,&. WARNING

The use o f any materi al other than that spe c ified for t he installation of this pool could accelerate t he deterioration of the pool.

REQUIRED POOL EQUIPMENT

A basic circulation and filt ration system MUST BE INSTALLED as follows:

· Askimmer · Apool pump · A f ilter · A water inl et · A bottom drain (optional)

We recommend that you have your circu lation and filtration syst em installed by certified installers. Contact your retail er or dealer.

IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER BEFORE INSTALLATION

We strongly advise you to hire installers recommended by your dealer. If you decide to install your pool yourself, we reco mmend a minimum of 3 people.

,&. WARNING

Follow the installation steps and recommendat ions carefully without o mitting any. Serious injury and/or material damage mayoccur.

1. The inst allation st eps in th is manual assume that t he gro und is perfectly st raight. 2. ln the event of a st eeply sloping site, or if you req uire slopes in your pool and / or a bottom drain, we recommend t hat you contact an installation professional. 3 . Vour pool must b e perfectly level: once inst alled, your pool’s foundation must have a maximum 1/4 ” difference in level f rom one end of the pool to the other, regardless of size.
POOL LOCATION

,&. WARNING

Vour in stallation must comply with the codes of t he authorities having jurisdict ion in your area. Vou may need building , plumbing, electrica l, zoning or other permits. Check your local bylaws before beginning installation, as they may affect your cho ice of pool location.

GENERAL TOPOGRAPHY AND SITE DRAINAGE
The first and most important step is to choose the ideal location for your pool. This will determine the longevity of your pool.
Ground levelling is crucial. If the pool is more than 1/4 ” sloped, it will put more weight on the low side, and this uneven weight distrib ution can cause t he low side t o sink further, lead t o buckling of the studs or add additional stress to t he wall, or even cause itto break.
The site must drain well andb e solid. lt must siope posit ively (i.e. away from t he pool) and not form depressions, as this would result in water accumulation, compromising your foundation and possibly damaging your pool. Vou should have at least 6 feet of positive siope around t he pool. If you have any questions about t he slopes on your property, please consult an experienced in st aller or your dealer.

TYPES OF PROHIBITED INSTALLATIONS

· Do not bury your above-ground pool. Thi sw ill automatically void the warranty. Vour aboveground poo l is not desig ned t o be partially or complet ely buried. The pool wa ll d raws its st rength from the pressure of the wat er pushing evenly outwards against t he wall.
· Backfill provides poor support under the pool, so you should always dig the high side to level the ground, rather than adding sand or so il t o the low side t o b uild it up. Backfilling w ill void t he warranty.
· The soil must be free of rocks, stones and tree root s.
· Never inst all your pool directly on concrete, asphalt , tar paper, grass, peat moss, wood, gravel, earth or clay.
· Position your pool away from trees, power lines or cables, clotheslines and buildings (house, garage, et c.). Swimmers could use them t o d ive or get caught bathers could use them t o dive in or get caught, causing serious injuries.
Never inst all your pool over underground power lines, gas lines or septic t anks.
Make sure that none of the building ‘s gutters drain onto your pool’s foundation.
If your pool is located near a deck, it’s import antto drain the area underneat h t he deck near the pool.
· lt is not recommended t o finish a pool deck on t op of ledges . If it is, it should be spaced

4

CARVIN” SOLSTICE OVAL ABOVE GROUND POOL l USER’S GUIDE

vert ically at least 4 inches f rom the pool.
· The pool must be located at least 6 f eet (1.83 m) from any e lectrical out let. All 125-volt, 15 and 20 amps outlets w ithin 20 ft (6.0 m) of t he pool must be prot ected by a ground -fault circuit interrupt er (GFCI). The 20 ft (6 m) distance is measured via the shortest stra ig ht line distance t he power cord would follow without piercing a f loor, wall , ceiling, door, w indow or other permanent barrier.
· An in stall ation should never be mad e on un stable ground, w ith drainage problems or significant ground movement, or w ithin 33 feet of a tree.

