The device can be installed on a wall (fig. 3÷7 )

Make sure that the device is level to ensure proper functioning.
The ducts used for channeling must be the correct size. The ducts from and toward the outside must be thermally insulated and not subject to vibrations.
The exhaust and supply piping, with nominal diameter equal to 125 mm, must be fixed to the corresponding device points with clamps or other suitable fastening systems.
If air exhaust or inlet occurs from the roof, the use of a suitable device is required to prevent the formation of condensate and the entry of rainwater.

Condensation drain

During normal operation, condensate forms at the bottom of the device inside a double tray which has two drains toward the outside. The connection points are set at the rear bottom of the device. The condensate drain can be created by connecting two flexible hoses, with an internal diameter equal to approximately 16 mm, to the drains. Install both siphons (not supplied) to prevent the formation of air bubbles.

Important instructions:

Winter operation : highly probable formation of condensate; connection of drain piping with a siphon is mandatory (fig. 8 pos. A).
Summer operation: probable formation of condensate; connection of drain piping is recommended, with a siphon (fig. 8 pos. B).

Diagonally cut the tube termination.

Note : Set the siphon in compliance with the dimensions indicated in fig. 9; otherwise, regular operation of the appliance cannot be guaranteed.

The condensate drain can also be formed making use of the sewer system of the dwelling.

Use

When switched on LED 4 will flash to indicate the correct power supply of the product, during the first 3 minutes of operation, the appliance re-positions the bypass valve.
The engines then restart at the previously set speed.
Note : this system behavior is normal and should not be considered a fault.
The product is designed for continuous operation.

“Heat recovery” Function

This kind of function is normally activated, except when:

  • Automatic functions : “No-Frost”, “By-Pass” and “Post-ventilation” are active. Stale air ( fig. 2 B ) is expelled outside by means of an outside duct (fig. 2 D) while, at the same time, renewed air (fig. 2 C) is also extracted from the outside. This renewed air is heated by the combined action of the air/air heat exchange. The renewed air enters into the room by the Cleaned air duct ( fig. 2 A ).

“No-Frost” Function

  • The function is activable if 2 minutes are left after the appliance is turned on.
    The “No-Frost” function is automatically active when the appliance checks a too low External air temperature, for a certain time. When the function is active:

  • the message “No-Frost” appears on the display

  • User can not change ventilation Speeds;
    The main scope of the “No-Frost” function is to avoid appliance damage, because of too low temperatures. When the messages “Alarm!” and “Lock!” appear on the display: it represents a “no-frost timeout”. This means that the “No- Frost” procedure has proved insufficient and the appliance goes into a protected mode for one hour, with the motors off, following which it will restart automatically.
    NOTE: Restarting is automatic and don’ t need User presence.
    NOTE: For Passive House compliant systems it will be necessary to install a preheater on the duct that extracts fresh air from outside.

“By-Pass” Function

This type of operation is automatically set and it is useful to ventilate the apartment without heat transfer. With the bypass valve open, air can be extracted directly from inside (B), without passing through the heat exchanger. The flow of air vented to the inside (A) continues to pass through the heat exchanger, which will not be effective anymore.

“By-Pass air Temperature” represents the “Desidered air temperature”: according to this, the Appliance activates/deactivates the bypass valve. User can select the “By-Pass air Temperature” into a range of temperatures from 15°C to 30°C. The preset “By-Pass air Temperature” value is 18°C (default).

NOTE : The “By-Pass” automatic function is deactivated when:

  • External air temperature is less than 15°C;
  • The “No-Frost” function is active.

Example : Autumn case (sunny afternoon)
External air Temperature = 23°C;
Indoor air Temperature = 20°C;
Bypass air Temperature = 24°C.

Appliance extracts the External air (hot) without heat exchanging with the Indoor air (cold). In this way, thanks to environmental conditions, a “free heating” is provided.

Example : Spring case (morning)
External air Temperature = 16°C;
Indoor air Temperature = 20°C;
Bypass air Temperature = 18°C.

Appliance extracts the External air (cold) without heat exchanging with the Indoor air (hot). In this way, thanks to environmental conditions, a “free cooling” is provided.

“By-Pass” Valve check

A Valve check is performed:

  1. When the appliance is switched on both motors will reduce speed to allow repositioning of the by-pass valve. After, motors will start up again.
  2. After 24 h from the last By-Pass valve opening Appliance forces a By-pass activating to check the effective position of the valve:
    • if the valve is opened, force the opening;
    • if the valve is closed, force the closing.

This is a normal system procedure and should not be perceived as a malfunction.

NOTES:

  • Every time, during By-Pass opening and closing (max 180 sec), the Appliance automatically reduces fan-ventilator speeds to the 20%, in order to help the By-Pass valve movement.
  • In case of Temperature sensor anomalies, the By-Pass valve will stay preventively closed. When the function is active, the message “By-Pass” appears on the display: see “Home Page” in the “Operation” and use”.

