capacity until they have been put to normal use for several days.
The charge capacity of the rechargeable batteries will reduce with time as it wears out, giving the parent and baby units less usage / standby time. Eventually they will need to be replaced.

Batteries in the parent and baby units may become warm during charging. This is normal.

Before use

Intended use
Be aware that this Audio Baby Monitor is only intended as an aid. It is not a substitute for responsible and proper adult supervision.

Setup location

• Do not place any baby units or cords in the cribs or within reach of the babies. The units and cords should be more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from the babies.
• Make sure there is a minimum distance of 2 meters (6 feet) between the parent and baby units to avoid audio feedback. If there is noise interference, move the baby and parent units further apart. There is, however, no restriction on the distance between two baby units.
• Make sure the parent and baby units are not placed near other electrical equipment. Move the parent and baby units 2 meters (6 feet) away from other electrical equipment.
• If any of the baby units has lost its link with the parent unit, the temperature icon on the screen will flash and no temperature value will be displayed. You will hear a beep tone every 10 seconds. If all baby units have lost their links with the parent unit, the LED indicator on the parent unit will flash. In these cases, move the baby units closer to the parent unit.

Operating range

The audio baby monitor has a range of up to 450 meters (1500 feet) outdoors when there is a clear line of sight between the baby and parent units. Any obstruction between the units will reduce the range significantly.

Check the microphone and speaker

• Speak into the microphone of each baby unit. You should be able to hear the sound from the parent unit.
• Adjust the speaker volume of the parent unit to the desired volume when necessary. Refer to section 4.4 for volume level settings.

Using the audio baby monitor

Turn the baby unit on / off

Press and hold on the baby unit to turn it on. The power LED indicator lights up in red first and becomes green.
• Press and hold on the baby unit again to turn it off. The power LED indicator will turn off.

Turn the parent unit on / off
• Press and hold on the parent unit to turn it on. The power / linking LED indicator lights up in green.
• Press and hold on the parent unit again to turn it off. You will hear a beep sound. The power / linking LED indicator will turn off.

Notes

• If you place the parent and baby units too close together, you may hear a high pitched noise. Move the units further apart or decrease the volume of the parent unit.
• If any of the baby units is disconnected, the temperature icon on the screen will flash and no temperature value is displayed. You will hear a beep tone every 10 seconds. If all baby units are disconnected, the LED indicator on the parent unit will flash.
• Make sure all units are powered on, and the distance between the parent and baby units is less than 450 meters (1500 feet).

Listening and cycling modes
In standby mode, press continuously to select to listen to an individual baby unit or all baby units. When a baby unit is selected, the screen will display a bordered box around the chosen baby unit. Then you will be able to listen to this baby unit. When two or more baby units are connected, you can select to listen to all baby units and the screen will display a bordered box around all baby units. Alternatively, you can select to cycle through all connected units.
You will be able to listen to each baby unit in sequence. The listened baby unit is surrounded by a bordered box, with each segment lasting 15 seconds.

Adjust the speaker volume on the parent unit
Press to increase or decrease the volume. It has 5 volume levels and mute.

Mute the speaker
Press continuously or press and hold to mute the speaker of the parent unit. When it is muted, will be displayed.

Sound alert
When the parent unit detects a sound, the LCD backlight on the parent unit screen will turn on. The baby unit icon will flash on the screen when sound comes from the baby unit. For details about this feature, please refer to section 4.18 on Voice activated alert (VOX).

Talk back
Press continuously on the parent unit to select an individual baby unit or all baby units. Then the screen will display with the baby unit number(s) selected. Press and hold , and speak to your baby/babies through the microphone of the parent unit. Release the button when you finish speaking. In standby mode, press and hold to speak directly to all babies.

Name the baby units

1. Press MENU then scroll to select NAME, then press .
2. Scroll to select a baby unit, then press .
3. Scroll left or right to select a character on the screen, then press to confirm. The character will be added.
4. To remove a character, scroll left or right to select X and press .
5. Repeat the same process until you finish editing. The maximum number of characters is limited to 5.
6. Scroll left or right to select ✓ to save the name.
7. To name another baby unit, repeat from step 1.

Register/Deregister a baby unit
Your baby units are already pre-registered to your parent unit. There is no need to register them again unless they lose the link with the parent unit. When a baby unit loses the link, the temperature icon on the screen will flash and no temperature value will be displayed.

To re-register an existing baby unit or to register a new baby unit, follow the steps below.