CORROSI ON-RELATED PROBLEMS
lt is important to avoid environments that promote corrosion, such as prolonged or permanent exposure to stagnant water. Metal components, such as the wall , must be allowed to dry. Corrosion caused by failure to comply with the recommendations listed below will not be considered a manufacturing defect:
· Do netbury your above-ground pool. Your above-ground pool is net designed to be partially or completely buried. The pool wall must never be in direct contact w ith the ground or water. The top of the bottom rails must always be visible outside the pool.
· Never install your pool w here chemicals have been applied, as this can damage your liner and corrode the pool wall.
· Never install your pool directly on the ground; it should always be installed on a base that drains, such as compaction sand or fine rock dust.
· Never use organic materials that retain moisture under or around your pool , such as : peat m ess as a base under your liner, mulch or soil around the outside of your pool for landscap ing, etc.
· Choose a location that is not in a depression where water collects, near a siope where there is freeze-thaw or rain runoff, where the soil has drainage problems, in a f lood zone or where there are underground water veins.
· Check frequently for leaks in the liner, water inlet and skimmer, and make sure that your filtration system is watertight. Avoiding of checking these points is considered negligence.
· Check the pool wall regularly for impacts or scratches ca used by objects such as rocks, lawnmowers, edgers or other objects. These damage the wall’s protect ive finish and initiate corrosion w hich, over time, will deteriorate the pool wall.

SITE DRAINAGE
Whether it’s because it’s anew installation, your site is located in a low- lying area of your land, the presence of w aterveins or simply because your land is poorly drained, you mayneed t o consider installing additional drai nage to keep water away from the perimeter of your pool. ln ail cases, these installations should be handled by professionals.

5

GROUND WORK PREPARATION

& WARNING

Pl ease note that the installation diagrams presented in this m anual are based on a 12×21 aval pool. If you have a pool of a different size, you will find that your pool has m ore or less metal sections t o install.

Vou should be aware that the levelling and foundation work will take more t ime and labour than the rest of the steps, wh ic h must be carried out properly in order t o increase the longevit y of your aval pool.

The permitted tolerance for the flatness of the ground and the level of the central metal structure and its rounded ends must be a maximum of ± 1/ 4 in (6 .35 mm) . Failure t o respect the general t olerance on the overall level of the pool could cause damage t o your pool, your property or cause injury to users.

STEP1
Refer t o the ” marking diagram” and the “marking dimensions table”. Once you have the measurements and you have the location of the pool, you will mark the ground wit h coloured spray paint that will not fade during ground preparation. Ali pools require extra space all round to allow t he foundation to exceed it. ln addition, the f ootbeams of the pool centre section will extend 12″ underground beyond the pool wa ll.
1. Drive a stake at points A , B and C (center), at least 6″ into the ground . This will define the centres of the round secti ons and the centre of the pool and enable the centre sections t o be aligned to the measurement specified in the table.
2. Ti e a string t o a can of spray paint to be able to draw the 2 halves of the circ le. Use the radius in t he table below to t ie the canto the correct length and spray t he 2 halves.
3. Measure from the middle of the st akes t o draw a straight line on each side tojoin the 2 halves of the circles t o form an oblong.
4. Draw the outeroorridor of the trench as shown on the marking diagram.

GROUND LEVELLING
STEP1
Once the site has been correct ly marked, remove t he sod from the installation area. We recommend using a mechanical hoe or shovel. Vou will need to remove ail branches, roots, stones and weeds from the install ation area. These could damage your li ner and your pool.
STEP2
The best way t o level the ground and remove t he grass is t o st art at the lowest po int of the inst allation surface. Make sure the pool is installed o n hard ground. lt is not ad visable t o add soil to level t he surface, but rather to scrape off the high spots, as this soil will compact o nce the pool is full of water, destabilising t he level of t he pool and possibly causing damage.

Rgermasosveatththeissopiol ainntd

Only remove only grass at the lowest level.

& WARNING & WARNING

Don’t add so il in low-lying areas. lt w ill never be as compact as the existing soil.
Make sure there are no elect rical w ires, septic t anks, sumps, we lls, roots (st ump s) or buried d ebris. There should always be a posit ive slope away from the pool. Always inst all the pool on high ground. If it is inst alled on low ground, thiscouId dest abilise it and cause damage.

STEP3
Once your lawn has been removed and the installation site cleared of all debris, you can start levelling the ground. This is one of the m ost important steps. The st raighter the level (maximum deviatio n of ± 1/4 ” (6.35 mm)), the easier the following steps w ill be. The best tools for levelling t he ground are a gardener’s rake, a straight plank and a laser t ransit level. If you don’t have access to a laser transit level, use acarpent er’s level on a plank. Check t hat the entire surface is straight in bath axes.

