Product Usage Instructions
Purpose
All ErgoSlings in this range are Universal full slings intended for lifting or transferring individuals with reduced mobility. It is essential to use the sling in combination with appropriate hoists.

Check Before Use

Lifting
- Position the sling behind the user’s back with the colored loop aligning with the spine.
- Slide the sling beneath the user’s lower back.
- Place leg supports alongside the user’s legs and feed leg straps underneath.
- Cross over leg straps if using the Basic sling.
- Attach sling straps to the hook on the spreader bar.
- Lift the user carefully, adjusting the sling position as needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can these slings be used with any type of hoist?
A: These slings are compatible with both stationary and mobile personal hoists for lifting operations.
Q: How can I determine the correct size of the sling to use?
A: Refer to the size chart provided in the manual. The colored loop on the sling indicates the size and centre line for proper alignment.
PURPOSE
- All ErgoSlings in this range are Universal full slings that are intended for use in lifting or transferring people with reduced mobility.
- Transfer can be achieved in combination with stationary or mobile personal hoists.
- These slings can be used at hospitals, in the context of home care, at institutions, and in private homes.
- The slings can be used for transfers from bed to a wheelchair/chair or from a chair to a bathing and toilet chair etc.
- All models of the Universal sling are available in various sizes, and some are available with or without a head support. See the specifications for the various sling models in this user manual.
- Note: All sling models are described in this manual. Illustrations and descriptions are applicable to all versions unless a separate description is provided.
- Note: ErgoSlings must not be used for any purposes other than those described in this user manual.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Important – Warning
- Read the user manual and these safety instructions thoroughly before using the sling.
- Do not exceed the sling’s maximum lifting capacity.
- Use the correct size and model of sling for the user.
- Make sure the sling has no visible damage or signs of wear. In particular, check that the seams are intact. The hoist straps must not be frayed, and they must not be knotted.
- For hygiene reasons, the sling must be clean. See the washing instructions i n section 10.
- Qualified personnel must always be present when using and placement of the sling and during lifting.
- It must be ensured that hazardous situations do not arise when using any othe equipment, e.g.: the sling straps becoming caught in the wheels of a wheelchair, o similar.
- It must be ensured that neither the helper nor the user can be injured while using the sling.
- The user must never be left alone in the sling.
- The helper is responsible for ensuring that the sling is used properly and is also responsible for ensuring that safety is maintained. See section 3. Check before use
CHECK BEFORE USE
The carer is responsible for ensuring that the sling is checked before use, and that instructions for use have been provided.
Check the following points before use:
- Check that the sling used is the correct model and is the right size so that it is right for the lifting situation and the user.
- Note: All the slings have a colored loop that indicates the size and the centre line of the sling.
- Size chart with head support ( all measurements are approximate)
- Size chart without head support (all measurements are approximate)
- It is important to check the width of the spreader bar is correct and it fits the measured width of the user’s shoulder.
- Check that the fabric of the sling and the straps are intact. There must not be any wear or damaged seams.
- Check that the sling is clean.
- If in any doubt about how to use the sling, Winncare can be contacted for advice and guidance.
LIFTING
Note: The lifting situation must always be planned, and it must be ensured that the user feels secure when being lifted in the sling.
Lifting from a sitting position:
Applies to Basic, Comfort, and Amputee slings.
- Place the sling behind the user’s back with the colored loop by the label indicating the centre line. The centre line must be aligned with the user’s spine.
- Push your hand down into the positioning pocket and push the sling as far as possible beneath the user’s lower back.
- Place the sling’s leg supports alongside the user’s legs and carefully feed the leg straps underneath the legs.
- Note: Make sure you do not pull on the straps when placing them underneath the user’s legs. It can help the procedure to place the user’s feet on a footstool or by using a slide material.
- Applies to the Basic sling:
- Once both leg supports have been correctly positioned beneath the legs, cross over the leg straps.
- Attach the sling straps to the hook on the spreader bar. of the instructions.
- Now carefully lift the user up. When the straps are stretched out, the sling can be adjusted, to ensure the correct positioning of the sling.
Applies to Amputee slings:
- Follow points 1-3 for “Lifting from a sitting position”.
- For the amputation sling, adjust the Velcro straps around the Femur part.
- Cross the short, colored strap over the lifting strap on the opposite side. (A)
- Next, cross the strap from the leg supports with the leg straps from the insides of the thigh (B).
- Attach the sling straps to the hook on the spreader bar. See page 8 of the instructions.
- Now carefully lift the user up. When the straps are stretched out, the sling can be adjusted, to ensure the correct positioning of the sling.
Applies to Comfort slings:
- Follow points 1-3 for “Lifting from a sitting position”.
- Cross the short, colored strap over the lifting strap on the opposite side. (A) Next cross straps from the legs support with the leg straps from the insides of the thigh (B).
- Attach the sling straps to the hook on the spreader bar. See page 8 of the instructions.
- Now carefully lift the user. Once the straps are straightened out, the sling can be straightened so that it is positioned correctly.
Lifting from a lying position:
Applies to all sling types Basic, Comfort, Amputee, and Hammock.
- Place the user on his or her side and fold up the sling to its centre line. Place the folded part beneath the user.
- Next roll the user onto his or her other side, completely unfold the sling, and then return the user to a lying position.
- Place the leg straps underneath the legs and pull them out between the user’s legs.
- Note! On Hammock slings, do not cross leg straps.
- Attach the sling straps to the hook on the spreader bar. of the instructions.
- Now carefully lift the user up. When the straps are stretched out, the sling can be adjusted, to ensure the correct positioning of the sling.
Attach the sling to the spreader bar
- Winncare renounces any liability if the sling is not correctly attached to the hook on the spreader bar.
- It is always the responsibility of the helper to ensure that the correct sling is used and that it is suitable for the need/purpose.
- Attach the sling strap to the open hook.
- Note: On some models, there are straps of different colours. It is important here that the same color is used on the hooks on each side to avoid an uneven lift.
- Pulling the strap down causes the lock to close with a ”click”.
- Note: The lifting hook is designed in such a way that the user’s weight automatically keeps the hook locked.
- To unhook the strap, pulling the strap up causes the hook to open.
- Note: Care should be taken to avoid the user’s fingers becoming caught in the hook.

