Introduction

The digital GPS Speedometer displays the speed in MPH or km/h.
It also provides information on driving direction angle, minimum driving time, trip distance, acceleration time, and compass direction.

The digital GPS Speedometer displays the speed in MPH or km/h. Other settings includes, driving direction angle, minimum driving time, trip distance, acceleration time and compass direction.

  1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific function. Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended purpose.
  2. Do not use the tool if any parts are damaged, broken or misplaced. Repair or replace the parts.
  3. Only use USB cable designated for your tool or device. The USB Micro-B charging cable carries 5 volts with a current of 2 amps. Check that the USB connector has the USB logo. Using the wrong cable can damage your tool/device or cause an injury.
  4. Do not use this device if the USB cable is frayed or damaged, as an electric shock or surge may occur, resulting in a personal injury or property damage.
  5. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications.

UNPACKING

WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction and personal injury.
Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage. Make sure that all items in the contents are included.

IDENTIFICATION KEY

  • A GPS Speedometer Unit
  • B Display Screen, Left-Hand Side – Displays the driving speed in the selected speed unit or the driving direction angle
  • C Drive and Speed Unit Indicators
    • DIR – Driving Direction Angle indicates your current driving direction based on a 360º range.
    • Speed Unit – Either displays MPH or km/h based on menu selection.
  • D Vehicle Speed Range Bar – The speed bar increases the faster you travel. The bar adjusts for whether MPH or km/h is selected.
  • E Compass – The compass will flash until a GPS signal is established. The arrows will illuminate to show the cardinal direction the car is travelling.
  • F Satellite Quantity Range Bar – The bar increases as more satellites connect with your GPS unit.
  • G GPS, MIN, Trip and ASL Indicators
    • GPS – The number of satellites connected to the GPS unit.
    • MIN – The number of minutes you were travelling on the current trip.
    • TRIP – The distance you have travelled. The distance is based on the chosen speed unit.
    • ASL – Your vehicle’s current altitude above sea level.
    • a+ – The number of seconds it takes your vehicle to reach 100 km/h (60 mph).
  • H Display Screen, Right-Hand Side – Displays the time, number of satellites, driving distance, driving time and acceleration time
  • I Decorative Light – Shown on the left and right sides of the display.
  • J USB Micro-B Cable Connector

  • L USB Micro-B Port – Located at the back left-hand side of the GPS unit (not shown).

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION

Letter references in parenthesis (A) refer to the included Identification Key.

  1. Peel one side of the double-sided tape (K) from the paper.
  2. Press the tape against the bottom of the GPS speedometer unit.
  3. Repeat with the other piece of double-sided tape.
  4. Clean a spot on the dashboard where you wish to apply the GPS speedometer unit (A) and allow to dry.
  5. Once a final position is found, tilt the unit forward and remove the paper from the double-sided tape. Tilt the unit back into position and press the unit down to adhere the unit to the dashboard.
  6. Plug the USB-A connector into your vehicle’s USB port. A 12V plug adaptor may be required for older vehicles. Arrange the cable so it is out of the way. You may need to use cable ties (not included).
  7. Plug the USB Micro-B cable connector to the USB port on the GPS speedometer.
  8. The GPS speedometer will turn on as soon as power is supplied to the unit. You will need to disconnect the USB cable from the power source to shut off the GPS Speedometer unit.

OPERATION

WAVE BUTTON FUNCTIONS
The wave button is located at the top of the GPS speedometer unit (A).
A short press is one (1) second long. A long press is two (2) seconds long, unless otherwise stated.

DISPLAY OPTIONS
You can change the display options. These options will become the new default until the next factory reset.

A new display option appears with each short press of the wave button in the following order:

  • The default display is the compass (E),both range bars (D and F), both display screens (B and H), the drive and speed unit indicator (C) and the decorative lights (I).
  • Left-hand display screen,
  • Left-hand display screen, compass and both range bars.
  • Drive and speed unit indicator, left-hand and right-hand display screens.
  • Drive and speed unit indicator, left-hand display screen, compass and both range bars.
  • Left-hand display screen and decorative lights.
  • The compass, both range bars, the left-hand display screen, the driveand speed unit indicator and the decorative lights.
  • Decorative lights, drive and speed unit indicator, left-hand and right-hand display screens
  • Default display.

CHANGE THE INDICATORS
Below both display screens are the indicators (C and G). Pushing the wave button either left or right will cause the indicator on that side to cycle to the next indicator option. It will go through each option and then return to the original option.
The format and number displayed in the display screen above the indicator will change, depending on the indicator selected. An indicator that may have more than one option, such as the km/h or MPH, will use the option selected in the menu. To change it, you will need to enter the menu.