STEP4
Compact t he entire surface of the levelledground t wice using a mechanical comp actor. Make sure t he f loor is perfectly straight af t er this operation. If this is not t he case, start again until the f loor is perfect ly levelled.

THE FOUNDATION
STEP1
Place mounds of aggregate around the perimeter of the pool every 4 feet on the dimension line of your pool, which you will spread out in the next step.

STEPS
Moisten the aggregate. Compact the outer perimeter twice using acompactor. Measure the flatness and thickness ofthe aggregate in the circle. Once compacted, it should be 2 inches thick. The base of your pool should rest on a very f iat surface with no space under the feet or rails. The maximum slope of the surface is 1/4 inch from one end to the other. If the f latness and thickness are not adequate, start over.

.,

IN

STEP2
Spread the aggregate around the pool line to a w idth of 16″. That is to say, 8″ outside and 8″ inside the dimension line of your pool. The thickness of the uncompacted spread aggregate should be between 4 and 5 inches, resulting in a compacted thickness of 2 inches.

Épaisseur nivelé com pacté de 2 pouces.
INSTALLATION WITH CONCRETE BLOCKS FOR ROUND SECTIONS (OPTIONAU
STEP1
First assemble the rails and bottom plates of the t wo round sections at position 5 on the gradation system, then place them on their respective radii at the two ends of t he pool. Measure from peg A or B to the inside of the rai l groove for the exact position, check at ail connection feet.

STEP3
Use the plank you will place on the central stakes and a carpenter’s level to levelthe aggregate in the two semi-circles. Adjust the height of the central stakes to obtain the desired result of 4 to 5 inches of constant, uncompacted aggregate.

STEP2

WALL INSTALLATION

,& DANGER

Do not inst all the wall in windy or st ormy weather. Wait for a ca irn d ay. At least 3 people are needed to install the wall. This could result in serious injury or even death .

STEP 1
Before you start installing the wall, make sure you have the following item sw ithin the circle of the pool rails: t wo sheet s of plywood, some extra aggregat e t o make a cove or prefabricated cove, and a st epladder t o be ab le to climb out of the enclosure form ed by the assembled pool wall.
STEP2
Note that the hole for the water return and the skimmer are locat ed at the end of the st art of the rolled-up wall, so position the roller t o st art the roll-out of your pool wall where you wish t o position these elements. lt is recommended that the skimmer and water return are locat ed in the round sections t o ensure good wat er circulatio n in the pool.
STEP3
Position t he 2 sheet s of plywood inside the pool circle near w here you want to position your pump and filter. Remove t he wall from it s box and place it on a sheet of plywood.
STEP4
St art unrolling the wall by insert ing the bo ttom o f the wall into th e bottom rai l (already positioned). The beginning of the wall should be in the center of a connecting foot to hide the closure behind an upright . Use the plywood sheet s so that the wall doesn’t t ouch t heground.

,& WARNING

Do not put sand inside the bot tom rail, as t his would make it d iffic ult to insert the wall int o it. lt is mandat ory t o clean the inside of the rails to facilitate the insert ion of t he wall into t hem .

STEP5
We suggest inst alling the top rails on top of t he wall as it is unrolled, to give t he wall great er st ability and rigidity. lt’s important to support t he top of t he wall f rom t he out side unt il it’s fully inst alled in the bottom rail and closed. Support it by securing t he to p of t he sheet w it h vinylcoated hooks attached to a rope and staked into t he ground with tent peg s.

12

BASIN ASSEMBLY
Once the wa ll has been complet ely unrolled and inserted into the bottom rails, 3 situations mayoccur:
Wall looks t oo long ( it is not). See st ep 1. Wall appears too short (it is not) . See step 2. The assembly holes at both ends of the wall line up perfectly. Proceed t o step 3.
STEP 1
If your wall seems too long, the spacing between the rails in the f eet needs t o b e enlarged. Gently tap the inside of the feet outwards, so that the pool’s circumference expands slightly. If the wa ll overlap is long, you’II need t o spread the expansion o f the pool over several connections feet.