Use:
- Universal Basic is for users with a lack of upper body stability and who therefore require extra support to their thighs and upper body.

Leg sling
Extension strap
Application:
- The leg sling is used when there is a need to lift heavy legs or arms or to keep them in a lifted position
- This can be in the context of adjusting the working height when treating edema with compression bandages or socks when treating wounds, or when assisting in the personal hygiene of very heavy people.
- Extension straps are used when having to adjust the lifting gear further for the current patient and lifting situation.
- The extension straps can be used, for example, to increase the distance between the user’s head and spreader bar or to open the user’s hip angle.
- Note: It is always the lowest weight capacity part of the lifting system that applies to the complete lifting equipment.

MAINTENANCE
Washing instructions
- All Universal slings can be machine-washed and tumble-dried at a low temperature.
- Follow the washing instructions as indicated by symbols and printed instructions on the sling label.
- Note: On models with head supports, the plastic insertion must be removed before machine-washing.
- Note: Do not use softener or washing powder with bleach.
- A key to the symbols can be found under section 12.3 – Symbols and abbreviations. 10.2 Storage If the sling is not being used, it must be packed in its original packaging and stored in a clean and dry place at a temperature between 0-40°C.
INSPECTION
- ErgoSlings is inspected at least once every six months under EN/ISO 10535:2007, Annex B, which recommends that qualified professionals with knowledge of the use of slings carry out an inspection.
- The legal owner of the product is responsible for ensuring that inspection is carried out. An inspection schedule can be requested from Winncare.
Inspection of ErgoSlings Body Support Unit – every 6 months
Ensure the Body-support Unit to be used.
- Has a body-support unit manufacturer’s label.
- Has a body-support unit label that is easy to read (e.g., is not faded or damaged)
- That the material of the body-support unit has:
- Stitching that is intact – there are no signs of fraying or loose stitching especially where the straps/loops are attached to the body of the body-support unit.
- The fabric has no rips, tears, holes, or fraying.
- Is not damaged by chemicals or heat, e.g., stiff, rough, brittle, or puckered.
Ensure the following for fastenings, straps, and coupling or connecting attachment point(s):
- Textile connectors (if present), e.g., loops, have no rips, tears, or holes, fraying, shrinkage, or stretching.
- Plastic or metal connectors (if present), e.g., clips, keys, or clip connectors, are not cracked or worn.
- Plastic or metal connectors (if present) are securely attached to straps.
- Straps are securely fixed to the body-support unit.
- Fastenings such as Velcro® closures or security buckles are securely fixed and not damaged.
- Have not been altered, e.g., knots in the attachment straps.
Guarantee
There is a two-year guarantee on materials and manufacture defects, on condition that there is compliance with safety and washing instructions.
QUALITY AND THE ENVIRONMENT
- ErgoSlings have an expected lifetime of 5 years assuming normal daily use.
- This also assumes that the recommended inspection and maintenance is carried out.
Disposal
ErgoSlings may be disposed of together with flammable materials at the recycling center, or they can be returned to Winncare.
Quality
- Winncare is certified under ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 quality standards.
- These certificates mean that the product and the company meet applicable international standards for quality management and standards for traceability for medical products.
- ErgoSlings are classified as a Medical equipment class 1 product.