“Post-ventilation” Function

Every time Pre-Heater is turned off (if Pre-Heater installed)| Both motor-fans active (about 3 minutes) to avoid overheating
---|---
Every time you turn the appliance off (OFF command: only via APP)| Indoor air is extracted at the max speed (about 2 minutes) to avoid condensate presence on the heat exchanger

This kind of function is automatically activated after:

This is a normal system procedure and should not be perceived as a malfunction.

“Holiday” Function

A special mode of operation: manually enabled and useful if the user leaves the room for a period of time longer than a day. Operation (indicated by active LED 1) includes:

  • fixed “30% less of Minimum ” speed (no other speeds, no OFF equipment);
  • environment sensors not enabled (remote inputs not activated);
  • bypass is always closed.

When the mode is active, the message “Holiday” appears on the display: see “Home Page” in the “Panel functions”.

NOTE : Activating the Mode “Holiday” will deactivate other product functions/selections.

To re-activate other product functions/selections, need to deactivate the Mode “Holiday” before.

“Post-heater” function

  • If the temperature of the supply air (T Sup) is inferior to the postheater threshold temperature decreased by 0,5°C (hysteresis) and postheater is activated, then the post-heater switches on.
  • If the temperature of the supply air (T Sup) is greater than the postheater threshold temperature increased by 0.5 ° C (hysteresis), the postheater switches off.
  • If the unit is in HOLIDAY mode or in summer bypass mode or if the postheater is disabled from the installer menu, the postheater must never switch on.
  • If you select OFF while the postheater is operating, the postheater switches off first and the supply motor continues to run for 2 minutes at boost speed.

  • The user selects a program or activates manual operation via APP, HMI or panel on the machine.
  • Upon reappearance of the conditions described in the section “Automatic outdoor temperature control” (see below) in the case of the automatic shut-down of the recovery unit.

Automatic functions

Operation with external sensor

An indoor air quality (IAQ) sensor can be associated with the system.

  1. The CO2 value is checked every 15 minutes starting at midnight.
  2. When the CO2 threshold of 1000ppm is exceeded, the heat recovery unit runs at maximum speed.
  3. If the situation is not resolved after 30 minutes, the system resets the “AUTO” program for two hours, after which the CO2 check is repeated.
    Note: To configure the sensor, go to the “Services” tab on the APP, select the sensor to be connected and follow the procedure indicated.

Automatic outdoor temperature control

The system can detect the outdoor temperature when an external Weather Station is installed. The temperature is checked every two hours, starting at midnight (UTC time).

Two action thresholds are set depending on the temperatures detected:

  • Very low temperatures: The device switches off if the temperature outside is equal to or lower than -15°C. The device resumes operation when the outside temperature is equal to or higher than -7°C.
  • Very hot temperatures: The device switches off if the temperature outside is equal to or higher than 42°C. The device resumes operation when the temperature is equal to or lower than 37°C.Triggering of the atmospheric monitoring service (only when the “Away” program is selected)
    When available, the atmospheric monitoring service modifies the standard operation of the “Away” program according to the pollution level of the outdoor environment.

Operation

If the heat recovery unit is running with the “Away” program selected, the pollutants detected by the atmospheric monitoring service are checked every 15 minutes, starting at midnight (UTC time).
The scale of values of the monitoring service expresses the air quality in percentage: the higher it is, the better the air is.

Two cases can occur:

  1. If the air quality is good, the operation is identical to the “Away” program.
  2. If the air quality of the outside environment is polluted, the following conditions occur:
    • The recovery unit switches off for 60 minutes.
    • The recovery unit works as in the “Away” program for 60 minutes.
    • The cycle is repeated for six hours, after which the system contacts the atmospheric monitoring service again.

“OFFLINE” – network disconnection

VORTICE-VORT-HR-300-NETI-IoT-Wall-Heat-Recuperator-fig-
\(27\)

The heat recovery unit goes into “OFFLINE” mode when there is an interruption of the Wi-Fi network or power supply.

Wi-Fi connection interruption:

When the Wi-Fi network is interrupted, after 5 to 15 minutes after pressing a button, the App screen is grey-shaded (see figure below) and an exclamation point (!) Appears next to “H”.

Note : if you do not press a button on the App, the screen will be shaded after one hour.

Power failure:

The grey shaded screen and the exclamation point (‘!’) next to the recuperator symbol (‘H’) appear after about an hour (see figure alongside).

Automatic firmware update (OTA – Over The Air)

If a new firmware version is released, the products are automatically updated.

Note : If for any reason the Wi-Fi network is lost, the heat recovery unit continues to operate and can be controlled from the HMI display (if installed)) or from the control panel on the machine.

Manual operation

VORTICE-VORT-HR-300-NETI-IoT-Wall-Heat-Recuperator-fig-