IMPORTANT

CARVIN” SOLSTICEOVAL ABOVEGROUND POOL I USER’SGUIDE
The screw heads must be inside the pool. Set a t orque spanner to 8.5 N-m (75 in-lbf)
TORQUE8.5N·M (75 IN·LBF)

Tighten the screws one by one as you go up and down, w itho ut forgetting any, w hic h could cause long-term problems.
STEP 4
Cover the inside walljoint and screw heads with 2″ (50mm) wide Duct Tape. Overlap 3 layers of tape t o ensure that the liner is well protected from t he sharp corners of t he screws, and that the curvature of the liner at this position is softened .
STEP 2
If your wall seems t oo short, the spacing between the rails in the feet needs to be narrowed. Gently t ap the outside of the feet inwards t o reduce t he pool’s circumference slightly. Ifthe wall overlap is short, you’II need t o spread t he expansion of the pool over several connections feet.

(lnterior view of the pool)
STEPS
Once the wall is assembled, carry out additional checks to ensure t hat the round sect ions of the pool are perfectly round. To do this, check th e radius of the pool f rom t he centre to t he inside of all t he rails to ensure t hat each distance is t he same. If this is not t he case, adjust t he connect ion f eet by pushing them in or o ut t o obtain perfectly round sections.

lfyou have carried out one of the two steps (1 & 2), you must double- checkthespacing between the rails ln each footto ensurethatthe spaclng Is equal on both sldes of the center ofthe foot.

STEP 3
Once t he holes at the 2 end s of the wall are aligned (or very close t o it), you can assemble them . To do thi s, place the two ends of t he wall one on t op of the other, then add a wall bracket on each side of the wall (inside and outside). To help you align the holes, use a punch t o pass through the holes so that they align correct ly. Then install the screws (interior) and nuts (exterior), but don’t tighten them just yet. lt’s best to put a screw at the b ottom, middle and top to facilitate assembly. Make sure all holes have screws and nuts. Once ail screws and nuts are in place, tighten them to a torque of 8.5 N-m (75 Lbf-in).

A vacuum cleaner is used to remove the air between the liner and the pool wall. By removing the air, the liner will stret c h and stick t o the walls of the pool. This operation will allow you t o correct the surface of the liner to remove wrinkles.

&_ WARNING

Do not use an industrial vacuum c leaner of more than 5 HP, which could suck up the liner and damage it, or even puncture it.

&. WARNING

Make sure that the end of the vacuum hose has no sharp edges that could damage the liner. Tape the edges of the nozzle if in doubt.

STEP 2
On the outside wa ll of the pool, seal the skimmer hole w ith a piece of cardboard and tape around the edge with grey “Duct Tape”. Make sure you cover the rectangular section and t he holes so that no air can seep through.
lnsert the vacuum cleaner hose about 24″ (60cm) into the water inlet hole from the outside. Make sure the hose is at least 6 ” (15cm) awayfrom the coveto avoid moving it or suctioning it.
Fix and seal the vacuum hose t o the outside of the pool wall using grey “Duct Tape”. Be sure to seal t he hose and t he hole to prevent air from seeping in.

CAR DBOA RD

DUCTTAPE

STEP 3
Start the vacuum cleaner. The liner will begin t o stick to the walls. If there are any creases, it’s time to stretch the liner to remove them.
STEP 4
When you see that the liner is no longer moving under suction and there are no c reases, start filling the pool with a hose w hile leaving the hoover running.
Throughout the filllng process: · Check the liner for creases. To prevent the liner from moving, smooth out any c reases visible at the bottom of the pool before there is too much wat er in the p ool. The slow f low of the hose will allow the liner to stretch and give you time to put it b ack in place if you see any c reases. · lnspect the structure regularly. Make sure the bottom rails st ay in place and f iat against t he foundation. Make sure the wall stays in place in the rails and t hat no folds form in t he wall when the weight of the water pulls on the liner. Ift he metal wall bends, stopfilling immediately, examine and correct the problem with the structure.
STEP 5
When there is ab out 12″ (30 cm) of wat er f rom the bottom of the pool, st op the vacuum cleaner, remove the hose from the wat er inlet hole and the cardboard from the skimmer.

STEP 6
W hen the water reaches a levelof12″ (30 cm)from the bottom, you can use afasterwaterflow.

STEP 10
Vou can now switch o n your c irculation and filtration system. Make sure you use and maintain this equipment in accordance w ith t he recommendations of their respective manufacturers.

& WARNING

To allow the pool to expand naturally, the flow rate when filling must not exceed 16 GPM. Do not make the foundation drain protection around the pool until it is completely filled with water.

