Product Usage Instructions

Download & Register

  1. Download the Merkury Smart app from App Store or Google Play.
  2. Register an account on the app using your email address, verification code, and password.
  3. Log in to the app.

Prepare

  1. Plug In
    • Plug the device into the wall outlet. Ensure the indicator light is flashing.
    • Measure and prepare the area for attaching the LED strip on a clean, solid surface.
    • Measure the LED strip for the desired length, starting from the end closest to the Wi-Fi Controller.
  2. Cutting the LED Strip
    • Locate the closest cut mark to your desired length (cut markings every 10cm).
    • Cut carefully, ensuring you do not cut from the end with the Wi-Fi Controller connector.

FAQ

  1. Q: Can the LED strip be used outdoors?
    A: The LED strip is weather-resistant with an IP44 rating, protecting it from splashes in any direction. It is recommended not to immerse it in water.

  2. Q: How do I reset the device?
    A: Press the reset button for turning the device on/off. Press and hold the reset button to reset the device.

  3. Q: What Wi-Fi networks are compatible with the LED strip?
    A: The LED strip is compatible with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks. It does not support 5GHz networks.

  4. Q: How do I contact support for assistance?

What’s in the Box

  • Know your Wi-Fi network and password

  • Make sure your device is running the latest version or previous two versions of iOS and Android

  • Make sure you’re connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (Merkury Smart can’t connect to 5GHz networks)

INSTALLATION STEPS

STEP 1

  • Download the Merkury Smart app from App Store or Google Play.

  • Register an account on your App.

    1. Enter your email address.
    2. Enter the verification code and create a password.
    3. Log in to the App.

STEP 2
Plug In

  1. Plug the device into the wall.
    Make sure the indicator light on the device is flashing, indicating the device is ready to connect.
    *See reset instructions on p. 5

  2. Measure the area you wish to attach the LED strip to. Ensure that the area has a clean, solid surface.

  3. Measure the LED strip for the desired length, starting at the end closest to the connector for the Wi-Fi Controller.
    IMPORTANT: If you measure & cut from the opposite end, you will not be able to connect the LED strip to the Wi-Fi Controller.

  4. Located the closest cut mark to your desired length. Each strip has cut markings located every 10cm.
    Take a sharp pair of scissors or blade, and cut along the cut mark.

  5. LED Strip Adhesive Installation
    *Follow Instructions Carefully

Be sure to thoroughly clean surface or wall with any standard rubbing alcohol before applying adhesive and let dry.
Position LED strip upon surface and press every section firmly for at least 30 seconds ensuring a strong hold.

NOTE:
3M adhesive may not adhere well to vinyl surfaces nor to delicate wallpaper.

Installation Using Anchor Mounts
If you would like, you may utilize the included anchor mounts for an additional support. Each mount can be screwed into the wall with a standard Phillips-head screwdriver (not included). Place mounts ontop of LED light strip once it’s placed in desired location.

STEP 3

Set Up:
Auto-Discovery
Now your smart devices can be detected and connected quicker than ever.

  1. Make sure: Bluetooth is turned on Add device:

  2. Once you grant Merkury Smart access to Bluetooth, you’ll be notified when it discovers your devices. You can also select a category from the list to begin pairing.

  3. The Merkury Smart app will automatically detect your LED Strip using its wireless Bluetooth connection.

  4. Enter the password to your Wi-Fi network, then tap “Next Step” and the device will connect.

  5. The Merkury Smart app will attempt to connect to your device.
    NOTE: Merkury Smart can’t connect to 5GHz networks. *If you are unable to pair initially, reset your device and try pairing using the  alternative method provided in the app. Pairing Device

  6. The Merkury Smart app will attempt to connect. This may take a few moments.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I customize my dashboard?
    Select the “Edit” option on the top of “Home” page. Create additional pages on your dashboard by dragging tiles to the right and organize devices to fit how you use them.

  • How many devices can I control?
    Merkury Smart app can control an unlimited amount of devices in an unlimited amount of locations. Your router may have a limit of how many devices can be connected to one router.

