Installation instructions
Installation instructions for the Carplay interface
Harman Kardon
The interface is connected via a connecting cable with sockets. It is estimated that it takes about 30 minutes of work to connect the interface. No programming is required. There is enough space behind the display to install the interface. The interface uses the existing microphone.
Tools Needed
Torx screwdriver (20), auxiliary tools
- Step 1. Turn off the ignition By turning off the ignition, there is no more power on the radio and the cables can be safely disconnected and connected.
- Step 2. Remove the trim strip from the display (unclip) Using an auxiliary tool (spatula), carefully unclip the panel. To do this, start at the top right of the clip and work your way counterclockwise via the two push clips at the top to the top left of the screen. Then click out the two clips at the top of the display. Use the space created to now pop off the bottom four clips one by one. For the bottom two clips, protect the dashboard with tape or fabric to be able to apply some force without damaging anything.
After removal, check the air vents in the trim, they may have come loose with it. In that case, push them back into position.
Unscrew the torx screws of the control panel of the display and pull out the plug (check carefully how the connection cable is located because of the replacement later).
- Step 3. Remove the A/C unit Unclick the cover plate under the air conditioning panel (it is clicked into place in three places)
Pull off the air conditioning panel completely. This one is very tight, but it’s 6 clips, it’s not screwed.
-
Step 4. Remove the display (screws)
Unscrew the display if you want to place the interface behind the screen. (unplugging the video plug is not necessary) -
Step 5. Remove the radio (screws)
-
Remove the 2 screws and pull the radio forward. The radio does not have to be completely detached from the wiring
Step 6. Connect the black power strip (plugs)
Disconnect the black power strip from the multimedia unit by pressing the tab
of the plug, pressing the lever down slightly, and then pulling. The power
strip will then come out on its own Connect the original plug to the socket of
the interface. Push the black power strip back into the radio.
Step 7. Connect the video cable of the interface (plugs)
Pull the (purple) video plug on the back out of the radio and reconnect the
socket of the video cable. To do this, press the tab of the video plug and, if
necessary, use a thin flat object to pop the plug loose.
Connect the released video plug to the socket of the other video cable (this can only be done in 1 way).
Step 8. Assemble the Interface
Connect all plugs to the interface. Stick the antenna to plastic (not metal!).
Step 9. Assemble the USB Plugs (Conduct)
Route the USB plugs to an easily accessible/convenient location. For example,
at the location of the left knee of a fellow passenger.
Step 10. Test the system (operate)
8-inch display: long-press HOME button to switch
12.3-inch display: longpress track-toets (next song) om te switchen
Test the system on at least the following points:
- Graphical representation
- sound
- Switch between radio and interface (press the media button for a few seconds)
- Gear in reverse
- ring
For sound, the audio source must first be set to AUX.
Check the position of the dip switches in case something is not functioning properly. After changing a dip switch, the power must be drawn from the unit (power plug out/in).
Step 11. Rebuild the system (screws and clicks)
Screw on the radio and mount the front panel in reverse order. When assembling the front panel, make sure that there are no cables in the way at the pressure clips and at the edges.
Step 12. Connect the interface to your phone
Disconnect the Bluetooth connection from the JAGUAR. Connect to the Bluetooth of the Carplay interface (0000) and turn on Wifi and Carplay on your phone. The interface itself builds up a Wi-Fi connection via the Bluetooth connection. The system is basically ready.