STEP 7
When the water reaches a level of 24″ (6 0 c m) from the bottom, the liner has stret c hed correctly. lt’s time t o inst all the skimmer and water inlet. Follow the manufacturers’ instructions for the inst allation of these accessories. lt is very important to be meticulous when performing the installation of the skimmer and water inlet, as they could leak and corrode your pool wall.

& WARNING

A basic circulation and filtration syst em MUST BE INSTALLED on yourpool.

STEP 8
The basic filtration system includes, as a minimum, in the order of installation:
Askimmer A recirculation pump A filter A water inlet
Be sure to use and properly maintain t he equipment inaccordance with the recommendations of their respective manufacturers. Do not switch on the eq uipment at this stage. If the water level reaches 2″ below t he inlet hale and the above equipment is not installed, stop filling the pool and install your equipment.
………….__

& WARNING

Never introduce chemicals into the pool through the skimmer. Thiswill cause major problems for yourfiltration system and could damage it in the long term.

INSTALLING SAFETY STICKERS

Before using your pool, the first st epis to affix the safety st ickers. lt isSTRICTLYFORBIDDEN to remove these stickers. If t he stickers supplied are not affixed and visible around your pool, you couId be prosecuted in the event of an accident. FOUNDATION DRAINAGE PROTECTION
To protect the compacted foundation and prevent it from being drained, spread river rock or st one a minimum of 3/4″ diameter all around your pool. A strip at least 10″ wide and 2 to 3 inches thick. The top of the lower rails must remain visible.

& WARNING

Not doing this or using any other organic product such as soil, peat moss, turf, mulch or anyother moisture-retaining substrate will accelerate the deterioration of the pool’s components.

INSPECTION
The parts most likely t o cause a problem w it h leaks are the skimmer and t he wat er inlet . Regularly inspect the area around t hese two components t o c heckthat no water is leaking onto the pool wall. Carry out the necessary repairs to t he skimmer and water inletjoints (or replace them) in order to st op these leakages, as they can cause corrosion and se riously damage the pool’s sheet met al wall, causing it to eventually burst. This couId cause serious damage to your property, that of your neighbours and put lives in danger.
Your pool liner should be inspected regularly for leaks. Water leaks can damage the wall of your pool, as th e water contains corrosive products t hat will accelerat e corrosion. If you detect leaks, ACTION MUST BE TAKEN IMMEDIATELY. Vou can easily repair minor liner damage using a patch kit available from your ret ailer.

& WARNING

Failure t o ca rry out these inspections and repairs w ill invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty.

WATER CHEMISTRY
Water c hemistry p lays an essential role in the good functioning of a swimming pool. Clean, balanced water is essential for the safet y and well- being of pool users, as it can cause illness and infections. Unbalanced water will also lead to premature deterioration of pool components and equipment. That’s w hy it needs to be assessed on a regular basis. A number of products are available to help you assess, treat and rebalance your wat er. For an assessment and advice on the quality and treatment of your wat er, visit your retailer with a water sample. See the table below for the values for balanced pool water.
lt’s importa nt to remember that the filtration system and proper circulation of t he water in the pool account for more than 50% of healt hy water maintenance. lt’s therefore import ant t o ensure that the water c irculates well aro und the pool and t o maintain t he filt ration system regularly t o improve sanitation and reduce algae growth and other bacteria.

& WARNING

Pool water contains a number of product s that are corrosive to the pool wall. lt is import ant to c heck thatthere are no leaks in the liner. Any leaks will lead t o long-term cor rosion of the wall, whi ch will reduce it s st rength. The wall could break and cause major damage t o your property and/or your ne ighbours and could also cause serious injury t o p eople near or in the p ool.

REGULAR CLEANING
Keep the walls and plastic st ructu re clean .Always clean any chemical deposits that mayappear on t he pool’s external surfaces. We recommend cleaning t hese surfaces (struct ure and walls) at least once a year w ith a degreasing cleaning product t hat does not contain bleach. lt is im portant to clean the liner, where deposits can form when the water evaporat es. lt is also recommended t hat any algae deposits on walls or equipment immersed in water should be checked and cleaned regularly.

WINTERISING THE POOL

ln regions w here freezing temperatures occur, it is common practice to close an outdoor swimming poolduring the winter. This isknown as winterisation. This stepshould be considered

21

CARVIN° SOLSTICEOVAL ABOVEGROUND POOL l USER’S GUIDE

as soon as the pool is installed. Ali our pools have been designed to remain assembled outside during the winter. However, the following instructions should be followed when winterising your pool. Proper winterisation should only t ake a f ew heurs and will make spring opening much easier.