1. Make sure the baby unit is switched off.
2. Press and hold on the baby unit until you hear a beep tone and the LED on the baby unit flashes. The baby unit enters pairing mode.
3. On the parent unit, press MENU then scroll to REGISTER.
4. Press then scroll to PAIR.
5. Press to confirm. When pairing is successful, SUCCEED will appear on the screen and you will hear a beep tone.

Notes: You can register up to 4 baby units and the parent unit will automatically assign a number for the newly registered baby unit.

To deregister a baby unit, follow the steps below.

1. On the parent unit, press MENU then scroll to REGISTER.
2. Press then scroll to UNPAIR.
3. Press then scroll to select a baby unit.
4. Press to confirm. When unpairing is successful, SUCCEED will appear on the screen and you will hear a beep tone.

Reset the baby monitor

1. Press MENU then scroll to RESET.
2. Press two times to confirm.

Set the key tone on or off.

1. Press MENU then scroll to KEY TONE.
2. Press two times to confirm.

Temperature

1. Set the temperature format
2. Press MENU then scroll to TEMPERATURE
3. Press then scroll to °C/°F.
4. Press then scroll to select a desired option. Press to confirm.
5. Set the temperature alert
6. Press MENU then scroll to TEMPERATURE.
7. Press then scroll to TEMP ALERT.
8. Press then scroll to select HIGH TEMP/LOW TEMP.
9. Press then press to adjust the temperature. Press to confirm.

Note: You can only set the lowest and highest temperature for all baby units but not to an individual unit. The temperature range is limited to 14°C/57°F and 39°C/102°F. When the temperature is below 14°C/57°F, the screen displays “LL”.
It shows “HH” when the temperature is higher than 39°C/102°F.

Set the beeping alert on or off

1. Press MENU then scroll to BEEP ALERT.
2. Press two times to confirm.

Set the language

1. Press MENU then scroll to LANGUAGE.
2. Press then scroll to the desired language. Press to confirm.

Set the night light to a different brightness level or off

1. Press MENU then scroll to NIGHT LIGHT.
2. Press then scroll to select a baby unit,
3. Press and scroll to choose among OFF / LOW / MEDIUM or HIGH. Press to confirm.

Lullabies playback for the baby unit

1. Make sure the baby unit(s) are switched on,
2. On the parent unit, press MENU then scroll o LULLABY.
3. Press then scroll to select a baby unit, press two times to confirm.

During lullabies playback, you can perform the following actions:

• To stop lullabies playback, repeat step 2 and 3.
• To adjust the volume, repeat step 2. Then select a baby unit, press , scroll to VOLUME. Press and scroll and select the desired volume level. You can choose among 5 different volume levels. Press to confirm.
• To select a lullaby, repeat step 2. Then select a baby unit, press then scroll to CHOOSE. Press and scroll to the desired option. You can choose among 5 lullabies or PLAY ALL. Press to confirm.
• To adjust the play time, repeat step 2. Then select a baby unit, press and scroll to TIMER. Press and scroll to the desired TIMER. You can choose among 5MIN / 10MIN / 15MIN or CONSTANT. Press to confirm.

Set the baby unit volume level

1. Press MENU then scroll to BU VOLUME.
2. Press then scroll to select a baby unit.
3. Press and scroll to choose among LOW MEDIUM or HIGH.
   Press to confirm.

Voice activated alert (VOX)
It is the microphone sensitivity level of your baby unit. You can adjust it so that the baby unit turns on and transmits sounds to the parent unit when it detects noise above a certain level.

Set the VOX level

1. Press MENU then scroll to VOX.
2. Press then scroll to select LEVEL.
3. Press then scroll to select a baby unit.
4. Press and scroll to choose among 4 levels or OFF. Press to confirm.

Set the sound alert on or off

1. Press MENU then scroll to VOX.
2. Press then scroll to select SOUND ALERT.
3. Press two times to confirm.

Notes:

• The VOX setting has OFF, LEVEL 1, LEVEL 2, LEVEL 3 and LEVEL 4. If you set the VOX level to OFF, all sounds will be detected by the baby unit and heard from the parent unit. Conversely, If you set the VOX level to LEVEL 4,only louder baby sounds will be detected by the baby unit and heard from the parent unit. The sound detection sensitivity at Level 4 is higher than at Level 3 and so on. The lowest sensitivty is at Level 1 where only loud crying or screeching sounds from your baby can be heard.
• When the sound alert is activated, the sound alert icon is on and the speaker of the parent unit is muted, the parent unit beeps when sounds are detected by the baby unit.
• When VOX is set to OFF, the baby units’ icon will not flash and the parent unit will not have a sound alert beep, even if there is sound on the baby units.
• When VOX is set to Level 1, 2, 3 or 4, the icon of the baby unit will flash to indicate sound detection.
• When VOX is set to Level 1, 2, 3 or 4, the parent unit’s speaker is muted and Sound Alert is set to ON, the parent unit will emit a sound alert beep for the selected baby units that detect sound.
• When Sound Alert is set to OFF, there will be no beeps from the parent unit in any case.