  1. Press and hold the wave button until the default screen clears and the left-hand display screen shows the number 1 and the right-hand display will show the current value.
    • Push the wave button left or right and release immediately to change the value by one number.
    • Push and hold the wave button to run through the number range quickly.
    • Pushing the button left will decrease the value.
    • Pushing the button right will increase the value
  2. Press the wave button down quickly and release to move to the next menu number.
  3. Press and hold the wave button to save your settings and exit the menu.
  4. A buzzer will sound when an alarm is triggered. To silence the alarm, push the wave button left for two seconds. To reactivate the alarm buzzer function, press left for two seconds again.

MENU 1.

Function: Speed Range: 50 to 150 Default Screen Value: 107

The changes the speed value displayed on the HUD to match the speed displayed on the vehicle’s dashboard speedometer value. Make sure both are displaying either MPH or km/h. Set the speed unit with Menu 5.

1.  Determine the difference between the Vehicle and GPS speedometer.

Vehicle speedometer is 100 km/h. GPS speedometer displays 105 km/h for a difference of 5. The speed unit doesn’t matter, only the number difference.

2.  The default value is 107. Reduce this number by the difference of 5 to 102 and then exit the parameter menu. The GPS speedometer and dashboard speedometer should now match.

MENU 2.

Function: Speeding Alarm| Range: 0 to 250| Default Screen Value: 150

Alarm sounds when the vehicle speed exceeds the set value.

Make sure to adjust the value based on the speed unit selected in Menu 5.

MENU 3.

Function: Fatigue Driving

Alarm sounds when the vehicle has been in motion for longer than the set value. The value is the number of hours before the alarm will sound.

Driving fatigue can reduce mental and physical performance. The alarm encourages the driver to stop and exit from the vehicle for a short break to reduce the effects of fatigue.

MENU 4.

Function: Brightness Level| Range: 0 to 11| Default Screen Value: 0

Adjust the brightness of the LED projection display.

Zero (0) is an automatic setting. The unit will change the brightness based on the amount of light shining on the light sensor (M).

Increasing the range from 1 to 11 will override the light sensor and increase the brightness.

MENU 5.

Function: Speed Unit Range: 0 to 1 Default Screen Value: 0

Select the speed unit. Select zero (0) for km/h and select one (1) for MPH.

MENU 6.

Function: Time Adjustment| Range: 0:00 to 12:00| Default Screen Value: 0:00

Adjust the time displayed to match your local time. The default is Eastern Standard Time (EST). Wait until the GPS unit connects to the satellite and then adjust the time. Push the wave button right to add a half-hour and left to deduct a half-hour. Push and hold to quickly increase or decrease the number a half-hour at a time.

Once set and saved, the correct local time will display once a satellite connection is established.

MENU 7.

Function: Factory Reset Range: 0 to 1 Default Screen Value: 0

Change the default setting from zero (0) to one (1), This will remove all changes to the entire menu and reset it back to the factory setting.

Press the wave button down and hold to reset and exit from the menu.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

  1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to control and will have fewer problems.
  2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
  3. Keep the tool clean, dry and free from oil/grease at all times.
  4. Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.
  5. Disconnect the GPS unit from the vehicle if you are not using the vehicle for a week or longer. The GPS unit will last a month on stand-by, drawing from the vehicle battery. Disconnecting the GPS unit will stop the standby function from draining the battery.

WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.

DISPOSAL
Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.
Contact your local municipality for a list of disposal facilities or by-laws for electronic devices, batteries, oil or other toxic liquids.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not function properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualified technician service the tool.

| 1.       Check that the USB cable is properly seated at the USB and micro-B port.

2.  a. Check for bent pins or damage to the GPS unit.

2. b. Test the GPS unit with a USB 2.0 to USB Micro-B connector cable to determine if the unit is receiving power.

3.       Connect unit to another vehicle to see if GPS unit is the issue.

Inaccurate speed.| GPS Unit requires adjustment.| See Menu Settings – Menu 1 to adjust the number displayed.
Driving Direction display error.| Driving too slow for Driving Direction requirement.| Increase speed to exceed 5 km/h and display will correct itself.
No speed displayed or speed still showing positive number after vehicle has stopped.| Satellite reception is absent or it is blocked and retaining last number.| Correct speed will display once a satellite connection is reestablished.