& WARNING

Failure to foll ow winterization instruct ionsmay cause irreparable damage t o the pool and /or harm to your home or surrounding structures.

As the water t emperature cools, there is less and less need to add chemicals. lt is, however, necessary t o check the water’s c hemical parameters periodically in order t o keep the water clean and within the recommended values. Failure t o comply with these values could cause the pool liner t o t arnish and shorten il s lifesp an. We reco mmend winteri sing your pool as late as possible (late September/early October) when the water is below 10°C (50° F). At this temperature, micro -organisms proliferate very slowly.

INSPECTION

STEP 1
Before closing the pool each year, check the water parameters (ph, alkalinit y, chlorine, et c .) Water with unadjust ed param eters will damage the liner and could cau se corrosion on the pool wall.
STEP 2
Check that there are no leaks in the liner. To b e sure, fo r a week in early September, check t hat the water level does not drop. If the water level does drop, it means there is a leak. lmmediat ely repair the holes in the liner using repair kit s that can be purc hased from your pool specialist. Check t hat there are no leaks around the skimmer or wat er return . If a leak is found around these elements, action must b e t aken imme diate ly t o rectify th e situation. Check that t he liner is st ill securely f astened t o the t op of the sheet met al wall.

& WARNING

Wat er leaking fro m the li ner during the w inter ca n cau se significa nt soil movement when the wat er freezes under the pool. This can cause major damage t o your pool.

STEP 3
Check t he structure of the pool for scratches and/or corrosion on the wall. If necessary, repair them using an anti-cor rosion enamelling p roduct. Scrub the rusted surface with a wire brush, make sure ail the rust is removed, apply t he anti-cor rosion product and paint t he surface t o mat ch t he colour of the wa ll. Also check that t he wall joint (joining the 2 ends of the pool wall) is solid and that the screws are t ight.

WATER PREPARATION

& WARNING

lt is important never to lower the wat er in the pool if it has frozen and f orms a block of ice, as this can ca use considerable damage to the liner and the pool.

WINTERISING OF THE FILTRATION AND RECIRCULATION SYSTEM

STEP 1
Disconnect ail hoses from the filtrat ion system: pump, filt er, skimmer, valves, wat erreturn, et c.
STEP 2
Drain the pump, filt er and water heater and winterise them according to the recommendations in their respective manuals.
STEP 3
If you have CARVIN® wat er features, it is important t o winterize them according t o the recommendations in your manuals.

STEP 4
The winterizat ion of the water return and t he skimmer is different according to the climat e of the region in which you are locat ed. Ask your ret ailer for recommendations.
For regions where there is frost: lt is imperative never t o obstrue! t he return water and skimmer openings. Make sure t hat the water entering the water retu rn drains away f rom t he pool at ail times. Regularly check t hat the openings are not blocked by ice.
STEP 5
If your pool is equipped with a bottom drain (for reglons where frost 1s present), it is essential to use ant ifreeze specially designed for swimming pools to prevent the pipe from freezing and rupturing.
Make sure that the wat er level in the pool is correct ly lowered, then remove the hose that connect s your filt ration syst em t o your bottom drain. Make sure t hat t he end of the hose is above the water level at ail t im es (so that the pool does not drain through it). Empty t he antifreeze slowly into the hose until you see it coming out of the bottom drain . Make sure t he hose st ays above t he level of the wat er inlet throughout the winter by securing it to the ledge.

STEP 6
Store ail components; pump, ladder and any other product that needs to be st ored in a wellt empered place prot ected f rom t he elements.

& WARNING

Do not swit c hoffthe filtration system unt ilthe pool is completely
closed, to keep the wat er healthy until it is winterised.

STEP 1
Keep your pool wat er within acceptable param eters in t he weeks leading up t o its closure.

STEP 2
Clean the bottom of your pool of any dirt before lowering the water level.

STEP 3
Lower the wat er level t o bet ween 6″ and 20″ (15 cm and 50 c m) below t he level of the wat er
return, depending on the climate of your region. Check with your retailer for recommendations on the wat er level t o maintain when winterizing .

For reqions where there is frost, the pool must be emptied between 15 ” and 20″ (40 cm and 50 c m) below the water inlet.