  • How do I rename my device?
    From your main device list, click on the device you want to rename, then click “Device Settings”, then click on “Device Name”. Rename your device to a more familiar name like “Bedroom” or “Living Room” and then click Save.

  • The device appears offline or unreachable, what should I do?
    Make sure your Wi-Fi router is online and in range.
    Make sure you have the latest Merkury Smart functionality by clicking “Check for firmware update” in your device settings.

  • What’s the wireless range?
    The range of your home Wi-Fi is heavily dependent on your home router and the conditions of the room. Check with your router specifications for exact range data.

  • If my Wi-Fi/internet goes down, will my device still work?
    Merkury products need to be connected to Wi-Fi in order to use them remotely.

Troubleshooting

Cannot connect to your Wi-Fi network.

  • Make sure you entered the correct Wi-Fi password during the Wi-Fi setup. Check whether there are any Internet connection problems. If the Wi-Fi signal is too weak, reset your Wi-Fi router and try again.

Reboot the device

  • Reboot the LED strip by pressing & holding reset button for 3 seconds. The strip will blink. This is the equivalent of unplugging your device and plugging it back in.

Reset the device

  • Reset the LED strip by pressing & holding reset button for 5 seconds. The LEDs will flash and your device will be in pairing mode again.

  1. Choose a dry, clean surface for mounting.
    Note: Avoid the following surfaces:

  2. Wipe off dust from desired mounting surface with alcohol, and allow to dry.

  3. Warm up LED strip with hair dryer if the room’s temperature is 50°F or below (10°C).

  4. Strip off adhesive film.
    Note: Do not peel off tape under film.

  5. Stick LED strip to desired location and hold in place for 10-15 seconds to secure bond.

  6. For corner placement, bend the LED strip and reinforce with provided anchors.
    Note: Avoid bending on LED components.

  7. Reinforce LED strip with included anchor mounts (use screws provided).

  8. Installation Complete.

VOICE CONTROL GUIDE

Thank you for purchasing your Merkury Smart home product. Make sure your devices are already set up using the Merkury Smart app, then follow these steps.

Name and Control Each Device by Voice

To control your MERKURY smart products, just say “OK Google,“ or “Hey Google,“ and ask. Make sure your devices are already set up using the Merkury Smart app.

*Things you can say:**

  • Open the Google Home app and go to Home Control in the menu.

  • Tap the “+“ button.

  • Choose Merkury Smart from the list of Home Control partners.

  • Authorize your account with Google Assistant using the username and password from your Merkury Smart app.
    Now your Google Home app and Merkury devices are linked!
    You’re now able to say “Hey Google“ and control your Merkury devices.

  • At any time, go into the “Home Control“ section of the Google Home app to set nicknames and rooms for your devices. You can rename your devices in the Merkury Smart app, and Google Assistant will refer to them by the same name.
    So if you rename a smart bulb to “Living Room“ or a nickname like “Blossom,“ then Google Assistant will use that same name later on. You can always give it a nickname using the Google Home app as well. You can also assign bulbs to a specific room, like “Bedroom“ or “Kitchen.“
    Google Assistant will be able to control devices by room.

To control your MERKURY smart home products, just ask Alexa. Make sure your devices are already set up using the Merkury Smart app.

*Things you can say:**

*Some commands require compatible devices.

  • Open the Alexa app and go to Skills in the menu.

  • Search for Merkury Smart Outlet then tap Enable.

  • Authorize your account with Smart Home Skills using the username and password from your Merkury Smart app.

  • Choose “Discover Devices.“ After a few seconds your Merkury devices will be displayed  under Smart Home in the Alexa app.

  • You can rename your devices in the Merkury Smart app, and Alexa will refer to them by the same name.
    So if you rename a smart strip to “Living Room“ or a nickname like “Blossom,“ then Alexa will use that same name later on.
    Alternatively, you can create an Alexa group, like “Bedroom“ or “Downstairs,“ and add the device to the group.
    Alexa will recognize the group name in the Alexa app, or the device name in the Merkury Smart app.