Help

The power/linking LED Indicator on the parent unit does not turn on.

• Check whether the parent unit is powered on.
• Check whether the batteries are correctly installed and not drained.
• Connect the parent unit to the power supply to recharge it.

The power/linking LED indicator on the parent unit flashes.

• The parent unit and the baby unit may be out of range with each other. Reduce the distance between the units. Make sure the distance between the parent unit and baby unit is less than 450 meters (1500 feet).
• The baby unit may be powered off. Press and hold on the baby unit to power it on.

Unable to hear the sound or baby cry from the parent unit.

• The volume level in the parent unit may be set too low. Increase the volume level of the parent unit. Refer to section 4.4 for volume level settings.
• The parent unit and the baby unit may be out of range with each other. Make sure the distance between the parent unit and baby unit is is less than 450 meters (1500 feet).

The Audio Baby Monitor system produces a high-pitched noise.

• The parent unit and the baby unit are too close with each other. Move the baby and parent units further apart. Make sure the distance between the parent unit and baby unit is less than 450 meters (1500 feet).
• The speaker volume of the parent unit may be set too high. Decrease the volume of the parent unit. Refer to section 4.4 for volume level settings.

No temperature reading is shown on the display.
Inside the battery compartment of the baby unit, there are pogo pin contacts. There is contamination on them. Clean it with a slightly damp cloth or with an anti-static cloth.

Powered by non-rechargeable batteries.
If for any reason the Ni-MH batteries are lost and you would like to use the baby monitor, you can install AAA size non-rechargeable batteries, such as alkaline batteries, to power your baby monitor. In this case, make sure the AC power adapters are not connected to the units for charging.

• Keep your audio baby monitor away from hot, humid areas or strong sunlight, and do not let it get wet.

Defects or damage that result from: (a) improper operation, storage, misuse or abuse, accident or neglect, such as physical damage (cracks, scratches, etc.) to the surface of the product resulting from misuse; (b) contact with liquid, water, rain, extreme humidity or heavy perspiration, sand, dirt or the like, extreme heat, or food; (c) use of the Products or Accessories for commercial purposes or subjecting the Product or Accessory to abnormal usage or conditions; or (d) other acts which are not the fault of Motorola or MZGW are excluded from coverage.

Use of Non-Motorola branded Products and Accessories. Defects or damage that result from the use of Non-Motorola branded or certified Products or Accessories or other peripheral equipment are excluded from coverage.
Unauthorized Service or Modification. Defects or damages resulting from service, testing, adjustment, installation, maintenance, alteration, or modification in any way by someone other than Motorola, MZGW or its authorized service centers, are excluded from coverage.

Altered Products. Products or Accessories with (a) serial numbers or date tags that have been removed, altered or obliterated; (b) broken seals or that show evidence of tampering; (c) mismatched board serial numbers; or (d) nonconforming or non-Motorola branded housings, or parts, are excluded from coverage.
Communication Services. Defects, damages, or the failure of Products or Accessories due to any communication service or signal you may subscribe to or use with the Products or Accessories is excluded from coverage.

How to Obtain Warranty Service or Other Information?

You will receive instructions on how to ship the Products or Accessories at your expense and risk, to a MZGW Authorized Repair Center.

To obtain service, you must include: (a) the Product or Accessory; (b) the original proof of purchase (receipt) which includes the date, place and seller of the Product; (c) if a warranty card was included in your box, a completed warranty card showing the serial number of the Product; (d) a written description of the problem; and, most Importantly; (e) your address and telephone number.

These terms and conditions constitute the complete warranty agreement between you and MZGW regarding the Products or Accessories purchased by you, and supersede any prior agreement or representations, including representations made in any literature publications or promotional materials issued by MZGW or representations made by any agent, employee or staff of MZGW, that may have been made in connection with the said purchase.