Po not empty~

ol completely. This operation could cause your liner t o move. lt would also

lighten your pool, which could be blown away in strong winds and cause maj or damage t o your

property or t hat of your neighbours. lt could also cause serious injury or even death.

STEP 4

Use a set of pool closure product s available from your ret ailer. Using this kit w ill considerably reduce the t ime and quantit y of chemicals required when you restart your pool each spring .

& WARNING

lt is advisable t o check the wat er level in the autumn aft er winterisation before th e wat er freezes. If the water level rises drastically, it is advisable to re-drain the wat er to bring it back down t o the recommended level.

22

& WARNING

Closing t he pool t oo lat e could allow t he wat er in the pipes, skimmer and wat er inlet to freeze and damage t he fi lt ration syst em components and the pool.

USING A WINTER COVER

When using a winterisat io n cover for pools, we recomme nd using a mesh-type pool cover specially desig ned for winterising above-ground pools. The mesh has a porous woven design that allows water to f low into the pool under t he cover whil e trapping leaves and debris .
Opaque or waterproof polyethylene, plastic or vinyl tarpaulins are not recommended . These tarpaulins are generally used for cam ping and prot ecting abjects from t he rain. These covers allow wat er, snow and ice t o accumulat e on t op, creating significant weight on t he pool st ructu re. This extra weight can cause t he uprights to pull o ut or the walls of t he pool and it s st ructu re to collapse.
To use a winter cover, we recommend that you ask your local pool specialist for information. As t here are several types of winter cover available, t he pool professional will be able t o advise you on how to install one.

WEIGHT FOR WINTER COVER
Sorne winter covers use a weight system to keep them in place during the cold season . lt is import ant t o use weights intended for this purpose as they are designed to protect t he pool wall. The use of improvised weight s for this purpose (plast ic gallons filled wit h water attached by a rope or anything else) is forbidden as t hey can be blown away during periods of high winds and damage t he pool wall .

IMPORTANT

Using a line r and attachment system other than those specifically designed for an above- ground poolcan cause considerable damage. Check with your dealer.

RECOMMENDATIONS AND MAINTENANCE DURING WINTER
1- Check that there is no obstruction in the water inlet orifice and that the water can drain away from the pool.

2- Check that water, snow and ice do not accumulate in the skimmer during the freezing period. lt is important to check regularly that these are free of build-up at all times. This could damage the skimmer and cause the pool wall to collapse w hen the thaw cornes.

3 – The pool is designed to support the vo lume of water contained in it , and therefore to wo rk horizontally. M ake sure you remove any snow that accumulates on the structure (the ledges).
Do not allow more than 12″ (30cm) of snow to accumul ate on the pool ledges at any givent ime.

4- Do not hit a pool containing f rozen water, as this will damage it.

5- Do not climb inside a fro zen poo l. This could cause the ice to shift and ru baga inst the liner, breaking it and seriously damaging the pool.

SPRING OPENING

W hen the outside temperature reaches 10°c (50°F) and the pool water has completely thawed, it’s t ime to restart you r pool’s filtration system .
STEP 1
Rem ove the w inter caver from the pool, remove any water that may have accumulated on the caver over the w inter and any other dirt and leaves.
STEP 2
Reposition your filtration syst em and reconnect the pipes linking it to the skimmer and the water inlet.
STEP 3
Fill the pool until the water level is in t he middle of the skimmer.
lnspect yourpoolfor visible corrosion or leaks. Pay particular attention to the areas around the sklmmerand the water lnlet. If necessary, correct the problem lmmedlately.
STEP 4
Clean the b ottom of the pool by vacuumin g up any leaves or dirt. Put the sand filter in the ” DRAIN” position t o remove the dirt from the pool without going through t he filter. This operation in “Drain” m ode w ill extend the time before you need t o “backwash” th e sand in your filte r.
Do not empty your pool completely t o c lean the water unless you have t o, as this could cause creases in your liner. If you absolutely must, do not leave t he pool empty for a long period. A lin er exposed to the sun could shrink and dry out. The structure could also move in st rong w inds, making it very dangerous.
STEP 5
Adjust the c hem ica l paramet ers of your pool wat er. Contact your pool professional for recommendations on adding c hemicals t o your pool water in spring .
Make sure that the skimmer and wat er inlet are not leaking. Such a leak could corrode the wall of t he pool and seriously damage its structure.
